QFT.

The only thing worse than taking flak from Mr And-Another-Thing-! is the fact that you're forced into treating him as if they're the most prized human on the planet, or risk losing your job.

A lot of people can't seem to grasp things when they're being spoken to politely down the phone, or with a calm look as their spit (because the gakkers are always the ones that manage to emphasise every single hate-filled word will a fresh volley of saliva) makes its way down your face.

There are only so many times you can have the "I'm sorry, bu-" "AND ANOTHER THING! ..." "We'll try to help you as best we can, bu-" "AND ANOTHER THING ..." conversation before you begin to think Stalin was actually a pretty swell guy compared to the gakface you're speaking at.

I've actually found that maintaining "stern" eye contact while remaining "polite" tends to go a long way in encouraging " customer civility".

Not so easy to do over the phone

Sometimes I just feel like pointing out, pointless thought it might be, that I am in fact 6'3", and as such I very much doubt they would dare speak to me like that, or indeed anyone else, face to face...

Yeah, I could see where phone interaction would be a draw back ...
Like you I have the " big guy" advantage, 6'4" 260LBS (plus I'm covered in tattoos) , so when a customer comes into the shop raising hell..I often get tapped to go "talk" with them.

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

I'm not sure I'm wild about any theory that states that because people were ignorant, and are currently ignorant, they must remain so.

Even in that clip (factual errors aside), it's not like there was massive upheaval because the facts changed.

True but when it comes to intergalactic security like theirs I think the MIB would be justified for their secrecy.

True but there were still controversy and individuals suffering at the hands of mob rule before, during, and arguably after those discoveries happened if you went against the norms of the time.

It is certainly true that grouping has an effect on psychology. There is plenty of testimony regarding the difficulty of undercover police work to support that, and the of course the aforementioned mob rule.

However, these effects aren't necessarily negative. Mob rule and leadership function on essentially the same principles.

True, mob rule was one of the big reasons for the rise of Rome. Generally its got a negative connotation though IIRC.

Just because something is light-hearted doesn't mean it can't have some elements of a deeper truth in it.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

It is a rare person who considers that sentence wholly commutative.

That being said, if you want to speak the truth, then why cloak it in parables?
