Oh Vik I thought that you would love this haveing looked throught the oddball thread.

I found this a month or so ago and decided that I wanted one in my army.

So I am going to build a Bridging Tank at some point. It fits perfectly into the game board that I want to make....

Ohhohoho!!! The grand scyme is that it's going to be a city board...

This hive city section has been under attack bombardment for a while and is the last stand spot..

Going to be 2 2'x8' boards with a 2' river running through the middle (for easy mini movement) and only having one real vehical bridge. So one main objective is to hold the bridge...

At one end of the first half there is a Mecanicus Temple sidding the river and italian styled shops crammed into the other with a small park/ graveyard/ courtyard in the middle ish...

While the other side is higher buildings (mostly distroyed by shelling) with another park section..

sounds cool already... when you are back home (?) be sure to share some pics of your sketches... one day i have to make my own board too...hopefully it will be then a trench system...tho a city board would be awsome too...hck you seem to go even for both... specially love the mission objective to the bridge... will give plenty of needs to fight over that!

For sure! No one have have any real amount of back-up with out that bridge...

There will be one or two foot bridges. Althought I think that they'll only really be useful as vantage points against the large bridge..

Thats why I think that the bridging tank would be useful in this senario...

It would give another way across the river...

yup... tho couldn´t it be considered cheating ? i mean against what army will you usually fight on that board...? will they have similar options?

I'm hoping that it might inspire one of my friends to build something. Bridging tanks are just cool as hell...

But the other thing is that once it's down I don't see why they couldn't use the bridge as well?

true...but you get a good headsstart before him...so there is your gain...also i expect you wouldn´t leave a bridge tank stay unprotected?

And before playing with anyone I would have to make sure that they were cool with it being in play since there arn't actually any rules on them for the game. At least not that I'm aware of...

The wolverine is built and fielded in the US Army. It rocks. It is roughly the size of an M1A1 Abrams but it is cool. We also have several real bridge layers from the forties and 60's just sitting around on base here. Would you like some photos?

I would be annoying and be the 3D modeler that I am and ask for as many as you could from as many angles.....

both i think... you have to imagine the extra weight and pull such a pontaloon bridge would bring with it... so you have a counter weight in the tank...at least that is what i think it would work like...

True... But at the same time I kinda like the concrete blocks straped to the back..

That really screams 40k to me...

ok...with the strapped on concrete blocks i am with you! beside thats how cranes work in the real world too so i think that would be convincing...heck...one could make xtra rules for such a detail...like hit it at the straps and the tank collapes...

About the Sentinel scout tanks i think something like this could be cool

But with alot more rivets ofcourse!

And about the bridgelayer...

You could make it a peice of the terrain on the board.. And by that i mean that noone controls it, and noone can kill it.. And the purpose of it is that it moves every turn, and when like 3-4 turns has passed and the bridge that's already there is infested with corpses and exploded tanks the bridgelayer makes a new bridge and, Voila! Now the players have 2 bridges too hold.. That imho seems lika a really cool idea!

PLUS! Why don't you just make an insanely large bridge?

the T 18 would work also as a sentinel stand in just like the renault tank... both share some features i think...

and your idea concerning the bridge sounds quite good! and would be million times easier to build than an actuall working tank witha bridge ontop...

Ok, I will get a bunch of photos this weekend. i think all told we have thirty five armored vehicles, several military boats and four or five bridge layers. Not to mention 2 ton, 2.5 ton, 4 ton and 5 ton trucks that are all apporved for public consumption. I think that the collection of these photos would be a valuable tool for some modelers.....

Nuuu... (I'm in it cause it's creaped and more time consuming....)

I am working out ideas for not only building the model but making it work....

@ DiDDe - I however bow to the double hinged bridge...

I must make that! ...

Maybe even a 3 hinge... Because having a 4 6" folds is more 'realistic' in the game then a foot long tank...

but yeah in essence we are beyond easy...we are here to make our life a misery by making tiny things ourselves that other want to seel us^^ so yep...easy is for others... because we like that special kind of misery that we coined fun^^
