Looks like Jackie Chan and Ralph Machio are teaming up for the next Karate Kid sequel. Looks like the Jackie Chan version took place in the same universe as the original. The new movie is taking place on the East Coast of the US, with a Chinese immigrant kid trying to find his way.

Cautiously optimistic, because Cobra Kai was genuinely good fun and well made.

What I'd like to see in a plot? Chan's student immigrates to the US, and picks up his training with Machio. This leads to a conflict between the teachers on the best route of training. It will be the teachers that need to adapt to better themselves, and not just the student.

Meh, That's just a continuation of the current Cobra Kai direction. That entire series has mostly been about growing up and realizing different methods have different advantages and there isn't any one way. I do hope they translate the family from the show into the film. It'll be weird if they make the movie separate from the regular Karate Kid universe in which everything but the Jackie Chan movie has been brought together already (they reference stuff from the girl karate kid once or twice in the show).

I haven't seen much of the show. How did they mention the Hilary Swank movie?

Thus far I don't think they have mentioned the Hilary Swank movie... Maybe she'll come in in the final series 6?

He referenced Mr. Miyagi training others at one point in the earlier seasons in a way that seemed to indicate the hilary swank movie. I dont' think they ever came out and said it but given that they've incorporated all the other miyagi films I'd shocked if it wasn't cannon.

You know what, I've watched it through twice now and completely missed that!

Speaking of Cobra Kai, man the series finale, what an ending! I was worried about it when part 2 kinda had that strange ending, I felt maybe they wrote themselves into a corner with that korean branch of karate, but I really feel like it pulled out well.
