Didn't GW just finish releasing a hundred and seventeen Horus Heresy books with zero mentions of even the possibility of female Custodes existing? Did they only start making them after they made sure the Emperor won't notice, or what?

It makes me wonder if this is just GW navigating their way out of the quagmire on Sisters of Silence. It would be easy to just say that they're Custodes (subcategory Sisters of Silence), maybe roll out a few more sculpts and make the Custodes a more unified force.

Doesn't require any massive retcons or anything.

Well the daily mail have noticed the custodes 'controversy' on the old interwebs

The Warhammer 'squadron'? WTF if that about?

And from the article "one of it's most popular tabletop battalions"? I always thought Custodes players were a pretty minor segment of the player base.

I've never really understood the whole "Same universe, but not same game, so no models sharing" philosophy. You'd think you'd want as mush synergy as possible.

Yes, there could be balance issues. Just limit the really strange stuff to 1 per army or something.

IMO it's because the goal for GW is to have people starting (but not necessarily completing) as many 2000 point armies as possible. That's where the money is and that's why they silo things so heavily.

A lot of meh reactions from me, but I don't play any of the factions previewed.

The TS mechs really bother me though, it seems like they just gave up halfway through designing them. I think it's the lack of leg articulation so they're just standing bolt upright on the battlefield. Most of the other mechs in the game at least have some sort of braced pose or option to have one leg striding forward.

With the digitigrade legs there could have been a lot better poseability.

I definitely understand the frustration of yet more marines.

I'm also a little disappointed the termie box only has 5 shooty termies. I guess the intention is that this will stack with the combat patrols that also have 5, but it feels like cheaping out.

Oh good. I was getting the shakes from not having a new Captain/Ancient miniature since last Tuesday.

Also let's make a Necron Destroyer Lord!
To replace the Lokust which is just shy of a quarter century old?
No!
To replace the Quake boss which is stuck on a sprue with a Cryptek?
No!
To replace the other one ..?
No! Welcome to the Redundancy Department of Redundancy.

Yeah, I like the character Necrons got, but I would've loved a new Destroyer lord and resculpted Destroyers to match the aesthetic of the rest of the line.

Perhaps Huron has a mercenary mek boy that just bolted parts on that looked like a flamer to make it work.
Would also account to for the orkish jaw-job.

I doubt there's an STC for power claw/flamer combo, so yeah I expect this to be a cobbled together hackjob of various metal parts.

I'm pretty neutral on Huron as a character, but this is way better than the metal sculpt. And being plastic means it'll be way easier to convert as well.

Thousand Sons box without Tzaangors? Double heresy

Khorne is the one with the chaff this time around. I can't see spending retail money on Bloodletters, they're so cheap on the secondhand market.

I'm personally a little glad it isn't Perturabo, doesn't mean he isn't coming though...

Warsmith is just okay personally - pose doesn't really work for me I think, but I do really like his crude, and very visable, MIU implementation!

Clearly just showing my grumpy grognard side, but why does it have to be special Warsmith Fred vs just a new generic Warsmith kit? Ugh.

Yeah, something struck me about the warsmith and I think you hit the nail on the head. His pose is just sort of meh, he's not pointing his bolter or winding up to swing, he's just sort of standing there like someone just called his name and he turned to look.

The individual elements of the model are good (though I would have liked chainmail rather than those hanging chevron-y bits of armor) but the composition of those elements together just doesn't pop.

The mutilators are interesting to say the least. I like how the torso is very reminiscent of a mini-Hellbrute, but the weapons are pretty meh especially the stuck on chainswords.

I also think there's not enough flesh/metal merging on it, it's too cleanly armored.

I really like it, the new defiler is the sort of flesh-metal monstrosity I would expect Chaos.

I don't have my hopes up for it soon but I'd love a Chaos abominations army box with the new defiler, mutilators, etc.

Honestly the shared elements don't bother me, the defiler predates the shared daemon engine design language by a looooong way so it was always the outlier.

Exact copies of components? eh, it's a bit annoying, but on the bright side it does make kitbashing easier

I really hope they resculpt the dinobots sometime soon because they really are the worst of the daemon engines, especially now

I'm ok with shared design elements, it's not like the DarkMech are making every component they use a bespoke single time product. They probably have their lesser adepts/servitors/demons assembly line building missile launchers, cannons etc to put on their creations so those parts will look similar.

I think the dinobots have held up rather well considering they're now the oldest demon engines. I'm torn between wanting new sculpts and not wanting to pay more for refreshed minis.

My only complaint is something about the broad, bright colors or lighting makes it look like a toy. I think a more down and dirty paint job with more ink and texture will look good.

Hope we get something like this for chaos knights though.

I hate it tbh, it looks like an AOS kruelboyz boss cosplaying. That big inverted triangle torso is so distinctly different from ork aesthetics. Plus it seems like longer arms and a more upright posture.

I hope they don't do the same thing to any new boyz that might be coming out (if the rumor on orks as new 11th ed box antagonists is true).

Well those armored cars will make a nice addition to my WA Damned.

I'd bet within a week of release there'll be a 3rd party wheeled conversion kit for the halftrack.

I expected the 40k reveals to be meh, but honestly these aren't bad at all.

100 quid for that Knight battalion feels like decent deal. But is the Castellan good?

Codexes are a flat circle - if it's not good now it will be later. May as well have one if you don't already.
