Yeah, apparently Tim Hortons is more popular than McD's in Canada.

Commisar Von Humps wrote:Hey guys, this is more posed towards Americans on the forum, and the question is, Has anyone encountered anybody who feels the mid west and south are backwards and useless? I live in NY and i know many people who feel that way, one of which goes on to declare that the only states worth anything are California, NY, and D.C.(which i went on to explain was not a state....). He says that because to him the entirety of the south and mid west is backwards, Conservative, and stupid. I struggle to try and convince him that places like texas, and all states are all big part of the US and that he is a moron for thinking those three states could survive on their own. He would go on to say his reasoning is because NY, Cali, and D.C. are the only ones tourists want to see. . So fellow Dakka members what do you all think?

I find this funny. The reason I find it funny, is because most Conservative southerns would not mind if California, NY, and DC all left the Union. Also tell your friend, that the South and Midwest is were about 75% of this countrys food is grown. I really don't think New York state could grow enough food for New York City. So, the North needs the South and Midwest alot more than we need or want them.

On Dakka he was Eldanar. In our area, he was Lee. R.I.P., Lee Guthrie.

That show really is excellent, though I didn't watch it much when it first came on.

Well, here in Chicago, we are pretty liberal. Though most of the people I know give roughly zero feths about politics, all of them agree that Republicans are stupid.

Religion has a large impact on all of this, hence the "Bible Belt", its rather pathetic.

D/FW is also more liberal than most of Texas. IIRC, Dallas actually voted for Obama.

Texas

There are quite a few demo people in north texas compared to the other regions (hello gerrymanding! What do you mean you want republican districts?)

Anyways, each state has its..."flaws". Looking past them is how we became a great nation (although since I was born in non Quebec canada, I also have some ill harbor to those idiots who keep wanting to have their own country!)

You do know that at this point almost every state has a Pride Parade, right? That doesn't mean they aren't more conservative (religious and/or political) than other parts of the country. It isn't an all or nothing situation. Even 'Left Coast' California has conservative strongholds in it. States are made up of lots of different groups and while the Bible Belt may not be quite as backwards as it used to be, Kansas is still doing it's best to go back. All that for a joke at Kansas's expense. Because I care.

Considering that conservatism is, in general, about looking to the past through the maintenance of tradition, and the current social order...

Well, yeah. That's what political liberals believe - all conservatives are stupid backwards hicks. Possibly bitterly clinging to their guns and/or religion.

There isn't much possibility to it. That is exactly what they are. Everyone has said that in every post and no one noticed it except you. Bitter, gun clinging conservatives that truly understand what liberals believe know how to read between the lines. They also know how to use political bullet points and recognize the world is made up of only liberal and conservative and that each person in each camp is exemplifies every possible stereotype of attributed to it.

You have to be conservative, you have no choice. It is an all or nothing prospect. If you aren't a stereotype you are doing it wrong.

You appear to have misread my post, or, more likely, are simply trolling. I invite you to read it again in light of your post, paying particular attention to how your comments have no bearing on those that I made.
