That's just a variation on VPs and also it involves mental arithmatic.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Here's another idea.

When a unit is killed, both players roll D6. The winner gets a KP.

This gives both sides an equal chance to win. It avoids all the imbalances in the current KP system. It encourages players to concentrate on killing tactically important units.

I don't understand for a second how anyone can really think that an army with low KPs has a disadvantage in the other scenarios. So long as your low KP army is also high in rock-hard troops, you get the best of both worlds. And well, there are a few armies that can do that, and a few armies that couldn't in a million years.

Really, there is 0 justification for the current KP rules other than lazyness, and some kind of residual "well, we HAVE to have a mission that's annihilation!" idea that devolved into...VPs require too much math for 12 year olds...anyway make something up, we'll have Gav playtest it with the studio armies...hmm those 5 games seemed pretty close looks like it works great it's IN.

I didn't think it was possible, but this suggestion makes KPs even more pointless.

There is no connection behind effort and reward, and one might as well get points for throwing units away as killing the enemy.

Why not just flip a coin at the start of the game and call it a day?

Oh, wait, we did that already. We called it 3rd Edition...

Well how about my other idea, just make every single model worth a KP.

Simple! No need to keep track of units.

As a Guard player vs. Godzilla, I'd rather we flipped a coin like you suggested previously.

yes we could just wait to the end of the year and see how things go. Its only been a couple of months since the new edition and we shouldnt worry so much. The ard boys scenario kill points worked out well IMO. To those guard players "I killed five squads, what i only get one kill point." worked out great for you guys!

KISS, ya know?

It can still be abused, to a certain extent by running very expensive units and minimizing your choices.

However that usually means low model count, and that usually means you can't compete very well against alot of armies.

The new 'elite' isn't, really.

Thing is, if someone does that to win a Kill Point mission, using your system (which I like, Essentially, it treats elements of the enemy army as you objective) then they scupper themselves well and truly for Objective Games....

The thing to remember? You are meant to pick your army *before* you roll to see what the Victory Conditions will be. Thus, you min-max, and 2/3rds of the time, you've shot yourself in the foot for a pretty minimal advantage the rest of the time.

I think GW will keep KPs as they are and fix the most obviously broken examples when codexes get updated to 5e.

It may need some refining but this is a great idea.

I think somethings can be easily solved...

Skyleap - READ AS BEFORE. add Taking this exarch ability means you cannot assign a kill point to it. (i.e. use it for what is was intended not to break 1 out of 3 games.)

I am now concerned in reverse on the IG.

... I have to assign it to non-troop choices first... hmmm I have to take an HQ so there is one. I think I will multi-purpose 5 guard platoons and assign one to each. (1 KP per force chart) I will assign it all to 1 platoon held in reserve to minimize chances my opponent can kill them all. (1 KP per squad)

Guard lives are cheap and guard die but eating through 275 potential guardsmen to the man to get 5 kill points is darn near impossible.

I would rather see it... You may assign KP to any non-troop choice. You may not assign a second KP to a unit until you have assigned 1 to all non-troops. This makes the 2 10-man nurgle terminator squads and an HQ each worth 2 KP. It also means if you field only troops and 1 HQ ... guess who has a target on his back. I think this will force people to balance lists and control "gaming force charts for KP games alone."

Better off running Baharoth, 3 Swooping hawks, 2 falcons with eldrad fortuning 'em both (and with 85 points of Dire Avengers in each to upgrade them to scoring).
