How do!

Well we’re 10 days out from the big day. And here’s a thread to celebrate the very, very best of Christmas songs.

No, hopefully not just Pop drivel with some sleigh bells edited in. Proper proper Christmas songs. The songs which, as a kid, heralded the receipt of many many awesome toys. And for those who believe, heralded a day of religious significance.

I’ll kick us off with an absolute classic. Because before Mariah Carey, and indeed after? There was, is, and forever will be, a single one true herald of Chrimbo.

I’ve never known a song to so perfectly encapsulate a shared human experience.

This is my favourite Christmas song:

Despite it being a 70s song I actually only discovered it a few years ago.

It's also about as blasphemous as it gets, which is a plus.

Another classic banger, this time from Wizzard.

And it think that might be Lemmy on Bass?

My favorite Christmas song...

'It is a source of constant consternation that my opponents
cannot correlate their innate inferiority with their inevitable
defeat. It would seem that stupidity is as eternal as war.'

I'm afraid that Lemmy wasn't the bass player for Wizzard. I'm sure Rick Price would take the compliment though.

Thank you for the name!

But, y’know? If you showed me piccies of Rick and Lemmy from that specific era? I’m not sure I could tell them apart!

Sometimes it's scary what YouTube will 'randomly' show you...

The Darkness somehow managed to get bells end sung by a bunch of kids and broadcast on the radio. This song for me beats even all the classic songs from my youth.

"Feigning joy and surprise at the gifts we despise over mulled wine, with you"

Spoiler:

Have you ever heard a song so often that it just makes you hate it after a while? Yeah, I heard enough of that song in the 80's that I don't want to hear it again. I'd rather listen to this song from the Clown Prince of Country Music...

My favorite is the old Bing Crosby standard White Christmas. I watch the movie every year too.

However, I also have like an 8 album set of Bing Crosby songs that I listen to year round. I like Bing Crosby, okay.

Technically* Shane McGowan was a plastic paddy. Because he was born in Pembury Hospital, just outside of Royal Tunbridge Wells.

*technically as in no way that actually makes a damned difference.

Yeah. Royal Tunbridge Wells. A town so southern England it…erm…also played home to…erm….a member of the Damned (RIP Algy) and Sid Vicious.

And way, way, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down the rankings, me. In turn.

It’s still a fantastic Christmas song!
