Why would they remove the legend of all the units/guns in the back of the book?

The guns are still there, but I am now flipping through the book for every unit when it is getting shot/shooting. Feels terrible!

Do they really think I want to flip through the data-sheets looking every time? Ugh!

They got rid of the summary pages in 8th. I don't know why. Codexes are horrid to navigate now.

Do these data-card sets from GW come with unit statlines?

Can I pick out the units I am using and set the on the table for quick reference?

It kind of sounds like these data-card sets only have extraneous rules for the codex, not the actual units.

The data cards are also have a limited lifespan, due to GW tweaking throughout the year.

No. They contain Strats and Psychic Powers. Older sets used to also contain random objectives and things like Power from Pain for Dark Eldar, but those were deemed much too fun and useful.

so the only way to easily access statlines is... there's not really one?

I have to flip through the book and look up each unit or have it memorized? Or I guess have it digitally or something?

I used a Magic card editor to create unit cards for quick stat access.

Because when people look at the six-page summary table of ranged weapons in the Space Marine book it becomes increasingly difficult to claim that the game is "simpler" or "more streamlined".

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.
