How do!

Yes I feel slightly dirty about the title. But here we are.

And it’s a top five wish listing for new Legions Imperialis kits. And now feels about the right time, as the last round of units with rules has gone up for pre-order, hurrah! And we know what’s coming in the next book too, and have seen the models. Further hurrah!

But there’s still lots and lots of stuff in 28mm to cover, albeit mostly for the Astartes. My top five, in no particular order?

1. Fellblade/Falchion family. C’mon, gimmer those super heavies.

2. Recut infantry. See, it currently takes four, yes four, sets of infantry to max out the various units. Now in doing so you get a lot of units. But it makes adding say, Assault or Heavy Infantry to my Astartes force prohibitively expensive. So a recut would be welcome.

3. Aurox for SA

4. Mechanicum

5. Cerberus

My top 5 in no particular order:

- Daemons, they’re an important aspect of the Horus Heresy, and were well represented in previous editions, with greater daemons, daemon primarchs and all manner of gribblies. Make them a strategic asset so it doesn’t get out of hand.

- I’d go one further than recut infantry and ask for additional infantry units to be available alongside extra Assault and Terminator squads in a new box. Things like Recon marines, Destroyers, Devastators, Scouts, and hurried initiates etc.

- Fast Attack options for Solar Auxillia, not sure how rough riders would work with the whole void capable thing, but we know heresy era mortal units had access to Speeders, bikes and other things like that. Scout walkers would work too.

- Capitol Imperialis/Leviathan, for me this is one of the iconic units of previous editions, a mobile fortress with its own void shields. Would really suit SA imo.

- Hard not to echo calls for Mechanicum/Dark Mechanicum too.

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

I would agree with that Albertorius, but this is the known release model so it would be like asking for Hell to freeze over (not likely to happen! )

- What I would like is an official app. This is 2024 and we shouldn't be relying on hefting around all those rulebooks, having to refer to book indecies and army lists scribbled on paper. It shouldn't need 3rd party apps, as much as I like Army Builder. GW have done it with Sigmar, a simpler game that arguably needs it much less, so why not adapt it for Legions? People will still buy the books

- Echo Gen Kroll above and say Daemons. A plastic sprue with a selection of the 'classics' would be awesome. Selfishly, the Epic community has been missing this for a while as the originals are now an insane price, and there isn't much in the way of proxies. A 'fiends of the ruinstorm' £30 boxset is probably not out of the question alongside book number 5 or 6 perhaps, I will say facetiously?

- Some proper marketing and a presence in White Dwarf. There are still so many people that don't know about Legions/Epic and the 500 issue WD not even mentioning the game, or a single image, really made me sad. There is an opportunity to try and bump up Epic community numbers with this game and the occasional WarhamCommumity post is not going to cut it I'm afraid.
Actually have the game and minis available in WD stores too.. I know store space is limited, but Epic is such a great concept and GW have made these lovely minis - let people buy them!

Agree that an app would be great! And more presence in store too.

Epic is a really good stepping stone into the hobby, the models are easier to paint (especially with contrast) and it’s very easy to quickly amass a sizeable force.

Long given up waiting for it but plastic Armigers and proper rules for fielding a primary Household force is all I've ever expected of Legions.

XENOS

When will we see then

2040?!

Though that complaint aside honestly right now what I'd like to see is the Mechanicus. I'd also like to see the game scale up so that taking multiple knight units and titans in support of regular infantry and tanks becomes possible. Ergo lets get those really big battles with a lot on the table

top five things to see..

1. more infantry options - I highly doubt this is coming, but breachers, despoilers, specialist terminator units

2. Whirlwinds

3. Vindicators

4. fortifications that can be taken as part of a list, e.g. trenchlines, minefields, bunkers etc

5. more weapon options for existing kits - e.g. like dreadnoughts having more than lascannon or gatling gun, allow twin close combat, allow twin ranged

thats for models, for rules

1. total reworking of the points system to have at least some connection with on table performance

2. more varied scenarios with alternate scoring mechanics (sudden death, end of game, progressive as is is now, murder rate, minimising losses etc)

3. move to either using a D12 or the D6 with results of 7, 8 & 9 being possible and drop "6 always hits" to reduce the impact of just spamming shots

4. re-balance damage results, at the moment stuff just dies way too fast, give some units more wounds is probably the easiest way (e.g. "battle tank" stuff gets two wounds, "heavy" stuff three, "super heavy" four and work up from there - the aim being it should take a unit roughly three turns to kill a like for like not the current one to two turns so its not suicidal to have stuff exposed - much easier to approach stuff thats stationary on first fire

5. make the different orders do something, e.g. 1st edition had +1 to hit for FF and -1 for charge, also adjust movement so charge moves come first, then advance

6. change force building back to closer to how 2nd edition had it, company units, with special and support units limited in number

To be honest 1st was much better, 2nd was better organised

Actually, it's 2004! (Or even before) for Xenos

There are some guys (Apologist, who posts on this forum and B&C, for one) doing LI/Xenos rules.
Or play a previous version, I'm not sure anything official will ever come,.just because of the development and production/sku limits at GW.

Mechanicum I think are a strong possibility. Perhaps some 'battle for Mars' supplement which introduces them as a faction? And they could easily fit in with the special rules/concepts we have in the rules right now.

If LI is indeed selling well? I reckon we’ll see a 40K version before too long. Whether Heresy and 40K Epic would be compatible we can only guess.

2. More infantry types, with terminator variants on the sprue.

3. Fortification type terrain.

4. Leviathan and/or Capitol Imperialis.

Much as I'm not a fan of the DLC/supplement treadmill, mechanicum in a battle for Mars bookwould be rad.

Plastic-wise, Fellblade/Falchion would also be top of my list.

TBH though, and this might seem like heresy, but I want to know where the FW releases for LI are! Not that I'm complaining about the volume of plastic releases, which is awesome, but I want primarchs man. May be controversial (?) but inmany ways I think they'd suit the scale of Ll better than in big 30k.

key with a Mechanicum book for Mars would be make it one book...

not have four or five books covering the units for one faction

Out of luck on that one.

Whilst I’ve mixed opinions on expansions in this style? As with my view on Necromunda, if it’s what the game needs to survive and stick around? I can live with it.

Not to say it’s good. This is a proper Sisko “In The Pale Moonlight” I can live with it.

Do or rather have they ever released compendiums for Necromunda, to help those who didn’t get in on the ground floor?

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

They did do a 'gangs of the underhive' book didn't they which was a compilation of the separate gang books plus errata. So maybe we will see something similar for Legions?

I keep looking at this quite mental Ordinatus miniature.. not sure if we will see anything official (or if it would be more likely to appear in Adeptus Titanicus?)
This does have 'official' rules in Epic Space Marine, and a now ridiculously expensive and hard to find mini that was released late-on in that game's lifespan, so there is a precedent for it.

It would be good to get sprues just of terminators as otherwise you will end up buying boxes full of tactical bases you'll never need.
Apart from that Mechanicus would be good and further down Primarch figures would help, but not holding my breath on those.

I’m definitely in favour of recut or further Infantry Sprues.

Because it’s not just Terminators.

It’s Assault Marines, Heavy Support and Plasma Support.

Now I don’t mind those being of relatively limited availability, otherwise we’d see them spammed and spammed and spammed over Tactical Maureens.

But if we get day, Breachers* and other semi-specialist infantry? Stick some of those classic specialist units in as well, yeah?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I say that as whilst I speak only for myself? I don’t object to having to buy multiple boxes to bulk out units. But I wouldn’t mind a variety of sources to prevent overall repetition in my collection.

Not really. Periodically they release a new version of the rulebook, which has arbitrary differences from the previous version of the rulebook, collects SOME rules from past expansions and drops other, and may be available separately or only in a big box, and may have a new campaign style in it (or not). Titanicus famously got an updated rulebook that incorporated some errata and then they did a starter box that reverted to the original non-errata version of the rules.

Things I want to see for LI in terms of models

1) All the remaining factions of 30K ported over (with only two factions in the game right now, does not feel sustainable)

2) Specialized intantry being available separately, or at least in better quantities than now

3) Massive superheavy vehicles (Those venerable "Juggnernaut" vehicle types from the age of RT). basically titan size vehicles like the AM Ordinatus and vintage Epic staples like Capitol Imperialis

4) At least two more terrain kits (to break the monotony of existing stuff some more), which are somewhat compatible with all the other existing terrain kits. Take a look at 40K - we have like 4-6 different looking buildings to mash up a table with (all from different time periods but still available on ebay), resulting in a much more immersive looking table.. and this is all before adding natural scenic elements such as cliffs, woodland etc

5) Plastic order tokens! yes you heard me right. Those slinky thin cardboard pieces are embarrassing

Think all of those would be very beneficial for the game!

