Seriously, are Death Company armies that good? I mean, they can't ever take objectives, so aren't you pretty screwed in 2/3rds of your games?

If you table your opponent, objectives don't matter. And at small point games, DC can be scary good.

DC are also hard to wrangle unless they're led by a chaplain. If they don't have one, they'll rage all over the place and get kited by an empty rhino. They're expensive as hell, but people in this thread have good luck with them as deathstars.

Chaplains don't affect rage in the slightest so they still rage all over the place.

I thought chaplains removed rage if they're attached to the unit? They used to anyway.

Nope, Death Company rage all the time now. They're the Khorne Berzerkers of the Imperium!
Of course if you put them in a rhino or razorback, you can control them. At least until they disembark.
I suppose you could put them in a storm raven, too. But on Turn 1 wouldn't they be subject to rage and have to move towards the closest enemy instead of embarking?

That is why you have them in the Stormraven right at the start of the game.

Just wait until they face down their first 150 point gang of death cult assassins. Dead death company everywhere.

You're friends are wrong. BA aren't OP anymore than any other brand new dex is. It has things that work, like DC and Mephiston, things that are not new and have always worked. Arguably DC is harder to use now than it was when the number was random. Since your friends aren't complaining about outflanking Baals, Fast Vindis, or Deep Striking Land Raiders...well they probably just need to figure ot a way to win against you.
I play a lot of doubles (it's more fun) and when someone does silly gak like DSing a deathstar unit I point at it and say "make that go away" Large Blast Templates are a grotsnik.

BA are only OP when compared to basic Space Marines. Let's see...
5 Tac Marines in a LasPlas Razorback costs 165 points. BA can purchase this for 10 points less with Assault Marines, and it's fast which is a HUGE benefit.
BA Devastators are cheaper.
BA have better dreads.
The truth is, if Codex Blood Angels gave them *different* gear, as opposed to everything in Codex Space Marines, only better and cheaper, then it wouldn't be an issue. The fact is, competitively, there is literally zero reason to run Space Marines out of Codex Space Marines unless you're doing a Vulkan army or a Khan biker army, neither of which are top tier.

Why would a Blood angels player put assault marines into a razorback in the first place if they get free jump packs? That's not a very good example.
How much do regular SM devastators cost, because ours are 90 starter then +16 for every guy and SW's does it better with a free extra heavy weapons guy
Yes, they are, but it's all in the variants so dont expect a DCD to kill a tank, and don't expect a Furioso to take out a squad, neither a librarian but he can kill the tank. Maybe our multiple dreadnaughts are the substitution for SM multiple leaders?
I hear SM can effectively spam missile launchers to be competitive, or is that someone else?

Because you get a scoring unit that can take 2 meltaguns as well as a good shooty vehicle that protects them.

It's actually an excellent example, because if you had read your codex you would see that Assault Squads can trade their jump packs for a 35 point rebate on a transport. Razorbacks actually make basic Marines competitive. SW does it fairly well. BA does it best as their Razorbacks are fast. A 155 pt unit that can move 12 and fire a lascannon, or 6 and fire a plasma gun AND a lascannon, is way nastier than 5-10 joes with jump packs.

If points were not an issue Codex Marines can put more missile launchers (heavy weapons in general) on the table than SW.

I'd love to meet the guy that unloads a BA Assault Squad out of a RB with two Meltaguns...
