For tonight I thought I would share these upcoming figures from Spelljammer (D&D in space, with sailing space ships).

These are renders, according to preorders these are painted.

There are ship scale and mini scale figures.

That Dreadnought was a MSRP of over $250 because wizkids has lost their goddamn mind and decided to just go whale milking on toob figures lol.

That said, I will own that admiral flumph.

I know!

Pirate Flumph just sells the whole set to me!

Some of the boat sets are also appealing.

I thought the $250 price might have been some special Egypt price, sad to see it's real.

Everyone thought Minsc was crazy, but it turns out he was just a wargamer from the future. He didn't have a miniature giant space hamster, he had a miniature of a giant space hamster!

Giff and Neogi for me please.

Haven't seen the books in decades but those names and designs have stuck with me since.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Spelljammer is definitely one of the most, if not THE most, underrated settings in D&D.

Especially considering the deeper lore of the Phlogiston. There is a lot to unpack and explore. Its almost as if spelljammer brings fantasy to an already fantasy setting.

I urge others who arent aware of how
Spelljammer ideas function, to explore the concept of the spheres more closely.

That said, space clowns can just go die in a fire. Flapjack is awesome. Prepainted is an interest killer.

$250 for what? Spelljammer is really neat and some of those are pretty interesting, but that kind of price is a hard Nah.

It looks like the 28mm boxes will be $20 blind packed, which is not bad for what looks like 3 humanish pre paints and one biggie.

What about the ships?

I haven't seen anything the ships will be in a separate set, though I hope they do that.

Hard to tell scale, but being Wizkids I imagine the size will be around the size of the Star Trek ships, on 28mm bases, and certainly not any bigger than a "Large" creature base.

I'd expect to see one of the ships - probably a nautaloid or maybe a hammerhead (though I'd prefer a Tradesman...er, I mean "Flying Fish" :eyeroll as a huge model if the line sells well.

Ships are $63 for packs of 4-6 (also prepaints).

Not sure of size.

https://www.dndmini.com/collections/spelljammer-adventures-in-space

Of course one of those packs includes 2 asteroids so I dunno if you want to count that as a real model

That Astral Dreadnaught is an absolutely enormous chunk of plastic.

It would be fun to terrorise my players with. Still not buying it though.

Ergh, that comes out to about $15-$20 per ship (I'm not counting the Asteroids, everybody else with sense would do cardboard chits for those). Don't really feel like that's worth it, that's X-Wing painted mini cost with visibly poorer detail and paint.

Maybe they'll make them available unpainted in singles 6-8 months down the road?

So, they don’t plan to sell them, then.

They do. They know their audience. Its why they're mashing the nostalgia button so hard before really talking about the setting changes...

(Someone up thread mentioned the Phologiston, for example, but oops, no, that's gone now. You'll be sailing the Astral Sea, because it fits the current cosmology. Crystal Spheres are gone, too)

To me, $15-$20 per ship is a big ask for nostalgia. Especially for the anticipated quality.

I guess I’ll wait for the hand of miniature market to move again.

Good luck. Wizkids is high on their own supply lately. $50 for 7 kobolds! They doubled/tripled the price of their larger unpainted figs!. They used to offer decent value larger unpainted figures at least, but have decided to charge GW rates for Bones quality.

Hopefully someone sees a market for a 3d print of the astral devourer, since Wizkids is unlikely to release an unpainted one for a reasonable amount. I've wanted one since the original Manual of the Planes.

No Nautaloid?

Heresy!

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

I thought all those multipart kits are HIPS and not PVC? Which $7 a figure (which includes licensing) isn't horrible.

You are correct. The kobolds are part of the Frameworks line which is multipart, customizable figs*. The arguing over the price was already done so not rehashing it here but yes they are a different line than the prepainted monopose.

*They kept getting delayed and some places just recieved them recently and others still haven't gotten any. I got the half-orc barbarian to take a look at and he just arrived today.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

These are goblin sized figures, fought in hordes. GW charges less for more. Frameworks are super overpriced for what they are, particularly given that unlike a Warhammer army you aren't going to be using the same figures over and over.

My main—only, really—interest is in the spaceships. I’d happily buy specific ships for the right price point, but very few of them are worth $15-$20. And I have to buy them in a blind box set? That’s gross.

FWIW, it looks like the 28mm monsters and characters are in blind boxes while ships are in specific $60 sets.

And we'll see what the secondary market brings.

Really?

Ugh... The phlogiston and spheres were some of the distinctive elements of the setting.

I won't really miss them either and the few times I did play in the setting back in 2e we pretty much ignored most of those concepts. Interesting ideas but felt really poorly implemented. Though it has been 25 years so maybe older me would appreciate it more.
