I have a couple favourites from my ebay finds.
This one looked like it was made by one guy, then handed off to another who promptly drilled a bunch of "bullet holes" in it, slathered glue decals on the hull, and tacked a golden neked lady on top.
Spoiler:

This whirlwind was obviously mistaken for a clown car and painted accordingly by the brit schoolboy originally made it god knows how long ago.
Spoiler:

I absolutely do not regret picking up the worst ebay can throw at me as long as the price is right. I really do enjoy saving the little guys and I even find little pleasant surprises under all the glue and paint from time to time.

I recently picked up my first dreadnought. It arrived plastic box made of a chopped up gladware and wrapped in a brown paper lunchbag. This one will be fun to fix up.

My first dread. A cheap pick up from ebay. The previous owner decided it needed to be a crab/scorpion.

A few years back I bought an entire 1500 pt Tau army that looked great in the cell phone pics but turned up a broken, thickly painted mess. Here's a sample of one of the Hammerheads.

The Ion Cannon was mounted to the turret with a toothpick! The model was assembled with a minimum of seam cleaning and the individual parts weren't mated correctly when glued. Some of those big seams are typical of the Tau tanks so I can't blame it all on the previous owner.

Anyway, I corrected all the seams with squadron green putty after letting it sit in simple green for a couple weeks (took a week of sanding and buffing the putty and plastic also). The engines were straightened and fixed in place, missing or broken pieces were replaced with spares. Forgeworld parts swapped in for the Ion Cannon. Finally a nice, Tamiya Super Fine primer was applied...that's as far as I've gotten. Mind you, I cleaned and repaired FOUR tanks, all of which looked like this one.

I bought em 5 months ago and I've only almost finished stripping 1. I just don't want to look at them.

Hello,
There is a substanc eI have used (accidently) and found t strips paint and superglue rather quick, it is called Uncure, it is origiinally designed to remove CA types of cement. It may help. However NEVER use it on plastic, it becomes melty gooeyess.

Regards,
Carl

No, spraying three colors on your minis does not count as painted! 5k+

Nope, the MkII whirlwind missile pods just look like that. Below is a picture of how the kit is supposed to look like:
