Welcome all to the 113th round of the Dakka Painting challenge. For the unfamiliar, this is a friendly painting competition open to members of all skill levels and experience, whether your entry is your first or you thousand-and-first time painting miniatures. Each month, finished entries are collected into a thread where the community can vote on their favorite pieces, and those votes go towards an annual overall League that runs for 12 rounds.

This month the topic is: Footslogger - Sometimes the best way to get somewhere is putting one foot in front of the other. No fancy bikes or tanks. No fancy horses or winged monsters. Just the poor infantry with a good pair of boots. Getting where you need to go and getting things done. Taking ground and holding it. These boots are made for walking, and that’s just what they’ll do...

How To Enter

- You may enter up to 5 MODELS as a SINGLE ENTRY, and are permitted one entry per member per month. If you enter multiple models, they should ideally be related in some way, such as part of the same squad, unit or scene if you are doing a diorama
- You may enter at any time during the month, up to the last minute. We do encourage people to enter early, as to be part of the community, but if you can’t start until the 11th hour, that’s OK.
- You MUST post a 'proof' picture of your entry in the thread of the state it was in before you started working on it; this must be either unassembled, unpainted, primed or coated a single colour. Entries that do not submit a valid Proof Picture will not be eligible for voting.
- After this, you may post WIP pictures in this thread and your own if you wish, and on completing the entry, you may post up to 6 final pictures IN THIS THREAD that will then be used for voting. Please note that pictures in a montage or collage picture will be considered individual images for this purpose, so while these types of presentation are certainly acceptable, please keep the image limit in mind when compiling them. For example, a collage of 5 images and one separate image would count as your 6 picture allowance.

So What Do I Win?
- Points... and points mean... bragging rights for the next month! Following the vote, points will be awarded to every entrant. This year, the Points you receive will be equal to the Percentage of Votes your entry receives in the final Voting thread; if you get 10%, you get 10 points, if you get 6% you get 6 points, so on and so forth.

These points will be used to form a league table, which will be updated month on month as the results come in.

How Long Do I Have?
This challenge begins 1st of July and will end at midnight EST on July 31st. After this, I shall compile the finished entries into a new thread, and voting will run for 5 days.

Keeping on the female theme above, I think I have an old metal Howling Banshee Exarch to prime and paint.

Cheers,

CB

PS: Then I remembered I had an extra Dark Reaper Exarch...so I figured I would take advantage of the contrast of black and white.

Can I ask your indulgence good people of Dakka?

I got these dilapidated plastic dwarves off eBay like this and I don’t want to bother stripping them or over-spraying them. Can I just call this primed and set about trying to make these guys look worthy of the painting challenge? Or is this just setting a bad precedent for future challenges?

Alternatively I could also find a female biped.

The question is how much of that is going to be in the finished product?

If you intend just to paint over the whole mini, so none of the pre-exisiting paint will show (or like 90% of it) just not strip/prime, it would be fine. What you start with is not a head start for the finished product, as it’s going to be all replaced.

If you are going to clean up/touch up/refine what’s there, I think that is a little too far away from “primed one color” which should be the baseline.

I’m not loving the blue and yellow vibe but the flesh and the metal on the weapons probably are more touch-up areas. I’ll maybe just entered something else anyway. I’ll see how I go.

It’s kinda more that I need to get these painted soonish.

I think I'm going to paint some Bretonnian Men at Arms this month

though if those don't inspire me, my Old World painting queue shelf has a few more candidates with orcs, beastmen and wood elves all waiting for their turn with the brush

My entry for this month will be Solar Auxilia infantry, painted as a French army from steampunk WW I to accompany my french Sentinel from the "Nice ride" contest. I'm still thinking if they would look better in light blue uniforms, or with the famous red pants from the beginning of the war.

My entry proofpic, was going to buy a lot more looncult units but need to conserve money and so I'll just keep it to this as a standalone.

Besides that I wanted to buy oldworld armies too in the near future so..

Acceptable?

I actually had the blue bits based in Fenris grey but then the blue ink just blued them back up. It’s for a skirmish game rather than an army game so the rest will be all sorts of individual colours.

Fun fact, Dwarfs didn’t actually wear helmets with horns on. That was just something GW did to give them more character.

That’s basically a full repaint. You are fine.

Built these guys for the last edition of KT. Never got around to painting them. Probably not going to get all 5 done, as I still need to finish last month’s terminators and am going to be AFK for a week. We’ll see how many I can get through.

I've got a load of female AoS troops I'm jamming together from all factions to form a warband (might even write a story about them), so here's some proof pics for ones I might enter...

I'm in, of course, but I haven't decided what to enter. I want to lean into the theme, and paint up something that just sort of trudges along. I'll try to find some time to dig through the backlog and find something appropriate.

Now showing various models from the previously adandoned projects!

Painting total as of 3429/2024: 56 plus a Deva King statue
Painting total as of 12/31/2024: 107 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain and two walkers and a quad mech and five giants

Oh btw rules say no more than 5 models but I remeber you stretching that up before? Shouldn't that be another number now? Or are we back to max 5?
I just noticed that looncourt has 7 models -_-
Should I cut a few from the entry or are modelcounts no longer relevant?

Kind regards.
(already got one grot gnome done.

All entries should be 5 models. I assume that if people are paining more then that they are going to choose the best 5 for the final entry.

The model cap is one we occasionally waive. And little accessories (like mascots or teleport homers and the like) while technically another model get a free pass.

In that case I'll only enter the ones actually on foot, cutting the squigrider and the one composed of two grots standing on top of eachother as one of them technically isn't on foot when being carried by another either.

I want to always stay as close to the theme as possible.

Hey all, my entry for this month is going to be one of these dudes I just finished building last night.

Sadly being a giant there is a lack of transport options available and these guys have to walk everywhere

I’ll be tackling the ‘Royal Decapitator’ from Flesh Eater Courts this month…

Keeping it simple as time is limited but not planning to miss any more submissions this year so choosing models I have a good shot at completing while I’m busy is the way forward me thinks…

Finally figured out something for this month. I'll paint my very first Old World model, a Tomb King on foot. Proof:

I plan to use a combination of Contrast and traditional paints for this guy. He shouldn't be too hard to do.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700
