Not a bad issue, I thought. I went back to my 2012-2013 WDs to compared, those were during their "WD overhaul period" and not thought much of back then but on hindsight they were pretty meaty and had a fair bit of content. This latest issue seemed pretty much on par with those.

One trick they missed was not going back to the old WDxxx numbering scheme, that would have been a nice nod towards returning to the past, but eh :-)

The supply does not get to make the demands.

Page 10, number 2 in "Five things we love in... September". Was kind of weird how they mentioned that there.

Same I had to contact customer services who said they would send a new one. They said to give it a week.

It's a screw up at the postal service. Check their facebook page.

Yeah, I think you had to subscribe before the 14th. I subscribed afterwards and I'm not expecting one in the post. I bought my September issue in a shop.

Where did you hear that? I put in a subscription on Aug 25th and the webstore's description distinctly said that the first issue would be sent on Sept 2nd. The description has changed since then to be more ambiguous.

(Note: Haven't received my copy yet, but due to a recent hurricane and Monday being a holiday, we haven't had mail for the past four days)

So I sent GW a E-mail yesterday about my subscription and they called( ) me back about it today. Seems that some one forgot to put the cut off date for this months issue on the web page for the subscription, so mine starts from next month. The GW guy asked if I wanted this months as they were trying to source more copies for people who were in the same situation. Fortunately I'd picked one up from a local Tesco over the weekend.

That is going to seriously piss me off. If they had a cut-off date, it should have been mentioned up front.

Yeah, so nothing for Auckland subscribers anytime soon it seems. NZ subscribers shipments have been 'lost' according to GW Customer Service, so who knows when we'll see them.

Credit to GW though - once I rang them they have ordered a replacement copy for me. Two weeks delivery timeframe, so maybe October for my White Dwarf fix...

I follow a few GW staffers on Twitter and have seen mention that the cut off date was the 15th of August to get the first issue.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Picked up a copy yesterday, initial thoughts were that it's a decent issue - better than the 12-18 months prior to it going weekly, still a long way off what I consider it's mid 90's golden age.

Feels odd reading WD and there not being an article penned by Jervis, is he still with GW?

Overall I think it's good, definite step in the right direction and it should get better - the hopeful rise of Specialist Games should help as it'll give them more potential topics to cover.

K, well, I E-mailed GW about my missing copy. GW's customer service has always been above excellent, so I expect a good result here.

That's my feeling on it as well.

The good stuff:
- Free mini! Not sure what I'll do with him, but appreciated none the less
- Board game expansions! This is good. Really good. Having a Space Hulk mission in there really surprised me. This seemed like an attempt to widen the target readership of the magazine
- I did like the Temporal Distort section

The not so good stuff:
- Very, very busy layout. Pictures and stuff all over the place
- The battle report format I really didn't like, though to be fair it has been a really long time since I bought one
- The kill team showcase had so much promise and should have gone into more detail on the new expansion
- They should have continued the numbering scheme from previous monthly white dwarf's
- No Forgeworld coverage. Not even a little bit...

Nice start, for sure, but still a long way to go. I'll buy the first few editions and see how things go. But, at the moment, it's not worth shelling out for a subscription.

Yeah, that is a bit strange. Maybe we'll see some stuff next issue. Overall, I really like the magazine, though. Can't wait for the next one!

Also/and/but, I never received my subscription copy either (grabbed one at the store -- free mini anyways, so what the heck ). I will wait a bit longer before contacting GW.

Indeed, even a few shots of the recently previewed Blood Bowl minis would have been welcomed or a few nice photos of the Mastodon. But, alas...

I can't remember exactly where I read it to be honest. May have even been on the warhammer app. Could well be different in the states though. Hope things are ok there after the big storm have you tried emailing them to see if you are getting one? Might be worth sourcing another if you really want one.

Broadly agree with that assessment, seems pretty fair. I think it was a pretty decent start, given the size of the mag and sheer amount of content id probably give it 3.5 out of 5. I'd have liked to have seen a bit more Black Library stuff, and like you say more forgeworld, but I guess that will come. I do think they could do with finding more balance. For example the big battle report was AoS maybe they should have squeezed in a little Kill Team one for the 40k fans? It was great to see the board games getting all that support, but they could have spread that over a couple of months to allow for that kind of balance between fantasy and 40k. Like you say the layout was a bit busy at times wasn't it, but it wasn't unreadable, and I'm glad we weren't overwhelmed with adverts.

I agree they totally should have gone back to the old numbering, but I tell you what, I'm so glad that for once a magazine that's on sale in September is actually the September issue. I used to subscribe to SFX magazine, and it used to really niggle me that the month of the magazine was always at least two months out, so it'd be September and I'd have Novemebrs issue utterly ridiculous. It didn't matter in the scheme of things, but it was utterly barmy.

I'm going to stick with the sub, mainly because it's fairly cheap and I like having a magazine to read on the loo now and then. The painting stuff is always handy, and I'm going to like building up a nice collection....though I suppose I'm going to have to put up a shelf now.

Even if the magazine is decent, they managed to screw up everything else. Sounds like most subscribers aren't getting it until well after it has appeared in stores, which is ridiculous. And ridiculous that they implied it was the fault of the post office, which I'm sure is not true. They still don't have the digital version ready, well after everyone that wanted the magazine already subscribed to the print version. They just didn't get anything right.

I think that's a bit of a leap. The only ones you're hearing from are the ones that didn't get it. I'm sure there are plenty that got it early (like me), there's just no point posting about it on a forum

Have you anything to back up this wild claim?

Like Vorian said, that's a bit of a leap. Sure we've had a couple of anecdotal stories about people not getting a copy, some of whom may or may not have signed up after the cut off time I might add. We've also had dozens of posts from people who DID get their copy, some of whom got it well over a week in advance.

They should have got the digital edition ready to roll weeks ago, that's pretty inexcusable. But to say they got everything wrong with this release is simply unfair.

I haven't gotten my issue yet and bought my sub on July 22nd, so well before the cut offf. When I got my first White Dwarf sub those many moons ago the mag regularly came a week or more after the mag was in the stores, then they sorted it and it arrived on or before the actual store release date. It was mildly annoying to have to wait to get mine, but worse things in life to worry about than that.

Not going to berate them for a complete screwup just because my mag is late. Kind of a silly extreme to take it to. Just chomping at the bit to get my issue in hand.

I don't think anyone in the US has gotten theirs yet. And based on the facebook comments, a lot of people in other places haven't either.
