The GW version of the Spartan Tank looks identical to the original FW version. What you guys think? Pictures of it just dropped today.

Look as good as the resin one.

Is made out of plastic so it will be much less trouble to assemble.

Rules are terrible for it (i would even consider it one of the worst datasheet in 9th)

Still gonna get one and play it because big tank makes my pp hard

I mean, it's not really for 40k. Take your 25-model transport capacity, assault ramp, 14/14/14 armor with 5HP, flare shield, and four twin-linked las shots to 30k and blow stuff up with it where it's good.

How much you wanna bet it'll take at least another edition before the FW version gets T9, like the plastic version is rumored to be getting.

This is what I thought too- 30k rules only...

But someone on B&C informed me that there are 9th ed rules for it in the GW Compendium. This datasheet has allowed that compendium to reach critical mass for me- there are now enough units in it that I might actually play that I'm thinking about getting the book.

Trouble is that there's too much else to buy- Ash Wastes is going to drop soon; I have very little Necromunda stuff so far, and I'm going to want some of the existing stuff to go along with Ash Wastes- I need both Escher kits and the Redemptionists at least, plus the books to run them. AND I still need to get a few more of the DE that are up for rotation.

So likely, the compendium and the tank are going to have to wait.

You got a source for that rumour? Because that would be pretty weird, considering that Spartans were the only Legion Super Heavys that were not T9 in the 8th edition Indexes. So all of the others get knocked down to T8 and Spartans get bumped to T9? I doubt it..

I'm in the opposite end. I bought a tonne of Necromunda and had banked stuff for 30k(cuz they're the only non-primaris I like+RTB-01). But I am needing to make choices regarding Necromunda. I just need a couple vehicles and should be good. But the actual box might be tempting enuff with discounts.

I’m just gonna wait for the FW Compendium Errata to add the extra twin lascannon, scratch build one for my scratch built Spartan, and not care if it’s competitive because Ten Lascannons.

It was hilarious in 8th Indexhammer next to Azrael getting a 4++

The resin Spartan started off at £100 but went up to (IIRC) £127.50 with the last price increase.
Now with the lack of solid blocks of resin and the fact that plastic kits are always cheaper than their resin counterparts, the price should sit between £70-80. More than a Land Raider (£52.50) or Repulsor Executioner (£65) and less than the Baneblade chassis tanks (£90).

I can see GW don't going under the 127.50£

At the time when GW brought the Valkyrie and Hydras over for Imperial Guard, they did not get cheaper iirc.

GW prices are neither rational nor with buisness sense behind them already

But i will be pleasantly surprised if this thing is a slightly more expensive land raider, if only to put some spikes on it.

There was also that time when metal became too expensive to continue using so they switched to a cheaper resin material and somehow all the prices went up.

FineCost, I think it was called.

From what I just found the FW Valkyrie was £85, the Shadowsword and Baneblade £150, and the Hydra/Manticore £39 for the full kit.
GW prices are currently £52.50, £90, and £36/35 respectively.
Even ignoring those the various HH armour kits are cheaper, include weapons, and have double the models.

Not sure how I feel about paying Baneblade pricing for it (and you know GW will charge the maximum price for this they can get away with). I do not have a 30k army as of now so it doesnt do anything for me

This is great for the HH players however

It was £100 prior to the price increases so the Baneblade price range was always there.

I could be remembering wrong but in my old budgeting estimates I considered the prices equal. Maybe I was saving money and didn't know it

The Hydra and Manticore kits were more upgrades to the base Chimera chassis and honestly, the price isn't massively different but that will be down to lack of real change i.e. full resin kit to plastic compared to resin upgrade to plastic.
The Valkyrie and Superheavies were full resin kits changed to full plastic ones which is why the prices are quite different.

A lot of 30k things have 40k rules, or at least the SM motor pool does, they're just all terrible because of resin tax.

Yeah, I don't doubt that.

I'm not sure I will be able to field a Spartan- the only SM I play are Deathwatch. (Well... and GK, but GW doesn't treat them the same way they treat other SM)

What I like about the vehicle is that in story terms, it's a mobile fortress. It's big enough to carry my entire 25PL DW Crusade... Or it would be if 5 of the models weren't Primaris lol.

If you look at the KT rules, every KT has a Base Of Operations; you can get upgrades to the base of operations over time.

Typically, a Base Of Operations is an abstract concept and they aren't usually represented by models... But they certainly could be.

This is what I'm interested in exploring with a Spartan.

You can indeed use a Spartan with the Deathwatch.
