Hopefully it'll be re-added for the official 1.2 release.

Adding a whole new extra biome changes the biome generation algorithm. This means that the same seed used in 1.1 and 1.2 will look completely different.

They are disabling the 1.2 biome algorithm for worlds generated in 1.1 and earlier to maintain backwards compatibility.

This can be bypassed to force jungles to appear in new chunks, but doing so causes biome weather to shift to the new algorithm, which means that it no longer matches the already generated biomes. What this means is you get it raining or snowing in the desert and no snow in the snow biomes etc. You also end up with the giant walls between 1.1 chunks and 1.2 chunks. (It's like the 1.7-1.8 update all over again).

If we leave things as is and update to 1.2 without bypassing the backwards compatibility check, the world continues to be generated as if it was 1.1, no jungles, but everything else is still correct and new chunks come in smoothly (no giant walls). You also get the non-jungle specific new stuff like climbable vines etc etc.

The other option is to nuke the world again, but I think it's been too soon since the last reset. I would rather wait and see if they do even more new biome changes and save it all up for one more giant reset before we do something as drastic as that.

I say we stick with the plain update to 1.2 when it arrives (no naturally spawning jungles, sorry). The jungle items will be available to me in creative mode. This includes Ocelot eggs and in addition it is even possible to grow the giant jungle trees using four jungle saplings. I will probably make some "mini-Jungles" here and there, like how LegoBurner used to make the "mini-Nethers" before the nether was available in Multiplayer. I can even throw in some Ocelots...

The latter would be fine by me for now, waiting at least another update before we bother with saving everything again.

Yeh I guess for now you could just give people an Ocelot or two and wait out the other changes before resetting the world. Would suck to go ahead and change it, then they change the algorithm again or something.

Not to mention it was likely a PitA for you to copy across all the structures in the first place.

I have a bit of obby, about half a stack.

Generally you need 10 to make a bare minimum portal, 14 to make a full portal (no functional difference, just looks better).

I have obsidian but I'm planning on using it.

I once tried a Portal Tunnel. Unfortunately you can't light portals right next to each other, so it was only Portal every other block.

GENERATION 8: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

Not sure what a portal tunnel would be like. I assume it would cause somewhat of an issue.

I was doing it as a proof of concept- in another server (that had some Griefer problems- I think they were more due to permissions mods than prevented by them) I was making a huge pyramid and obelisk out of solid sandstone (I actually completed the pyramid, but wasn't satisfied with the Obby. They're rather difficult to do properly.). I had a tunnel system with little light in the bottom of it, and I wanted one of the tunnels to transport anyone walking down it into the Nether, without them having to stop.

If you were to reset now, just that we'd almost finished the pit, I'd probably have to murder you...
That said, in the event of a new world, I'd love my old house back from the old server. It took a double creeper attack and got completely obliterated...

If you did reset, I wouldn't mind

I also wouldn't mind if you didn't, seeming you have access to the eggs and trees

RIP Derpy the dog. Despite being told to sit he decided the best way to fight creepers wasn't simply to run at them. He decided the best course of action was to first jump into the fireplace then run at the creeper while on fire. Unfortunately I didn't manage a screenshot as all I really got to see of it was a flaming wolf run past as I heard a hiss. Sort of unexpected while fishing.

So Ocelot's are a fething waste of time. They don't "attack hostile mobs", they don't follow the player "as strictly as wolves", and they lack any "sit or stay" commands. Wtf?

Give me sharks notch. I want sharks.

So what's the point of taming them? I just spent a bit fishing to prepare for them.

I guess people think theyre cute or something. Itd be great if they caught chickens and brought them back to you. Or at least did something useful.

Well my wolves do spend their entirety of life under my command sitting around the house due to their sheer stupidity. But I figured it'd at least follow you around and just use the wolf AI.

well reading the MC wiki it seems like they're even more pointless than wolves. They would just depress you after they follow you around for a while and then get killed by mobs haha

Cats are pretty much purely for people that want a cat as a pet rather than a dog.

If you want a hand with making a mini-jungle give me a shout dark, I'd be happy to help.

Wouldn't it essentially just be the swamp with a little less water around?

It's a totally new biome.

Just finished hollowing out a 11x5x11 (W/H/L) space for my indoor wheat farm. Time for digging and water placement.

Sure, but obviously it won't be till 1.2 appears.

Jungles have leaf blocks all over the floor (one piece of wood here and there to keep the leaves in place) for a sort of underbrush. They have vines *every*where and a mix of oak, jungle and giant jungle trees. Sheep regularly spawn trapped inside the underbrush.

This might be a bug in the snapshot but I noticed I had to cut down about 8 jungle trees just to get 4 jungle tree saplings. Deforestation FTW.

I also noticed deserts seem to have much higher hills/dunes? But it could have just been the seed I tried (Tarzan).

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The Tarzan seed doesn't spawn in a jungle btw, I had to explore a bit and use a boat. Whilst being shot by the new skelly AI hiding in caves to avoid sunlight. :-D

I hope they didn't update the Blaze AI. I've managed to set up the Blaze spawner in our nether fort so that we can shoot them without being shot back and get easy xp and easy blaze rods.

I'm so glad I saved my blaze rods too, cause fire charges look epic.

IME it's much easier to simply set up a small area where blazes can spawn and hit them with your sword.

I thought leaves disappearing was removed in one of the beta releases?

nope, the leaves thing is still here

which is great, in mt opinion, because it leaves me less work when I cut trees down!

He means leaves you manually place, not leaves which have naturally spawned.

Oh we did that too, but the way it's set up you don't need to do anthing but shoot in..
