Hi,

I have 2 x 5 man old scale terminators and an old scale terminator captain, librarian and chaplain.

I like the new scale terminator character models but have no wish to replace my terminator squads or buy new ones as yet.

Would a new scale terminator character look too out of scale beside on old scale terminator squad?

Is it reasonable to use a new scale terminator character model along side say a primaris intercessor squad or any other primaris squad?
Does it matter that they have different types of armour?

TIA

There are no rules about inconsistent scales, so you and your opponents decide.

Brutal, but kunning!

The scale of the model shouldn't be an issue, rules-wise.

There are restrictions around what type of character can lead which squad though. A Captain in Terminator Armor can't lead a unit of Intercessors thoigh, iirc.

Also, define “old”

Like the recently replaced kit, RT metals, or any of the other versions produced between them.

Because if you go back far enough, they will look out of place.

The various pre- plastic multi-pose Terminators already looked out of place next to them. They'll look faintly rediculous side by side with the new gigantonators.

Regarding the new indomi models, I was pleased to find that the shoulderpads of the new models are still close enough to being similarly sized than the old ones that those fancy vintage terminator FW resin shoulderpads are still usable. You just have to carve out the extra gubbins + some from the bare shoulder bit.

As for the scale diffs, unless your old termies are from the SMH2 series kits, it'll look like "take your children to work" on the tabletop, but you do you as usual. I suppose it could fly for a character model, as even in the HH2 plastics the praetors are much larger than rank & file

Thanks everyone - one set is from the "Assault on Black Reach" set push fit and the second set is the recently withdrawn multi part squad

Using newer minis as squad leaders? Obviously those marines have access to larger suits as befits their status.

Older squads next to new termies? Tactical rocks, skulls and bodies will help them.

I would only discard the smaller termies if the scale difference bothers you.

I think I posted some pics of the old vs new a while back. You can tell the difference when they're next to each other. It would come down to how much that bothers you or not.

My WHFB armies were Bretonians and Tomb Kings.

When it comes to my old-school metal terminators on 25mm bases, I just glued them on top of 40mm bases from Reaper. Those have a lip around the top and aren't quite as thick. That way my old terminators are the same height, same base diameter, it's cheap and quick, and to don't have to redecorate the bases.

You know, I have an old pewter Space Wolf Wolf Priest in Runic Terminator Armour miniature, which is about the same height as the 5E SM.

I also have the Shield of Baal BA Terminator minis, as well as the BA Space Hulk terminators, which are about half a head taller than the pewter one.

Then the new one is a little taller than whatever that heavier version of the Primaris marine is called -- no, not the flying one. So if you use the ones as the pewter scale, it'd be really out of place, like a Dwarf among grown-ass adults. The 6-7E ones are slightly better, but to me still visually different.

What I had been doing before this new release is getting a bunch of 3D printed terminator legs, scaled up to the same height as the heavy intercessors, to swap out the older one's legs. This is what I did with my SW terminators. For the Baal ones, I used to cut their legs off at the knees and pin them with paper clips, before filling out the gap using greenstuff. Now I just put two putties beneath their feet and press down until there's a layer of greenstuff about the height of the soles of their shoes -- that's about the difference between them anyway. That pewter one I, I keep; I like it, he's like a baby terminator.

Yup. Or just use the old. I'm in the process of trading some Imperialis terrain and cash for 80 Daemonettes and 20 mounted Daemonettes still in box. All Diaz demonettes!!!

Also, the below website had a pretty comprehensive look at Terminator scales across editions -- with visual aids!
