This month is our annual Halloween Special. Spooks, spirits, ghost, goblins, monsters, kids dressed up trick-or-treating, costumes. Pumpkins and changing leaves. It’s spooky time here in the painting challenge, so break out the pumpkin spice flavored paint and get with the season!

As always, you're free to hand out as many votes as you like, and for any entry you feel deserves recognition, based on anything from technical proficiency or model choice, a neat conversion or a cool take on the theme, or anything else! You're also very welcome to leave some feedback here for the entrants, and many of the images click through to the Dakka gallery if you'd like to give out a vote or two there as well.

Thanks. I know how difficult it can be herding cats. Your work compiling all of this is always appreciated, Nev!

Daia T’Nara - It’s impressive how aesthetically pleasing just swapping out the head for a skull is. Very spooky. The molten weapons are nicely done considering the simple use of orange and yellow.

Leopold Helveine - Once again, a simple head swap has really brought a new feeling to the model. I think I might have a bias for kitbashing. I also think the base is interesting to look at with the fallen leaves.

JoshinJapan - Another cool jack-o lantern model with a super cool scythe and super cool pose. I think the scythe is the most nicely painted part of this piece. The muddled oranges highlighted with the stripes of bright silver really gets across an old garden tool sharpened to a keen edge.

Mothsniper - Great highlighting and blending on this piece. The poncho in particular feels like it has so much shade and texture to it.

Youwashock - This is an incredibly beautiful sculpt. Very gigeresque. But you have also elevated it with the superb shading and highlighting of black. One of the hardest colours to scale nicely. The broad, smooth surfaces manage to be filled with interesting patterns and textures.

Ms07b3 - A super cool entry. The pose is action packed with the lunging pose and the tumbling rubble. It really fits the lancer. The crest and the small flames are also great little details.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

Well done all the winners… excellent work all round and I was stumped trying to choose who I voted for!

In the end I handed out votes to:

Daia T’Nara
Geifer
DJ JazzyJeff
Straken619 (fellow ghoul enthusiast)
Ezki
Leopold Helveine
YouWasShock

All the above for various reasons really stood out for me.

I will hopefully post up full feedback this weekend.

Great month!

Thank you Nevelon for hosting and corralling the photos, and to Midget Gems for the tables. Congratulations to everyone who participated and finished painting something, as that is the real prize in the battle against the unpainted.

Cheers,

CB

Sorry I'm in so late, been struggling a bit with motivation, and just focusing on getting my Wrecking Ball done in time. But I did get my votes in on time, as always they were many, and congrats to the well-deserved winners, and everyone who put paint to minis.

Thanks - the molten gear wasn't part of the original plan, just a fortunate impulse I had along the way, the pose of the mini with her gear, particularly the sword, seemed to demand a more eye-catching treatment than the regular old Legion of the Damned bolter look. JoshInJapan commented over on my gallery thread that while the accessories came up a treat, the weapons could've stood to have darker tones, and I think that's true, particularly the bolter, if I had it to do again I'd paint the core of the gun white-hot but repaint the casing at a dull red glow and highlight out darker from there. Still, pretty pleased with how she is.
