So what do we think about the three new starter games coming out?

Does this mean we finally get Blitz Bowl in the UK?

Got to say the boards on these things look paper thin… bit like the old boxed games from way back like Ultramarines whic had thin versions of Space Hulk boards…

Warhammer Quest: Lost Relics is very interesting. Bit short on the models, mind, especially when they could have thrown in the Eyes of the Nine Magister's sprue...

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.

I would like to buy and try blitzbowl, I do not understand why they don't sell it in the UK for some reason.

Suspiciously the article does not confirm where, when or how it will be released.

I have the first 2 Blitz Bowl games, wonder if Ultimate Edition has anything that would make it worth picking up as well. I only picked up 2nd ed because it had cards for all the blood bowl plastic teams to use in Blitz Bowl.

I was really pleased with both Fireteam and especially with Bladeborn for the same reason: both games came with cards for the 2 factions in-box of course, but they also came with additional stat cards for 4 additional factions.

Clash of Champions is another Gorechosen clone, safe to assume it comes with stat cards for a few additional heroes

Lost Relics looks the most interesting, appears to be a Warhammer Quest lite, has skaven and tzeench enemy cards out. I'm always a sucker for dungeoncrawlers

Clash of Champions had me excited until I saw it's the same buddy duo as the Warhammer Imperium magazine. I wonder if that's intentional.
Is the terminator one of the guys they put in the Rise of the Orks game?

The terminator looks like the one out of space marines heros season 2 and the death guard looks like he is from season 3

Clash of Champions looks like it includes the Bladeguard Lieutenant and Necron Royal Warden (conveniently they are on the same sprue in the Recruit Edition starter), as well as one of the Plague Marine and one of the Terminator Space Marine Heroes. Not sure it would be worth it for the minis alone. Lost Relics looks kind of interesting; unless I'm mistaken the models in that are one of the SCE Underworlds teams, right? Blitz Bowl is a game I've been tempted by, but never pulled the trigger on despite seeing it at my local Barnes & Noble. I've always figured that if I was going to do that I might as well just get proper Blood Bowl stuff, as at least there's a community for that locally.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Slightly annoyingly when someone asked if these were available in the UK, the Warhammer TV Facebook guys said "If we hear of them doing so, we'll let you know via the Warhammer Community site - thanks!" So that's a bloody no again then!

Apparently the UK people don't appreciate quicker smaller board/boxed games we can try and reschedule new hobbyists with/enjoy with our family. Seems dumb not to sell their own first party product in their own stores.

I don't know if it will be the case with this batch of games, but last year's Bladeborn board was thicker than the Killteam Octarius board, same with Blitzbowl Season 1 at least. I'm gutted it looks like these won't be available in the UK as they're the only GW games I actually play. Love the size and scope.

It's unfortunate these aren't available wider, I've had more fun with these than with Warhammer proper in recent years, as they're awesome to play with regular boardgamers that normally wouldn't be into miniatures gaming and also my old miniature buddies that rarely have time for full games anymore.

Combat Arena just looks like Gorechosen but 40k....which is fine. Warhammer Quest one is the one I'm most interested in and the Blitz Bowl new season looks good too. Which is good since Barnes and Noble is sold out of Season 1 and 2.

This reminds me I need to pick up Rise of the Orks...

When I didn't see mention in the article about regional limitations I had hoped GW had finally learned and let the rest of the world have fun, too. Shame if that isn't true.

The simple boxed games can be really hit or miss, but I'm a sucker for Co-op quest games so I'm going to at least consider Lost Relics.

So true. Its a shame a WHQ set comes along and we can't get it in the UK.

They're definitely from the heroes line and I'm glad GW is getting more use out of those.
Rise of the Orks used five of the Series 2 models (and was a great way to get the heavy flamer that was missing from the non-Japanese release and the stormbolter/servoskull that was missing from the Japanese release) including one with thunder hammer, so I pulled out one of my boxes to check and see if it was the same Terminator and nope, that was the sergeant. Clash of Champions will be coming with the other thunder hammer terminator (also missing from the Japanese release), which has a somewhat unique body with Y-shaped tubing in the front.
Makes it significantly more tempting. Enough that I would consider it if B&N had another of their BOGO board game sales, but not so much that I would try to pick up multiple copies just for the minis. Still, they're usually decent games and it's not hard to put some standees or meeples in there and give away extra copies to board gaming obsessed friends after looting those pesky miniatures they don't want to deal with anyway.

Anybody recognize the 4th hero from Lost Relics? There's the 3+bird from the new Underworlds box set, and then one additional that looks like an Evocator, but I don't recognize the exact model

Well, it's not like you can't get similarly themed light boardgames from other companies, less expensive (some free).

Still, gateway games to sucker -- er, attract -- new blood into the hobby is always a good thing. Hope the "model and paints" introductory sets were successful.

I bought the first two Blitz Bowls and live them. Will likely buy this one, as it will at least add another board and likely rules for some of the newer BB teams.

I agree that the arena game looks very like Gorechosen, rules-wise. Which is a shame from my perspective... played a fair bit of Gorechosen and it's a bit too clunky to be the kind of dynamic fast-paced thrills and spills game it was clearly intended to be! I am probably gonna keep hold of it but I don't need a 40K re-skin.

The games in this line were sold at Barnes & Noble originally. That was what made them a limited item. B&N quite likely literally paid for this stuff to be made, so they could get exclusivity for a period of time.

Sucks, but hey, a lot of fans here in the US regularly get screwed by Warhammer World and GW store exclusive releases that people in Europe can much more easily obtain. We have to resort to insane aftermarket prices on this stuff, if you can find it at all. The closest GW store to me is over two hours away, for example. So it’s the internet, or go without. Mostly, I choose to go without. This time, we got something.

Fortunately, work took this Brit to the US in late 2019.

I availed myself of a Barnes and Noble retail therapy session especially copies of the original Combat Arena with the Blackstone Fortress models. The Death Star game with the retro style Tarkin model was nice as well.
