Hey bob I don't agree with what you say. I'm married with 3 kids. I still train and do martial arts. And I'm still able to take care of the family. Most people can do it if they want it bad enough.

But that's the point; sometimes they cant't. And often it gets even worse because reasonably "fit" people verbally or physically abuse them derisively. A habit lots of gym staffers, and members, have.

And then there's the complete lack of recognition. I managed a gym for a year and worked as a trainer for a year before that. In that time I saw such behavior every day; and that's before I factor in working out in one since the age of 14. The majority of people I worked with waved off criticism as "Lol, fat people." and had no idea how to work with someone who is overweight, has bad genes, and/or injuries.

It was terrible.

Now,if you'll excuse me, I must be off; I have to make an account at Bodybuilding.com. I've noticed when I go to the gym, a lot of the lifters there are actually really, really crappy at Warhammer. One guy just looked at me confused and was asking me how a tank can just drop from orbit onto a planet and drive around. Do you even Blood Angel, bro? I mean, I know there are lots of people who are bad at wargaming, but it seems to me bodybuilders are way, way worse at it then the general population. You know, I make plenty of time to get to the FLGS and make sure I keep my skills up, so really all their excuses are kind of stupid. But I want to hear them anyway.

Yeah theres definitely truth like that. I think part of what I was getting at with starting this thread was trying to see if there were any Wargamers who were really into wargaming, and almost, if not equally, into fitness. It seemed to me that this was a pretty rare occurrence. These, and school, are basically how I spend most of my time. Who needs a girlfriend? (At least not when you are seventeen.)

Ouch, hang in there, the depression at being forced to be inactive is the worst, and with you needing to be active for your work, that's gotta be even worse. All the best and hope you make a good recovery.

yeah its harsh recovering from an injury, basically snapped my knee in two a bit ago, couldnt walk or do anything for months, gained a lot of weight. To be fair, I had also slacked off prior to the injury and going from active feild duty to engineering didnt help, was at about 180ilbs when I was used to being 140.

Took me over a year and a half to get back in shape, mostly because it was so slow to go from crippled-barely walking-walking-light jogs every now and then.

Its really funny though, i had to buy much bigger pants, now they literally fall off me, and the belts cant go small enough where as before they were at maximum girth and still felt tight.

That, and since my knee was the whole issue, Ive been doing mostly core and arm workouts... so now all my shirts dont fit either as I put on a lot of mass in the upper body... my GF actually hates it (she likes skinny guys, not skinny guys with muscles apparently... untill she wants me to move furniture lol)

All in all, lost about 50 ilbs of fat, went from a 38 waist to a 34, gained a decent amount of muscle and self respect back.

honestly, I feel like in wargameing, the only fit players are all the armed forces people... If I see a fit guy playing warhammer or 40k, 9/10 times when I ask they are in the army or something.

Heathen. The proper curl weight is clearly measured in liters, with 1.75 liters being the best option.

I've had a fair share. Too much of a time commitment if your weekends are all warhaming and weeks are all school. Chemistry class isn't much of a date

That's why I said most people. There's always an exception to every rule. And as far as people ridiculing others even though they are trying well I won't comment on that. I can't control adults acting like children.

I powerlift 3 times a week. Everyday is leg day. I love the gym.

I can understand why people don't though, particularly when you consider the attitudes of some gym queens, as dogma pointed out. I mean, if you're walking around thinking everyone thinks you look awesome, it's bound to turn you into a dick, right?

That said, I would encourage everyone to get under the bar. I pretty much eat what ever I want, and I can't keep fat on! I just seem to get bigger, stronger and more muscular, which is a nice feeling. That said, I don't judge anyone who doesn't workout. After all, I didn't start til last year. Working out divides people like Bob Dylan, IMO - the world is divided into two types of people: people who get it and people who don't get it YET.

I have to keep working out with my arms just to keep one of them functional after an injury that was left alone for 2 years. I can't work out with my legs, and am going to be seeing a physio to see if I can with my back. Oh, I'm also a fat bastard.

I don't go to the gym for the weightlifting.

Agree. Lots of vets / former army people seem to be into war gaming and it makes sense for them to be trained as once you are used to having a strong, reliable body, you never want to get back.

I hate the gym. I hate self improvement. I hate contact sports and martial arts and touching other human beings or even being close enough to them to smell their disgusting bodily fermentation.

Aside from that, I'm surrounded by people who have nothing else going for them besides the time they spend in the gym, so the whole thing is quote annoying to me. I suppose I spend about thirty solid minutes a day running and doing light cardio, and it's not hard or annoying to me, but that's all I'm willing to do.
