The Land of the Rising Sun

I just woke up to some EXCELLENT news (tm) from GW.

https://twitter.com/warhammerNMB/status/1478954858665635841/photo/2

According to the tweet linked above "some" new releases will be delayed in the Japanese market for an undisclosed amount of time. Being GW the information provided about who long the "minor" changes will be, or how many days/weeks the releases will be behind the rest of the world is between 0 and none. But at least GW Japan bothered to put up a message informing us about the delays.

I find funny that GW takes the Japanese market for granted. Currently along Australia, and New Zealand we have the highest prices due to a just because surcharge, and now we are going to be the last getting new releases because reasons.

M.

Edit: GW is not wrong, it's really hard to get JP players to expand to other games.

Jenkins: You don't have jurisdiction here!
Smith Jamison: We aren't here, which means when we open up on you and shred your bodies with automatic fire then this will never have happened.

I wonder if these reasons will effect Taiwan as well. We don't have an official GW presence here, so IDK how that will impact things.

Didn't this already happen some times over the last few years?

Playing mostly Necromunda and Battletech, Malifaux is awesome too!

As far as I know releases were always at the same time than the rest of the world. The number of boxes in Japanese might have been limited at times.

We had delays before.

Interesting to see how they will handle this.

Prices here are pretty high already,
FW conversion rate alone is a reason not to buy
stuff in Japan...

Being a gw fan who lives in Japan kind of sucks.
Currently the most expensive place in the world for gw products and it's only going to get worse. We have basically no inflation here so every time gw increases prices it hurts us more.
In addition gaming stores in Japan never seem to do discounts.
The delays are just a delightful cherry on the cake.

Wow, they actually put out some press stuff in Japanese. I mean, it's just the store in Namba, Osaka saying it, but still, that's maybe the most generous thing I've ever seen GW do for Japanese fans.

The bar is just that low.

Small Japanese houses and apartments are not 3d printer friendly.

Do you have any very kind friends or family who can box stuff up and send it out? Then that can go as an 'aid parcel' (I don't know how Japan is for customs controls and if you are likely to get taxed?)

I used to live in Korea and GW brought in its 'RoW sales ban', think that was around 2010. Up until that point I had bought from Wayland Games etc and just had it shipped out.
But, that stopped that, and GW seemingly hadn't given any thought to countries which don't have actual stores to buy from (Korea had a couple at the time that were a day's travel away). Think I started playing Infinity as a result lol.

It's been very mixed since the end of last year. Certain releases (like the AoS Maggotkin Battletome) have been fine but I believe since the Necromunda Outcast gang released there has been an increasing number of products that never made it here.

We're (at least I am) still waiting for the Outcast gang box to drop here

Yeah that's what I've been doing. My sister is into Warhammer stuff and she's been ordering on element and shipping it out to me which is still much cheaper than ordering direct even with tax.
The mind boggling thing is that Japanese direct orders still get shipped from the UK, but as you said we can't just pay UK prices plus shipping.

That would mess up with the Japanese prices. Nobody would buy local.

You guys should honestly see if one of the Taiwanese game shops will sell and ship out to you. So far as I can tell i think our prices line up with US ones, though I've never really checked. (I don't regularly buy stuff. Mostly just fantasy things that catch my eye for time to time.)

As Taiwan both is, and is not a country depending on who you talk to, and when you're talking about it, we might slip through the radar sometimes.

I don't imagine 40k is particularly popular in Japan, so GW can decide one day to decide it's more hassle than it's worth, I suspect.

complaining about shipping delays seems kinda silly all considered.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

One would think that after the head of GW Japan explained us that GW had to add a surcharge to JP prices because the need to ship things in a prompt manner to Japan was very expensive and GW couldn't keep shouldering that cost that means that we can complain when GW is delaying shipping to us when other countries are not having issues.

I don't know what the situation in Japanese ports is but I can't imagine it's better than in US ports. So my guess is customs/port delays.

I was going to say the same thing! If only 40k and WHF had gone to the intuitive and easy to follow Triangle/Circle/Hexagon/Square system!