The order counter ones is a funny one - I did think those were a manufacturing/spec fault, as they are well below the standard that GW would usually find acceptable. But with the rulebook and release date issue, you would have thought (if they had turned up late from the printers like that, realised they were not up to spec been forced to include) then you would have thought they would have had time to reproduce them on a better card stock?

In the meantime, I guess the 3rd party and 3d printer people are doing very well from it, as I don't think I've met anyone that finds them acceptable. They were significantly worse quality than the order tokens that came with Epic Space Marine, 30 years ago.

those counters were the first thing I replaced, horrible and borderline unusable given how many torn coming off the sheet.

Ordinatus and Dæmon Engines are top of my list. I want to be able to run a classic 2nd edition style Epic Chaos army!

Also, want another Titan chassis or two. Apocalypse, Imperator or Rapier titan...

Edit - alternative armour mark sprues as well. That way, we can get more terminators and weapon variants for our infantry.

I'd quite like the ability to go back to 1st edition Adeptus Titanicus in terms of titan customisation

e.g. take the roof rack weapons off a Warlord and get its speed up and/or make the arm weapons more powerful

the things are a huge chunk of points, customisation would be good

mind you as would properly costed units and options but thats pure heresy

United Kingdom

I would like something to differentiate between loyalist and traitor a bit more. I understand the equally matched sides, etc but I really feel that some careful introductions could add some colour and difference. So, in no particular order

Possessed marines/dreadnoughts

Daemon units

Daemon titans - could be a simple upgrade sprue + rules

Chaos effects like clouds of flies, etc

Cultist chaff hordes

Custodes with all their bikes, variants, dreads, etc

Sisters of Silence

And obviously Mechanicum which could be a base box with the thralls and some of the robot units, plus vehicles separately. Launch in a big box like the recent battle groups to allow a quick kick off.

Plus the units not currently in the game: Cerberus, Mastodon, Fellblade, Sicaran Venator, etc.

Beyond that I'm not sure what else they can give us?

Are Rough Riders in SA in canon?

Obviously the Primarchs and some big daemons would also be great, Belakor, etc.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

In response to a question over on B&C I added up the numbers of kits and sprues for all specialist games (except Necromunda) and since I already took the time I wanted to post it over here too as its quite interesting how much investment LI is getting:

Ignoring any terrain and bases and using sprue sizes instead of kit numbers to gauge investment these are the numbers different sub-games got:

I'll count the Dire Wolf and Warhound weapons as Titanicus releases but the plastic Arvus Lighter as LI release instead of AI.
The sprues sizes will all be converted to medium size sprues which is the LI standard size.

Legions Imperialis got 24 kits with 24 medium size sprues with 3 more kits with 3 more sprues on the way so 27 medium size sprues in 9 months
Titanicus got 14 plastic kits with 34.25 medium size sprues , 8 resin Knight/Titans kits and 19 resin weapon releases (still counting resin releases that later got replaced by plastic)
So a total of 34.25 medium size sprues and 27 resin releases over a total of 72 months
Aeronautica Imperialis got 21 plastic kits with 23 medium size sprues and 15 resin resin releases
So a total of 23 medium size sprues and 15 resin releases over a total of 27 months (Launched in June 2020, last release in August 2022 with the Legio Custodes Ares Gunship)
Underworlds got 58 warbands with 1 medium size sprue each so a total of 58 medium size sprues over a total of 82 months
Warcry got 32 kits with 54 medium size sprues over a total of 60 months. It also got alot of terrain releases but I'm not counting them here.
Kill Team second edition got some new 40k models released as part of KT commander sets but they weren't really KT releases so the Elucidian Starstriders and Gellerpox Infected were the only real KT releases so 3 medium size sprues. It really started with the 3 season so thats when I'm going to start counting.
KT 3rd season got 15 kits and 8 upgrade kits with 40.5 medium size sprues over a total of 36 months. Again alot of terrain releases but I'm not counting them here.

Necromunda is a bit too muddled with their releases for me so not going to count them.

So on average:
LI got 3 medium size sprues per month
Titanicus got 0.48 medium size sprues and 0.375 resin releases per month
Aeronautica got 0.85 medium size sprues and 0.55 resin releases per month
Underworlds got 0.707 medium size sprues per month
Warcry got 0.9 medium size sprues per month
Kill Team got 1.125 medium size sprues per month

So on average LI got nearly 3x as much as the next highest game. Of course LI is still young so now is the time we are getting more kits in average so that will distort the numbers but still we really can't complain with this output
