I caught this accidentally on youtube... I am rather excited on this one. Its a massive move to capture the original art style and design. The stories have always been great in SAC and the other series, but the latest full 3D rendered style is a bit sterile in some ways. This looks awesome.

Hopefully this has a much more manga personality Major. It would be fun to see a more comedic take on her when nigh on every adaptation has her 99% serious business.
Will this one finally be worthy of the original mangas Shirow-sama created all those years ago?
Bar one, all the GITS adaptations released so far (including the piss-poor live action movie) have been grave disappointments to me. Remember that GITS Playstation game, and the training missions, Motoko slurping disappointedly her milkshake if you didn't nail it? Thats how I've felt about the stuff released so far, big fat SLURRRRP. (check the video at 2:03 https://youtu.be/ulmxeT9GGuU for context)
The original mangas were these detective stories with political dimensions, and most of the televised stuff has just been action movie bolter-mecha-pron with shallow characters and no sense of humour. I hope this time, they manage to capture the original feel like that one animation series did (those guys at least "got" the feel somehwere into the ballpark).
Illustration style in the trailer makes me think the aesthetics at least are looking more on point than usual.

My first introduction to Ghost in the Shell (without realising it) was the old PS1 demo where you ran around as a tachikoma
Fastfoward and it was then the films and SAC series. I've actually finally got the Manga around here somewhere and really need to commit to reading it.
It is interesting that the films spawned several separate series that almost but not quite link together or at least have a very similar take on characters (and even voice actors).
Honestly whilst I'm not the biggest fan of reboots - I'm really down for this one being a potentially faithful to source reimagining.

Can't agree when it comes to SAC. Absolutely wonderful adaptation. Most others vary quite a bit.
I still remember Ghost in the Shell doing the rounds on VHS Manga...ah, the good'ol days. I felt that the live action version was pretty decent for what it was and critics were being a bit snobby about how wonderful the mid-90s movie was( I know Gandalf...I was there 31 years ago... ). It was at least a more sensible adaptation of an anime film than Battle Angel Alita which...felt too awkward. As far as hollywood live action adaptations are concerned, Bubblegum Crisis or even The Dirty Pair would be more compatible with the western markets.
S.A.C was good! Not exactly like the manga, but the stories were surprisingly good and even brought a lot of heart. The one where a spider-tank ventures too close to a rural area had a tragically beautiful ending. The Tachikomas had a few lovely episodes as well, given that they're mini-tanks with a child's brain.
I still have my copy of the PS1 game! A bit awkward sometimes but a great 3D blaster, with cutscenes and music that never fail to make me smile....
"Hey, Batou! Look and see what I have - the new rookie gave me all these funny little stickers!"
Battle Angel Alita live action was madness. Trying to cram almost the entire manga and every twist and major event into a single film was just a total failure on story pacing. A huge shame because the anime showed them how the could have done just the first part and left the story open for sequels.
Instead they tried to mash it all into one and it ends up feeling hollowed out.

Battle Angel Alita should have been a TV series. The movie indeed tried to stuff too much into the story, and it ended badly.
It appears that Mantic are doing a tie-in wargame. Colour me interested. No need for overly heavy massive armies. Keep it slow I and small and police-actiony. I’m wonder if it will use the Halo rule set.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Note I’m assuming it’s a wargame. Could be an rpg or something else.

It would be extremely difficult to surpass the 1995 movie.
The art was incredible, but more importantly, the English VA for Motoko Kusanagi was perfect.
The only way we can ever solve anything is to look in the mirror and find no enemy
One thing that makes the first two films stand out (even if the story in the second is good but not as solid) is that they are both works of art. The fact that they each have an 8min or so pure animation and music "silent stortelling" part right in the middle really highlights that fact.
It's something you don't get in many films at all.

I seem to have a memory of some Appleseed animation, which was actually semi-faihtful to the original graphic novels.. cant remember whic one it was, sadly..

I read yesterday the sequel is in preproduction.
