Hi there! Figured I'd start a new thread to showcase some Inq28 characters I made and some that I am still working on. Since the time I bought my first White Dwarf Magazine in 2001, I was in LOVE with the Inquisitor setting and the miniatures. I still fondly remember the awesome battle reports in the issues of WD around that time. While I never got into the Inquisitor game itself, lacking anyone to play against, I was still always interested in the setting because it offers so many intersting possibilities. I love the conversion aspect and creating some custom fluff for the resulting miniatures that befits the grim darkness of the 41st millenium. I recently listened to the Eisenhorn trilogy audiobooks, and am in the middle of the Ravenor series now. This has sparked my interest to delve into some conversion work, but rather than doing some original 54mm size miniatures, I decided to go for the much more prevalent Inq28 scale. With my bitz box having collected stuff from many years of hobbying, I can get creative and make some cool conversions for that game system. I hope there are some fellow Inquisitor fans out there who will apreciate this kind of content. Now without further ado, let's get to the good stuff.

Can you remind me what was inquisitor exactly? Wasn't around at the time, sadly, being but a baby in 2001!

Oh man, you're in for a treat. If you like 40k, Inquisitor is even more awesome IMO. It's basically what got me hooked on the hobby. Well, Inquisitor was a tabletop wargame/RPG from GW that was released around 2000, and it involved games with a small select group of miniatures in skirmish battles. You can think of Inquisitors as detectives for the Imperium, and the game let you play one with his retinue as they uncovered mysteries and fought evil gangs or other Inquisitors (or whatever else you could think of). I highly recommend checking out the Eisenhorn book series, they are very well written and very exciting.

Anyways, I hope that cleared things up a little, sorry if I'm rambling Thanks for commenting Maréchal!

The Gun Servitor dubbed 'Sabrael' was once a member of Inquisitor Harken's retinue named Lydas Sabraelius Thorne. As an inquisitorial stormtrooper, Thorne loyally served many years as Harken's first lieutenant, task force commander and personal bodyguard. When the hunt for rival Inquisitor Castillan, a radical member of the Ordo Malleus, brought them to the planet Zeron Lux, Thorne was corrupted by the rogue Inquisitor's promises of immeasurable riches and power in exchange for his loyalty. In the ensuing battle between the two inquisitorial forces, Thorne was mortally wounded and left to die on the battlefield, betrayed by his new chosen master who managed to escape. Inquisitor Harken however was not about to forget Thorne's treachery. He had the wounded traitor transported back to his ship and handed him over to the Adeptus Mechanicus with the order to prepare him for 'Servitude Imperpituis'.

Thorne, or what little remains of the man he once was, has been encased in a metallic hull that represents his personal, mobile prison, and he now accompanies Inquisitor Harken into combat to atone for his heresy. Sluggishly, the penitent patrols near his master with heavy, metallic footsteps, his implanted Psycannon hanging limply at his side until he receives psychically transmitted orders. Sabrael serves his eternal sentence in complete and utter loyalty, incapable of even contemplating such lofty concepts as betrayal after his lobotomisation at the hands of the Mechanicum.

That's a neat little story and conversion you've got here sir! Can you fight skirmishes against xenos as well in that ruleset? Seems a lot to be like minded with rogue trader rulewise though, as you describe it a a hybrid RPG/skirmish.

Thanks again Maréchal!
I think there's a very large amount of rules, both homebrew and official, that would allow you to play against almost anything in the 41st millenium. I never played though, so I'm not sure how you would work that out rules wise. But I'm almost certain it's possible. And I believe it is similar to Rogue Trader

Thanks, there you go!

He's in need of dipping, it was long ago that I painted him and I was even less skilled than I'm now! Anyways, to the lore!

Inquisitor Tobias

Inquisitor Tobias is a man of short size and temper. Raised on Cadia, where he learnt to fight, and soon deployed as a whiteshield against the orks, his commissars quickly noted his kin mind and aptitude to understand ork language fully as a self learner. The Inquisition, in turn, took a closer look at whiteshield Tobias and introduced him as an trainee, whre he demonstrated how talented he was in xenology, thus quicly graduating to the rank of full fledge inquisitor.

After working most of his brilliant inquisitorial career with paradoxaly very few impressive moments, first, for long years, as an expert in ork tongue and culture, then not too long ago as an artefact researcher, his life become much more agitated.

He embarked on an expedition on the lost world of Urgax IIV, surrendered to the orks by the 402e Cadian Polyvalent a few years ago. There, he was to lend a hand in dealing with local orks and estimate the deterioration of the artefact called "impulso munoum" in case the orks started tinkering with it. The expedition was a bold and well fundd endeavor: a demi company of space marines Hailing from the Angeli Igni chapter escorted an Imperial Guard penal legion, all of this benefiting from a detachment of the Adeptus Mecanicus lead by Magos Glypho. Glypho was a name that would plague Tobias for the years to come.

Long story short, the endeavour ended in complete disaster. The guard and the mecanicus were wiped out in a demonic outbreak caused by the wannabe artefact, while the marines were crushed to a mean by the ravening horde of Kommando Boss Moldok. Tobias only escaped thanks to his keen knowledge of ork psyche, managing to more or less bribe Moldok to gain his mercy and escape. While he made it out, and Moldok repulsed the demons, his inquisitorial peers were not at all pleased.

