I am actually trying my best to keep these visually different from my World Eaters, to be honest. Since both are gladiators, it would be way too easy to end up with models that are basically World Eaters wearing yellow armour, and I don't want these latest models to read as chaotic, but rather as underhive rabble.
So a short while later, here's the (mostly finished) mutant overlord:
And here's the group shot of the models I have so far:

Love the gladiators.
If you're looking to grow the theme maybe one of the AoS or Warhammer monsters as an arena beast for them to fight?

Thanks a lot, guys!
@ Kid_Kyoto: A big mutant/arena beast is definitely a fairly likely addition to this group -- I am thinking about maybe doing something based on one of the mutants from the warshrine of chaos kit.
In the meantime, however, here are two slightly less monstrous kitbashes for the gang:
A diminutive mutant with a huge chainsword who'll probably be named "Chopper":
And a former Tech-Priest now serving as medicae/mechanic/leader?! to the former pit slaves and mutants:

Cheers for the feedback, guys! So here's a somewhat more sizeable update on the pit slave/mutant gang -- I actually keep referring to them as "The Road Crew" in the back of my head. Maybe it has something to do with the yellow? Or the healthy dose of vintage Mad Max influences? Or maybe I just like the sound of the words...?
Anyway, here's a look at some of the next models planned for the gang:
First up, while going through my backlog of conversions, I came upon this twist witch doctor I built a while ago:
So far, we've mostly seen former gladiators in the gang, and I'd like to branch out into some more out there character types, so a witch doctor might be a cool fit?
One thing that I definitely want to add to the gang at some point is this:
An old Gorkamorka Pikk-Up that I've had in my bitzbox for quite a while. The original plan was to use it for my Traitor Guard, but it seems far more appropriate in an INQ28/Necromunda setting. Plus it would be a cool asset to have for INQ28 games in general, once painted. So I tweaked the driver a bit, making him look suitably postapocalyptic:
The vehicle itself needs some more bitz and bobs - a bit of additional gear here and there, but nothing too drastic. I think much of the appeal will come from a suitably grimy and weathered paintjob.
Oh, and I also managed to finish Chopper yesterday:
So here are the finished models so far:

Cheers, guys! Glad to hear you like the little guy so much!
DexterKong joked that he would like to have a Chopper t-shirt that he could wear to the gym, so I whipped up a quick design for that
As for the question of hazard stripes, I have consciously moved away from them for this project, both because I didn't want to invite any Iron Warriors associations and because I think the yellow already recalls heavy duty construction machines as it is, so adding hazard stripes on top may just be a bit much...

@ hk1x1: Yeah, that truck no longer really works all that well for Orks, given their boost in size and bulk since the days of Gorkamorka, but it's really rather perfect as a simple vehicle to be used by Imperials and/or Underhive gangs, isn't it? Plus I picked the kit up brand new and for a very good price a while ago -- what's not to love?

Thanks, guys!
So Commissar Molotov's ongoing "Ready your Retinue" event over at the Ammobunker has once again provided me with the perfect excuse to return to an abandoned project. I interpreted the April theme - "Open Up" - a bit more liberally this time around (as in "I am going to open you op to see what's inside") and built a new version of Heretek Genetor Amnon Helix, a recurring villain and bogeyman in the Velsen Sector:
I already had an older version of the character, but it wasn't nearly creepy enough, so I created this new version based on a plastic Dark Eldar Haeminculus. Most of the tweaks I have made to the base model were done to replace the weapons and make the model look slightly less Eldar and more creepy AdMech-style. Oh, and to give credit where credit is due: The idea of using that particular head was nicked from one of Bruticus' wonderful Dark Mechanicus models for House Sinekai.
I will need to add some finishing touches, but I am pretty happy with finally having assembled this guy!
There's also this model, just a very early mockup made with bitz that were just knocking around on my desktop:
He's all kinds of rough right now, of course, but I really like the eclecticism -- maybe he could be some kind of augmented herald for a powerful noble or for my Navigator House?
As always, let me know what you think!

Thanks, man!
So, a small intermission for today: I recently had the chance to pick up a Genestealer Magus and Genestealer Prime from a fello German hobbyist for a very good price, and they arrived today. And while I don't have any definite plans for the models yet, I couldn't help starting to mess around with them for a bit:
The Genestealer Prime is the model everyone will love to convert, and so far I don't have a wholly unique angle on the model, except for the fact that he looks like some kind of troublemaker to me: A recurring heretic, super-criminal or what have you. And since most people seem to be going for an Inquisitorial angle, maybe I'll be turning him into a villain. For now, Ive merely made a very early mock up, using a head that might be an interesting choice (even if it doesn't photograph very well): A rebreather head from the old metal Chaos Terminators:
The real surprise of the day was the Magus, though: My one criticism of GW's new Magus design was about their decision to give him a shouty head, making him look decidedly less sinister and mysterious than the vintage Magus here:
So it was clear to me that the first thing to do with the Magus model was to change the head. And since the Genestealer Prime head was the only option I had for now, I gave it a try...and it ended up working really well, if you ask me:
This is probably just a question of personal taste, but I think the new head recreates much of the vintage model's sinister feeling.
As always, let me know what you think!

Nice, I think both headswaps work really well, but the Magus is greatly improved with a snarling face instead of the shouty one.
Have you given any thought to what sort of colour scheme you'll be using?

Cheers, guys!
@ Dark Apostle 666: Hmm, to be honest, I don't even have a clear plan for a Genestealer cult yet, much less a possible colour scheme. I will say that I would probably use an approach fairly different from GW's standard blue and purple look, in favour of something a bit more visceral and Gigeresque. And the paintjob for the cultists (and Magus) would therefore have to be reverse-engineered from that. But it's all just an early idea for now -- I merely wanted to see whether the headswap on the Magus would work out as well as I had hoped.
So here's another early WIP from the same batch: I bought another Betrayal at Calth Cataphractii Praetor along with the Genestealer models, with a plan to turn him into a true scale Astartes -- an idea I got from a similar conversion by Commissar Molotov:
The model has only been tacked together for now, and the whole backside mainly consists of poster tack That said, I think there's something there worth exploring, and one interesting discovery was how the model's stock arm works really well for the true scale conversion if attached at a different angle.
My idea is for this guy to become the Golden Legion's Chapter Master, but we'll see. Here he is, next to my first true scale Marine:
Even though the bolter pose works fairly well, it does seem too pedestrian a weapon for a chapter master. The finished model will probably be using the huge, ornate sword from the Deathwatch command squad (here's a very quick and dirty Photoshop mockup):
As always, let me know what you think!
