-"Wait a minute.....who is that Frazz is talking to in the gallery? Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG

Ugh, I really dont understand the love for Felicia day, she only ever plays one type of character, I dont care if all she plays is a geek girl, she is good and brings intelligence to the role, But i hate HOW she plays it, She only ever acts bubbly and misunderstood character, in every role she plays, i hate those characters. HEr chracters is Eureka and supernatural are the same character, just different names.
GC has a homestucker-whatever they call themselves, like costumes, conventions, and stuff.

No, that doesn't help. It is perpetuating the problem.
A very big part of the reason that 'nerdy' hobbies are seen as weird is that so many of the participants of them act embarrassed about them. If you act ashamed of your hobbies, of course people will make fun of them.
Damn right, I display my models and library proudly... though... I kinda get bonus points to social acceptability and public perception for my military background, so it might just be that people are less likely to give me gak cause I am sorta scary...
"Your subculture has underlying issues with women!"
My personal favorite, I wish I had a link to the thread I started with that theme up in Dakka Discussions, it stirred up a hornets nest that is for sure.

Im bigger then most of the people giving me gak, I could crush some of them w/o problem, Im just to nice
I could seriously link up about twenty to thirty of the things listed in here and agree with them wholeheartedly, and I've been a proud Geek for over twenty years.
That's the problem with any kind of stereotype.
On a side note to hotsauceman, really lad, don't hide from it, embrace it, and if someone doesn't want to be a friend because you're into this stuff, then they aren't much of a friend to begin with.
You should see my living room, wall to wall gaming stuff.

"That's not an Ork, its a girl.." - Last words of High General Daran Ul'tharem, battle of Ursha VII.
Two White Horses (Ipswich Town and Denver Broncos Supporter)
Wait, so there's been 4 pages worth of discussion about fake geek girls and NOONE has brought up Penny Arcade?
This is an injustice that must be rectified.
Spoiler just in case Dakka doesn't like (gasp) swearing.
Spoiler:
I got into hot water when I said this. "I really don't see the point in this raspberry pi, by the time I've bought all the peripherals to make the damn thing work, I could have had something a helluva lot better." Apparently that's missing the point.
I'm also dismayed that noone hasn't mentioned the greatest war known to mankind since cyclists started going on roads along with cars.
Apple Vs.... Anything Electronic. Anything.
In the office, the console wars seems to have died down a lot now. - "They're all crap and trying to screw us."
Incidentally, non-acting Felicia Day actually seems kinda scary. I've been watching her on episodes of Tabletop and she really is ultra sneaky. No real surprise though, she basically heads a fully fledged company now with 'Geek and Sundry.'
Of course, along similar lines, Wil Wheaton seems to have nailed down the 'massive jerk nerd' character in his recent acting roles, yet (assuming he isn't dying from the plague at the time) is one of the nicest people on the internet.

The star wars christmas special was a masterpiece of filming, best of the series.
The battle star galactica remake was awesome and the ending totally made sense
What? Are you talking about the 2004-2009 series? I think the majority of nerds would agree on the first part of the sentence, though I don't know about the last bit since I haven't finished the series yet. AFAIK, the original series sucked.
(although apparently this thread is about what not to say in a room full of male nerds, so maybe this is off topic)
Counts when I'm involved. I don't like that expression. It is a silly term. And I'm a guy.
What does that term even mean? I really don't get it.
It is a term used by certain members of the geek/nerd subculture to exclude female geeks who are attractive.
No, I don't entirely know why they would do this, either. But there you go. There's an underlying problem with misogyny in geek culture, and it's sadly a fairly prevalent term.
I'm not so certain. Take Wil Wheaton. You cannot tell me with a straight face that Wil Wheaton is not a "fake geek girl"*.
*The above may constitute a parody of the discussion, myself, or Wil Wheaton.

Spoiler:
The sad part is, I actually more or less agree with this statement.
As a Star Wars fan I would take this further. If IV toVI were made now they would be as gak as the existing prequels. It's just Georges vision.

George is the kind of guy who's ideas deserve to be stolen by other people. because he has great ideas, and then he enters the revision stage and things fall apart because he thinks special effects are the answer to everything.

Start a game of Magic: TG and say, loudly, "Okay, so are we going to play 2500 or 3000 life points?". Then when it's your turn, say loudly, "I'm going to summon this monster and put him in face down position!". Keep going on like that and keep insisting that Magic is an expansion to Yu Gi Oh.
"Halo is the best Sci-Fi franchise ever! It's so deep, well written and realistic!". This'll set 'em off.
"Dead Space 3 was so scary. It was the scariest game I've ever played". Say Amnesia bored you.
"Starcraft 2 is the best Warhammer game ever".
"40k ripped off of gears of war. I mean, Gears of War was the first game to ever feature chainsaws and gore!".
"Pokemon is the best anime I've ever watched. I mean, it was so deep and grabbing!". Substitute Bleach if they are hardcore.