Being a member of a major ordo protected Tobias against too intrusive investigation about the demons he came across, getting away with by a mind cleansing, but his colleagues couldn,'t overlook the insult of surviving through getting the mercy of an ork like a coward, plus, being one of the last survivors of the raid, the blame fell on his shoulders.

Exiled, he was to be back in grace under the condition he succesfully defeat aliens. This sort of penitent quest lead him to the world of Magadan, where the Tau were invading and the guard wrestling to throw them back. Tobias arrived on the planet to find out that the Tau's success in this war was mostly due to sabotage and subversion caused by pro-tau cells, and he got at them with all the sharpness of his mind, learning tau language, culture, thought patterns and the knowing the local populace in but a month or so. Tobias thus became instrumental in rooting out this saboteurs and allowing the guard to push the invaders back. But an old acquaintance was to ruin his almost perfect day/

Glypho, the Magos, was back, seemingly to help the Guard fight off the Tau in retreat, but as the war progressed, Tobias kept monitoring his actions and when necrons stuck home to invade the world, stirred back to life by the machinations of Glypho on a nearby moon, he was the one to denounce it and take over overall command.

From this point on, Tobias has been waging two wars: one was to outwit and know the necrons like the back of his hand, at which he was making tremendous progress marking him day by day as a necron expert, even capable of speaking some basic sentences. The other one was a personnal vendetta against Glypho, who he swore he'd bring low and court martial for all to see.

While he ran the war on Magadan, he repeatedly delegated command to collect evidence of Glypho's treacheries and victims or eyewitnesses - that is, Glyho's former allies - . Hand in hand with other inquisitors, Lopez, Marco, and Openai, the latter being an Ordo mecanicum operative, he convinced the 402e Cadien, the Angeli Igni, and Glypho's second in command, Phyto, to denounce his master. In this fashion, after a mockery of court, Tobias proved to have been the driving force behind Glypho's wiping from the imperial political game, as he was almost killed by the Angeli igni and finally detained by Phyto in his very own star fortress amidst the attack of a hive fleet in sector Champagne.

Now, Tobias can focus on his necron war, a war in which his every ability, in every field, will be put to the test as he keeps trying to bring his reputation back on its tracks and get his inquisitorial seat back!

Small note: the story's a bit long and, maybe, has got a lot of twists, but what I love about it is that it is the result of character developing him though at least 3 campaings we played!

Hey Marèchal! That's a very cool story, thanks for sharing! I love that his background evolved naturally through the campaigns you played. That is the greatest thing about this hobby: the stories that develop as we enjoy building, painting and gaming with our models! Again, thanks for posting and all your input so far!

All the pleasure is mine, it's great fun to be able to share these stories!

I'm very much in the narrative part of the hobby through 40k, although I also happily make up characters or scenarios for other games or universes, mostly Stalker. It's a pleasing way to harness creativity in some way and thrilling to boil several brains together as we let our imagination wander freely!

One thing I find great with the inquisition is that it is a faction that let's you journey through the most remote aspects or places of the universe, such as civilian life, militias, secrets, political strifes... That are a lot less present though the viewpoint of 40k the larger scale wargame. When you enjoy "forging your narrative" as much as I do, it's a real joy

Absolutely. It's also a big reason why I'm so fascinated with the topic. It let's you explore more mundane settings and reveals so many interesting details about life in the 41st millenium which the larger scale wargame rarely tends to do. Often, the tides of war can only be swayed through huge battallions of Imperial guardsmen sacrificing themselves, through surgicals strikes of Astartes spearheads, through the devastating firepower of Titan warmachines, but sometimes, a single bullet between the eyes of a traitor can mean the difference between salvation and destruction for a planet or even an entire sector. And that's what makes the setting so compelling imo. The imperium is fighting for survival every day, and it is only through the ceaseless work of the inquisitors that it has not fallen.

Thanks for your insights Maréchal! If you have any more stuff you wanna share, I'd love to see it

Sure! Luckily, there's a convenient way to get all the Inquisitor stuff ever released in one go. Check out this site: https://www.the-conclave.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=34.0

They have collected all official releases from GW as well as all WD articles and even countless homebrew rules. Be warned though, it's a lot!
Oh btw, just be warned that INQ is a game that requires a Game Master, so basically a 3rd neutral party that acts as sort of a referee. There might be ways to make do with just 2 people, but I haven't looked into that yet. Just be aware of that going into it.

Hope this helps!

Small heads up, I'm actually trying to convince my brother and after him the two other players in our group to try this out. I've read the base rules already and while a bit heavy on the maths, the presence of dedicated GM should do the tricks and there's potential to be tons of fun. I'll dive into further material when I get some time to spare.

I've already got a scenario I intended for a kill team sized series of battles that would actually do so much better at inquisitors scale of battle and enhanced characters personalities. In fact, it's some sort of stupid stalker crossover. I'm already imagining my inquisitors and veterans guardsmen taking on wannabe chimaeras and bandits

Hey Maréchal! That's great to hear! I'm already looking forward to reading about some potential games in the future! Oh and thanks for keeping the thread alive btw! Also, did you read the battle reports in the White Dwarf issues? They are very inspiring from a narrative perspective. Abomination

I highly recommend those for lore and writing inspiration Anyways, thanks a lot for commenting, Maréchal!
