What the pic doesnt reveal is the tight corset waist this thing has.
I think it is the reason why I find it lackluster. This large bulbous steam oven on top of spider legs wouldnt be so bad if it didnt look exactly like that.
By that I mean that it looks like two things slapped together and lacks cohesion between the two.

Can't say I'm a huge fan of the model, but then I'm generally not a big fan of the Cryx line (outside of the bonejacks, which are cool). Having said that, it does look pretty true to the artwork, which also only features two huge tentacles.

I think the assumption was that, as that artwork is of it attacking a ship, that further tentacles were submerged.
As opposed to the Kraken's spindly little legs furiously dogpaddling under the waterline trying to keep it afloat, which was apparently the case

but then there would only be a few feet of water for the boat to be sitting in, even a moored boat (as the one in the preview image was) need deeper water than that or they'll run aground.
Anyway, the model is compatible with the preview image, but the image & name certainly led people to the wrong conclusion about the beast

I am not sure if I like the model, or just the paint. Adding like 6 more little legs would be an improvement, though.

I'm willing to say that the Kraken looks completely phoned in, especially after how amazing the Cryx wraith engine looked.
Maybe it looks better in person, who knows.

Still, a monster of that size with those two tentacles alone could do what
the legendary krakens did, which is fight a whale and/or pull down a ship.
How about the Narwhale as something more appropriate?

I like it, and I'll probably get one.
It feels more like a giant Helldiver to me than a giant crab-jack chassis, but thats fine by me.
I understand the too-few-tentacles complaints, but honestly I'm kind of glad that there's only two. There's already a octopus monster in the Hordes line. If it just looked like a metal octopus/squid, that would have felt more "phoned-in" and "already-done" to me.
The only thing I don't like is the giant necrotite furnace vent across the back. It gives plenty of opportunity for lighting effects, but I feel they could have broken up that space more with something else.

Obviously it's standing on top of another Kraken.
Alternatively, steam and magic, the solution to most issues in the Iron Kingdoms.
Also, "The Narwhale" does not sound evil. No-one is running in terror from "The Narwhale".

I absolutely love the new colossal models, especially the Khador one. I just can not stomach the idea of spending money on a model that makes comparable models from GW look inexpensive. Something I thought had a vanishingly small chance of ever happening.

What foot tall resin robot models does GW put out that are cheaper? That's right none.
Forgeworld makes some dreads that are considerably smaller in resin that cost about 80ish bucks, and make titans that are about twice as large for about twice the price. Kinda makes it seem like they are at exactly the same price point as the competition to me.

I dunno. Ork Stompa makes these things look small, and it's a bit more then half the price. Material doesn't matter, final look does. Contemptor dread is comparable in size, and way less then half the price, even including a pretty good selection of different arms. Same with the Decimator.

What are the dimensions of the Contemptor? Is it larger than a Dreadknight?
There is a superimposed size comparison pic over on Heresy Online that shows a Dreadknight and the Khador Colossal. The Colossal is a quarter to a third again as tall as the DK, and I'd say easily twice as massive. Remember the Colossals are on 120mm bases, not 50mm.
