I saw a post on IG that almost all the Xenos aircraft and some Imperial craft are going "Last Chance to Buy".

With the launch of the new Epic set in 30K, does these mean the death knell of 40K AI? Certainly looks likely.

I guess GW no longer feels the need to compete with X-wing or Blood Red Skies. Not losing enough players to these anymore?

Dead, but there is still a decent community in the UK with semi-regular tournaments, so I can still see it being played.

It's a shame, I really enjoy the game. It had interesting mechanics and missions, I just think a lot of folk slam it because it was a direct response to X-Wing. For a casual entry to the game, I spent £60 and got a full eldar air wing by splitting with a friend. Some of the folk decrying the cost because some stuff went FW are ridiculous, same as any other niche game GW produces.

Dead as a doorknob for GW. Which means diddle and squat if you already have the rules and like them, of course.

Game was dead on arrival, as EVERYTHING exept the plane models and 2p box was limited production run from the get go, so no big loss as the game hardly exist outside of uk.

As for execution of 2.0, that is split right between thouse who wanted a competative game, and thouse who wanted a casual game. Moust of us wanted a competative game, that is not what we got with V2, so that is why the interest in the game was very low. (massivly overpriced FW models did not help)

Dead, but will live on those who play it and enjoy it from time to time.

The objective of the game is to win. The point of the game is to have fun. The two should never be confused.

I have both editions alive in my boxes, to play at leisure. But it seems to be going unsupported. Further 8mm 30k flyer releases probably packed with only LI bases, or Here's hoping - both.

It died so that others may live.

And I don't just mean production slots.

Aeronautica was a test - a test to see if Specialist Games will sell based on the models alone if the rules are an absolute zero effort written on one lunch break pike of gak.

Its utter flop was a harsh lesson for GW and thanks to its sacrifice they put the effort into Heresy 2.0 and might put the effort into Epic.

The old meta is dead and the new meta struggles to be born. Now is the time of munchkins.

Between the abscence of a starter set and a limited print run of boards to play on, GW effectively killed off AI last year.

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.

Yeah the absence of a gaming board is a strong turn-off and signals its ending.

When they designed the models one must assume they hoped or had in mind that they would be able to re-use them either in an AT expansion, or like we have now, merging them both into a re-born Epic setting.

Fun, the original AI went the opposite way. Epic was first, and then they built rules for dogfighting with them later.

As others have said, it's been dead for a while now. Grab what you need while you still can.

Dead, but there is some good community balancing (kills me GW is so rubbish it can't just lift work like that off the interwebs, give it a nice font and publish it).

Yep that is just how it is. I checked with a bunch of the guys that have kept the community Epic rules running these past few decades. You have these wonderfully curated rulesets and passion projects, some (like EpicUK) playtested within an inch of their lives by hundreds of players, but AFAIK not one person of that community was consulted in the development of LI. GW does have community engagement these days, but it only extends as far as "buy this", and I think some of the games are the worse for it.

Dead and good riddance. It was a lame downgrade from the original game and its only redeeming quality was getting appropriate models back into production. Hopefully we'll at least get some MTO opportunities on the models once the easily available supply runs out.

Love the 40k universe but hate GW? https://www.onepagerules.com/ is your answer!
