Dave Filoni becomes Chief Creative Officer of Lucasfilm

For all the highs (Mandolorain) and lows (Book of Boba), and the meh (Ashoka) I still think he would have done a better job with the sequels. To little to late?

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

Honestly? Absolutely a good thing.

Clone Wars and Rebels both show he’s more than capable of weaving quite complex tales, and seeding origins of further stories which don’t need to be wrapped up next season (ref, Mandalore).

Not only is his stuff the best serialised Star Wars? It’s just some of the best Star Wars.

Quick consideration of stuff that’s knocked.

Ahsoka. Yeah, not evenly remotely close to being as bad as folks on the Internet claim.

Book of Boba Fett. Some excellent moments, but off in scale. Like Boba trying to become a crime boss with like, half a dozen underlings. In a way it reminded me of Sharpe, where budgetary constraints meant we just couldn’t see battles in the proper scale. But there was a lot to enjoy (that final shoot out episode is really cool in my opinion).

Filoni absolutely is the man you want in charge. He understands the setting, he knows how to explore it, including adding in new bits and bobs here and there.

Cool? I'd have called it super chill. As in the opposite of tense, which is not what you want out of a final battle. Book of Boba suffered from useless Pykes just like Mando suffered from useless Stormtroopers. That's one thing they should get through their thick skulls already. You can't build tension if you show the bad guys to be incapable of posing even the most modest threat.

From the article:

So it’s hard to say if this is positive or not, but it does indicate that Lucasfilm wants to focus more on things like those three and less on things like, say, Andor, which Filoni did not make and which presented a very different vision of that universe from anything he’s made.

That's a bummer.

Andor was never going to be the template for how Star Wars will be done in the future. It's a nice side dish that shows some of the things that can be done with the setting, but the core experience will be space adventures with blasters, laser swords and a dose of humor.

Also I doubt Filoni getting the job will suddenly turn Lucasfilm into a one man show. If Andor is successful, there's no reason not to add more along those lines. It just won't be the bulk of what we get.

Yes, while people like me see Andor as an absolute high point, we aren't the bulk of fans, and indeed it could have been any SciFi show.

Tentatively encouraged by this. I do hope this means he'll have more influence over the universe than Kennedy, but that remains to be seen.

In general my expectations for anything from Star Wars these days are modest. I don't really expect greatness, but if it's better than Episodes 1-3 I'm satisfied. With that benchmark almost everything that has come out has been a resulted in pleasant return to a universe I love and there have been some real enjoyably great stabs at greatness.

I think alot more folks would be satisfied if they set their sights for SW just a little lower. Just go along and enjoy the fun ride and every so often you'll be pleasantly surprised.

From Wikipedia:

Disney and Lucasfilm announced that "Part One" had 14 million views in the five days following its release, becoming the most watched title on Disney+ during the week of its launch; Disney defined views as total stream time divided by runtime, which The Hollywood Reporter equated to 784 million minutes. According to Samba TV, the first episode was viewed in 1.2 million households over its first five days. According to the streaming aggregator Reelgood, Ahsoka was the most streamed program across all platforms in the United States during the week of August 24–31, 2023. According to Whip Media's TV Time, Ahsoka was again the most streamed television series across all platforms in the United States during the week of September 10, 2023, during the week of September 17, 2023, during the week of September 24, 2023, during the week of October 1, 2023, and during the week of October 8, 2023.

This should raise the general quality.... but not by much. And I think we are going to see a lot of Starwars Street as a result.

Get ready for everyone to cameo in everything. That is Filoni's way. Smallest galaxy that ever was.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Yeah... I used to have faith in Filoni. But then Mando S3 and Ahsoka happened.

It was trash. Nonsensical plot-hole-ridden trash. And boring as all get out.

It wasn't Boba Fett/Obi-Wans level of absolute crap, but it was still (somehow) worse than Mando S3.
