That sucks you couldn't make it. How did the Unreal Tournament go?

The tournament at HS today was good fun. In addition to facing an IG mech list, I got to play against two armies I haven't faced before: new Necrons, and Grey Knights. Learned a lot: especially how difficult it is to down a Necron Overlord on a flying AV13 chair; also how difficult it is to scrape even a few KP out of Grey Knights!

Everyone was great, and other than starting late and running over time (not unusual issues with tournaments) the organization was good.

Thanks to all of you who were there: it was great to meet you!

ugh.. so at this point i'm sick at both ends, so i doubt i'll be able to come game today. I'm popping some gravol and heading back to bed, let this be a leason to everyone, don't let your gf make you seafood pasta for dinner if she's not sure what she's doing... :(

Welcome back, i'm free tuesday/wednesday. So either day or both is fine with me, i'm probaby going to spend monday teaching my gf how to cook seafood so i don't have another sunday like this one.

I would love to get a game in tomorrow, but I believe Legends is closed. Want to try Heroes World in Markham, or maybe Friendly Troll in North York.

No idea on the parking, usually in that area you either park on the street or a side street, but as I have never been to FT I couldnt say for sure.

I don't think FT is open. I tried calling them just now and they're not picking up, also DEE was there at around 12, and the doors were closed...

I know they are open tonight, I just don't know what time.

I will never go to the Friendly Troll again. JonST and I were there and it never opened. I called the store at 1:30 p.m. and still noone had answered. Spender called the store at 2:00 p.m. and they still were not open. I called and spoke with the guy at the store at 4:45 p.m. and he informed me that despite supposed to be open at certain times, they don't list business hours because he has not established set hours with his employees. He actually told me that they are all students, so sometimes they just don't show up to open the store, or they just say they were sick. So the later you arrive, the better the chance of the store being open. Can you believe the business model this guy is working with??? Ridiculous. I will never waste my time again going there to 'maybe' have an employee show up.

JonST and I had a super close battle at Heroes World (Hwy 7 and Warden). The store had a good selection of items, games, models, etc., as well as plenty of terrain. However, the gaming area was a bit tight, and the tables were very low. Further, the terrain was not as nice as the stuff at Legends.

So, my review is that Legends is still much better for gaming, especially given the table heights, the nice terrain at Legends and the fact that the Legend's tables are ALL 6 x 4 feet. The tables at Heroes were not 6 x 4 feet, though they did have one tabletop of that size that fit over top of a smaller table.

RYTHEM: I didn't hear back from you yet, and I just got a call from my dentist that he may have a cancellation for tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. (I really need to see him regarding a crown).... so I told them to call me as soon as they confirm. They close at 8:30 p.m. tonight, so I will definitely know by then. As soon as they call, I will let you know if I can still do 11 a.m. tomorrow, or if I have to start a bit later. hey dark, ya just got home, i'm still good to go tomorrow but if you want to do the dentist appointment i don't mind, we can switch it to wednesday. Either way i'm free for some gaming, though i'd rather start at 11 and get 2 games in then later on and only get 1. I'll check the forums again before 10:30am tomorrow morning, which is when i usually leave, to see if anything has changed.

That's a shame, I like them because they are close to me and I've only ever gone at night (they tend to stay open past what normal stores do, usually about 10 pm) and on the weekend (They are open at 12 pm). It's not bad so maybe you could find it in your heart to give it another chance, if only to get a game in with me

I brought one of my regular gaming buddies to the tournament and he came in 2nd place! Not bad for his first tournament ever (he must have learned a thing or two taking lumps from me over the years )

I'm hoping to make it up to Legends for Sunday. I have a big assignment due the following week so I'm not 100% yet, it all comes down to how much work we get done this week, but I will let you guys know.

Is anyone planning on hitting up HS this weekend, or just legends?

Hey, I am interested in the tournies that HS hosts. What is the turn out like number wise? How many games do you get in? Is the atmosphere uber competitive?

I have never played in a tourny and me and a buddy would like to check out the next one in April. Any advise or comments?

I live in whitby so would have to make the trip down just want to know if it's worth it and what the details are like.

It's 1500 points, $20.00 entry fee and you need to be WYSIWYG, no painting required.

Usually there's around 8 players, most I've seen personally is 10.

It's not terribly competitive, that being said expect some great players and solid army lists. But over all it's pretty relaxed and friendly.

So long as you know the rules for your army and have a good understanding of the rules in the BRB you'll be fine.

I've heard that it has failed to materialize a few times, but in that case you can always get a few games in instead. Just keep your eye on this thread as it closes to tourney time and you'll see people say if they are going etc (there's also a bunch of people who show up that are not on Dakka).
