Recreate an iconic battle with Lt. Titus with a scenario entirely different from the one in the game without anything demarcating Titus himself.

Classic GW.

It is kind of awkward in that I don't remember Titus having ~1400 points of backup during this fight, but it's been a while since I played.

Even if you take the fight in the game as a super dramatized version where it's Titus vs the Horde and the reality is his whole force was involved, there just wasn't that much of an Ultramarines presence on Graia at all, was there?

Titus and his squad, so a Captain and Sternguard. List done.

Again, I might be misremembering that whole sequence and maybe there was a lot more Ultramarines to choose from.

While I find the concept spot on I'm baffled to see they intended to do this with titus solo-ing nemeroth... Would have been very fun to see it done for example with DoW2 campaign battles.

No additional Ultramarines, IIRC, though it would be odd to only drop three Marines into an Ork invasion. So presumably there were other smurfs on the planet.

Titus did fight alongside some Blood Ravens, though.

There were, i'm just rerunning the campaign right now and there are a few squads of ultramarines with its own objectvies, as in route to find drogan you contact them to redirect the squad of sergeant midas to guard invictus titan. As to say how many besides this additionnal squad, i'll see as it goes but no precise estimate.

Final battle is on your own however

Sounds like this would have been a perfect chance to bring back the old Movie Marines rules.

Come on now! We all remember that time when Primaris Captain Titus led his Primaris Marine forces against Chaos in that video game...

I often point out that GW is always missing opportunities when it comes to everything cross-promotion with licensed products. Maybe they aren't missing these opportunities afterall. Maybe they're not doing it because they're terrible at it.

Nah, it's just that the marketing team is figuring how to cut the minis for the sprues while the rules department is hashing out the latest ad text.

During the final assault on the Spire, we know that there's units planetwide securing objectives (aforementioned, as well as a Squad Solinus, who Titus contacts just before boarding the Thunderhawk taking him up to fight Nemeroth). Alongside that, we also know that there's an undisclosed amount of Blood Ravens, including a "Squad Corvus", and a squad of Black Templars, who "joined the Liberation Fleet at Bakka".

So, at least four squads of Space Marines, plus aerial assets, plus Titus and his command squad, and that's just what we know and see. It's not *huge*, but, off the top of my head, 4 full sized Intercessor squads, company heroes, a captain, and some aerial support shouldn't be TOO far off of the 1500 point Incursion tier game. Though, if I were GW, I'd have included a "here's two example army lists to reflect our interpretation of the iconic scene", in a Combat Patrol style arrangement, so people wanting to play the "canon" version can recreate the battle. Obviously, people can modify according to their personal collection, but for players who might have an extensive collection of minis, they might just be able to recreate such a scene.

Sure, is it accurate to the exact portrayal of the game, no, but the video game isn't reflective of the tabletop game.

Thanks for completing, it's been like 6 year since my last run and I'm only at the point when you get the energy source out of the big boss's reach!

SM probably portrays the tabletop poorly, but it portrays 40k and space marines spot on.
