This is something all VOID fans have been waiting for a long time. Many of you have asked us when we will bring back the original VOID plastic miniatures. Finally, we can give you a first glimpse of what is coming and when 🙂.
This set will include everything you need to dive deep into the VOID universe. Here is a quick summary of the contents of the box:
• 50 plastic miniatures (20 Viridian Interdict Marines and 30 Junkers Convict Legionaries)
• Two metal heroes to lead both sides to victory!
• A5 VOID 2.0 Combat Manual - a new updated version of the rules in a handy smaller format!
• A4 The Battle for Monoceros III Campaign book written by Mark Brendan (one of the original creators of the VOID wargame 😃)
As you can see, this box will be packed with VOID goodies.
When you ask? We should start taking pre-orders in November, and we aim to deliver the starter set to you in January/February.

My memory is they were perfectly cromulant future infantry, the Junkers with shotguns and shields, the Viridians with better guns and armor, and ball joints on the shoulders. Despite my long-standing desire for an Arbites Army with shields and shotguns they basically sat in a box for 10 years till I sold them off.

Damn. That's pretty much necromancy.

Void miniatures changed a bit in style depending on the period (Urban War), but junkers were basically gladiators / roman inspired future army and viridian were pretty much the standard generic marines.

For nostalgia's sake, I'm curious to see their new look in plastic. But honestly I have too many games already to play that one.

Well, they only released metal or polyester resin miniatures in the past, so far as I know.

Ah yes I-Kore, it might have been 20 years but the tales of alleged misdeeds and unpaid sculptors are still out there on the internet. That said, I know nothing of the current owners or the IP or really the game itself (I only ever saw it played once).

I definitely didn't have a Void re-release on my bingo card for 2023.

Wow.

My memory is the same as Kid’s: perfectly cromulent…for the time. I don’t know how they’ve aged.

I guess these are what they’re going to chuck in the Void 2.0 box?

That does unlock a memory like a Proustian madeleine.

I’ll double down on “perfectly cromulent.” The shotguns look a tad stubby to my eye, but I’m happy to be told I’m wrong about that.

I must be the one sicko who always gets VOID mixed up with VOR, but these do look great.

Hey. Hey. You wanna muddy the waters further?

Why not buy some Junkers and Viridians right now from Scotia Grendel under the Urban War line?

IIRC Urban War and Void were spit at some point, even though they are set in the same world. Imagine if somehow 40k and Necromunda or Kill Team ended with different companies.

I'm kinda glad about this. There are a handful of the old VOID models that fit in quite well with GW Catachans, with the right paint job. I've literally played with them at a GW store, against a staff member, and he thought my sniper was an old GW sculpt.

Then there are a few that are ripe for conversion. The Behemoth Assault tank made a great base for a Squigoth, and having Catachan looking guys riding Raptors for Rough Riders looks better than horses.

why would they include metal Urban War models in the VOID starter box ("original VOID plastic miniatures")

Not seeing those here though.

if you following the link to Seb Games, they have what appears to be most, if not all, of the original metal VOID 1.1 models available for sale.

The plastic equivalents, is what I meant. Those are the general look of the miniatures, going off memory.

I'm not sure why I'm not surprised by this.
This is one of those things I feel like was bound to happen sooner or later.
I'll keep my eyes out for a box. Can't really recall having any of the plastics cross my table either.

Plenty of the metals. Still want a few oddball Triad sculpts actually!

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

I still get the I-kore VOID minis from NobleKnight. The metals are pretty cheap and a lot of fun to paint up.

I used to demo Void 1.1 for them. Used to get, to me, a stupid amount of metal figures reasonably often. I gave most of them away to tempt local players to buy in.

I bought Synthia from the Urban War line to use as cyborgs in Stargrave. Mildly tempted by the Junkers Gladiators. Like KidCthulhu ordered them from Noble Knight Games.

Strange the IP got split like that. I take it that VOID is the army game and Urban War is the skirmish. Well, let's see how SEB Games does with their attempt to revive Urban War.

It really is weird. I loved the old metals, mediocre as they were. The Urban War stuff was next-level at the time, then...nothing. VOID was strolling along as the alternative not-40K for a few years in the very late 90s. Then suddenly Urban War appeared as NEXT LEVEL EVERYTHING AMAGHADZ! And I mean NEXT. LEVEL. AMAGHADZ!

The timing was actually incredibly unfortunate, only a couple of years before people wanted a next level skirmish sci-fi game turned up to 11.

Urban War really came out of nowhere with these amazing minis when GW was confusing itself and gamer's weren't yet looking outwards. Urban War came out swinging and gamers weren't expecting it, didn't touch it, and confusedly let it slide past while they went along with 3rd ed 40k.

Sadly, a few years later and it would have been the defacto skirmish scifi game. Also, it replaced my beloved Viridian Marine not-catachans with less cool not-Jin-Rohs. VOID really did edge along the unfortunately wrong side of the not-quite-anime-vibe

So basically we went

Mutant Chronicles/Warzone
Void/Urban War
Infinity
Mantic

I may have missed a game or two in there.

I remember excitedly following the release of preview pics like the infantry and the AT-TE style walker during the original VOID release over on TMP and really liked some of the designs.

That said, unless they really updated the design detail, styling, and proportions with the switch to plastic (unlike the most recent Warzone attempts), I don't see this having a chance at taking off as the mass battle game they seem to be aiming for with the model counts in that box. I'd be more optimisic though if it was a skirmish style game with lots of figure variety in the box more in the veins of Necromunda.

I got into Urban War in the early 2000s, at the time the metals were the best looking sci-fi minis on the market, and the gameplay is great.

The VOID sculpts look dated IMO, but the Urban War and Metropolis sculpts are still top-tier, so I'm hoping seb games re-releases more of those.

Wow, I remember seeing VOID minis in a few of the hobby stores back in the early 2000s. Never saw anyone play it though.

Maybe not a popular opinion, but I think those plastics have aged rather poorly. Oddly enough, the Urban War metals still mostly look fantastic in my opinion. Heck the ones in the that starter set linked in the thread look better than a lot of stuff produced today. Depending on shipping I might pick that box up to paint.

Seb Games also owns Urban War now as well (also bought from Scotia Grendel).

They only just got the license this month, so there will still be some stock at SG for the time being.

When it came out a friend and I gave it a try, bought the starter sets, traded the figures, and gave it a try. It was interesting, but then the company seemed to collapse and at the same time the local economy went into the crapper (Michigan had a "lost decade," never recovering from the tech bubble recession), and many hobby shops went under.

That meant that we gorged ourselves on deep discounted stuff, and we just bought it all, figuring to sell it off later.

Turns out, we never got into the game, friend gave me his figures to make room on the condition I had to split any profits from selling them off, and so much of my 2nd. ed. forces are built around VOID 1.1 stuff. Yes, I have a yuuuuge force of Arbites, with all manner of weapons. Painted up in a black/gray urban dazzle scheme.

Some figures became Chaos Marines*, others became Eldar, like the angels who became swooping hawks. I separated out the female fighters and painted them as Sisters of Battle.

*I believe in highly ecletic Chaos forces, mixing in as many lines and parts as possible, while still retaining the spiky look at feel of GW.
