Subject: Henry Cavill talks Warhammer on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!'
It seems odd that Kimmel appeared to be so clueless about the hobby - even the New York Times has reported on Cavill's new role for the intended Amazon WH40k show. Maybe it was just an act.
I bet most of us have had that conversation at some point, the difference being that Henry managed to explain it without gritting his teeth or being defensive. That's why he is such a great ambassador for this hobby.

Pretty sure the show just grabbed the image off the internet and that it was not supplied by Cavill. Never really watched the Jimmy Kimmel show is it always that cringe inducing?

Yes, I think the helmet image has been around for a while. Kimmel isn't the most talented of these late night hosts, but he's not an idiot - I wonder if they agreed beforehand that he would pretend to be clueless about the hobby.

at a guess the acting clueless about a subject bit is meant to allow the subject to be explained to an audience who also may not know much about it, its not an uncommon way to discuss a subject

Perhaps but he seemed more incredulous than clueless.

Cavill could have asked for it to be included in his interview given the eventual shows/media stuff so adding that into interviews, especially for US shows, is a good call.

Oh look it's another sneering, condescending git asking if it's "like D&D" because that's the only frame of reference anyone has apparently.
Glad Henry's comfortable talking about it and it's not being treated as a "ha, nerd!" gotcha but every single interview that brings it up is exactly. the. bloody. same.
I watched it and it was a good interview, I mean Jimmy Kimbel is all fluff anyway, but the game was presented it a very positive light for the most part. Some obligatory nerd references, but that is less of an issue as nerd culture has become more mainstream. I mean this interview shows a very popular actor who loves and is invested in the game, and that is always good for the continuation of the game and expanding the player base.
Also that movie he is in looks cool, I want to see that

Every one of these interviews goes through an extensive pre-interview process to make sure the guest gets to talk about what he wants and is not asked any questions he wants to avoid. Kimmel brought this up because Cavill wanted him to, and in a manner he at least found acceptable and Kimmel thought he could sell to his audience.
I also didn’t see any sneering. Kimmel was trying to add humor or known cultural touchstones to a conversation about something most American normies would have found baffling.
Very much this - Kimmel may be unfunny (especially comparted to The Man Show days) but he's far from stupid. He knows his audience and how broad a brush it is and how to present to him. "Are you a nerd?" just gets right to that question and allows Henry to defuse it immediately.
And yeah, "Have you heard of Dungeons and Dragons? Sort of like that, but different" is how you explain this stuff to normies. I usually don't talk about my hobbies to people not because I'm ashamed, but because I just can't be bothered, but when pressed, that's how I do it.
While I find Kimmel a third tier late night comedian, I respect him for having the self awareness to bring on Guillermo and add some needed charisma to his show.
Because something is decided and discussed beforehand doesn't keep it from being cringe worthy or poorly executed, of which this interview came off as both; no comedian bats 100% even at the top of their game. "Just trying to entertain" doesn't excuse it as coming across poorly.

It's funny that this is the way to introduce Warhammer to the uninitiated. There was a time when it was more likely that laypeople were more likely to know about wargaming than role-playing games, and you would explain D&D by saying 'well, it's a kind of wargame, but everyone is on the same side".
