Hi all,
I've been working on my warhound titans and starter set contents for LI. While I haven't expanded the Marine Contingent, I have added several infantry and support weapon sprues to my Auxilia army. After building and painting up the Warhound titans, I was wondering about what to purchase next.
Essentially, I'm torn between getting some planes (Avengers simply because they look amazing and I love the models), a Reaper Titan (Legio Xestobiax, so to stay moderately fluffy no warlord titans) or a box of Leman Russ tanks.
To be honest I cannot find it in me to drop the amount of money being asked to get the superheavies for a game that I haven't even played once yet. But I figure if I get the titan then, theoretically, I could play Titanicus if I wanted to. I would appreciate the thoughts of people who have played and could give feedback on the general progression.

You’ve asked at an opportune time.
The book that went up for pre-order tomorrow includes rules and lists for All Titan and All Knight lists.
So if you’ve got an existing AT force? You now have an existing LI force.

I don't have an existing AT force - just the two warhounds from the LI Starter Set that had both auxilia and marines. So I'm trying to round that out I suppose. I also saw there's a bigger box set with a reaver, two warhounds, and a warlord, but that's probably more money than I'm willing to drop unless someone convinces me otherwise (the savings are impressive though)

Ahh, ok.
Probs worth grabbing the book when it comes out. Reliable info is Mechanicum can field Titans in certain formations without having to ally in. Everyone else has a solid 30% Ally Cap, which heavily restricts access to Titans.

Play first. A demo game or whatever.
I found the game extremelly bad with awful mechanics and total lack of balance.
Luckily I can use the minis for epic Armageddon.

If you're willing to double dip into a game system alongside LI, Titanicus is the better game and has a wicked starter set with all the gubbins needed to play it at great value for money. The Reavers and Warhounds you get will give you a very fun playable 1750pts for Titanicus and the Knights, while expensive in LI, can be a fun counter charge tool. The LI titan formations have the same names as the AT ones, but they do not offer any extra rules to fit the formation naming conventions. I'd only do this if you like titans though, as for LI, they're not the most efficient means of spending allies points (with the exception of the Warmaster, and maybe the Warbringer).
For the rest of your Solar Auxilia force, I recommend lightnings or marauder bombers although I haven't looked at avengers because I don't own them. Planes sit in a really nice space in the game and can slot into all (nearly all?) formations. Leman Russ tanks are fun, but the big cannon you get in the core box is still the best. Baneblades and the other super heavies are a lot of fun, but I'd only recommend 3-5 of them.

A single Melta-Reaver kit with 20% discount is worth doing. You'll have a minimum Venator light maniple if you do want to join a game of AT, and also a more sensible Titan force for LI at just over 1K points.
Another vote for the AT starter set as it's GW's best wargame by far, with the only down side being that the Knights were an after thought. Even so, the two included Cerastus have turned out to be a worthy addition to the game's core titans.
Best of luck whatever you decide to go with.

Titanicus is fantastic, definitely worth getting into. If you're thinking about getting a reaver anyway the AT starter set is really worth looking at, it's good value for the models - plus gives you the rulebook, dice, etc to give Titanicus a go too.

Also, whilst we don’t and can’t know for certain?
If you like Titans, and fancy Titanicus? I’d suggest buying in now, whilst we know it’s all still available.
I really don’t want or mean to Doom Monger, but better safe than sorry. Spesh if it is retired, we can expect second hand prices to increase.
Well crap. I think I just sold myself on Titanicus.
