I've still got all my 2nd ed books, templates, and codeci, so for those interested in playing a game in the north Florida/ south Georgia area, drop me a PM!

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

I really miss the 10 hour games. Boy I loved taking 1 hour to go through the psychic phase!

But I miss Epic more than 2nd Ed or RT.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

Did you play the game with players who didn't speak your language or something? "10 hour games" and "1 Hour psychic turns" screams to me that you simply weren't doing something right. But, that's just a guess.

Things I miss about 2nd ed:

1) Variety. From Movement rates to demons to wargear selection. The game wasn't as genericized as it is now.

2) Sustained Fire dice. Weapons jamming should be a possibility.

3) Grenades that were actually dangerous.

4) Better Mission design.

5) Overwatch. I don't get the comments about Overwatch being a matter of both armies just sitting on Overwatch - it's kinda hard to complete your missions if you did that. Still, there were plenty of ways to make Overwatch less "reliable", if that's an issue.

6) Lack of FOW. I appreciate the FOW, but I also prefer to have a bit more freedom in my army selection.

7) Better cover rules.

8) Save modifiers.

And so on.

Don't get me wrong - I do enjoy 5th ed. But I definitely miss 2nd, and overall, think it was a more characterful and hence fun edition.

I actually miss that sort of morbid, over the top gallows humor the whole thing had. Yeah, it was dark and baroque, and sure I love the 40k universe in its present GRIMDARK form, but 2nd just seemed to take itself less seriously. Maybe that was just the vibe I got.

Honestly though, rules wise, I don't miss much.

You've got the touch!

YEAH!
