Lord General Kruger Zonand, hails from the military world of Varlgovin. Born into noble birth, the Zonand name goes back in history with many Generals leading the Imperial Guard into battles. Kruger’s first command came at the Lt Col level, leading his Varlgovin armored division against a Chaos cult uprising in the *records cleansed* world. Kruger had made a blunder in outfitting his troops, fitting his tanks with battlecannons instead of the demolisher cannons needed for urban warfare. To his luck the uprising had raided the local armory and stupidly attacked the armored division outside the city. This lead the higher command to believe Kruger was a tactical genius.
His career is littered with blunders turning into victories through sheer luck or Imperial Guard blood. While Kruger tries his best he is clearly out of his league and believes Terran High Command sent him on this crusade to tarnish his family name and remove him from duty. He has used his influence to pull in troops and lucked into the fact the Wolverines Valiant were already crusading this sector.
Spoiler:
Also looking for everyone to pick a number 1-100, who ever is closest will be granted a gift from Kruger. IF no one is within 10 then I shall grant it to my troops

SO my chunk on the fleet battle, Victory but not so cheap. Spoilered due to size, sorry SGT smudge, your action is not as sucessful.
Spoiler:
T -1 hour
Lord Marshall Karak walked past the cells filled with pitiful humans, criminals and traitors they had captured, all locked up, none spoke and all curled into corners or averted there eyes as he passed, so it should be. Those who looked would suffer, any who spoke would soon learn to hold there tongues.
In a Dark chapel, simple metal grates on the floor and bare stone and metal walls knelt a prisoner at the rooms end, broken, the thief, traitor and now stripped of all rank and power, just another wretched human, one of trillions.
To the sides stood 4 skull helmed chaplains, motionless, calm, waiting as the Marshall entered followed by the Emperors Champion clad in the Armour of Faith and the two handed greatsword of office, saluting the Chaplains present he took his place for the ritual.
A Minute passed, quiet bar the sobs of the prisoner, finaly Chaplain Saladin, Highest Chaplain of the chapter and oldest of them all spoke quietly but with great force.
“you have been condemned a traitor, a heretic and thief, you betrayed your office and your honour. I submit you to face the God Emperors final and highest judgement, may he decide your fate.
Champion, do your duty”
The champion stepped forward, crossing the room in 5 steps he raised the ancient blade silently taking his head and sending red blood pouring down the gutters. All bowed their heads until finally Karak spoke.
“your duty is done, now go to your commands and prepare for battle. May the Emperor bless this campaign and grant us Victory”
T -45 minutes
On the Battle Bridge crew busied themselves and brought all systems online, tracks plotted and targets where being assigned. Karak felt proud, his Brothers where performing their duties perfectly, everything was on time and down below on the torpedo decks and hangers the assault boats and boarding torpedo’s where ready, Marines stood by there stations, Chaplains issuing the blessings and Honours, Sgts gave their orders and the Lord Marshalls Honour guard gathered for war alongside the terminators he would lead personally in battle.
The Sentinal stood still as stone as always, his Power halberd and shield gleaming and blessed.
Another had his great sword ready, a relic and potent weapon indeed.
Next to him the most dangerous of them all, poised like a stalking predator he paced, a great war axe in one hand and sabre strapped to his leg, finally the last one arrived with a shield and great thunder hammer clad in terminator plate, joining the Marshall in his ornate and Ancient Terminator armour, his sword in one hand and great tower shield locked to the other.
“Lord Marhsall i request to join your guard”
Stepping in Chaplain vargos arrived, clad in his armour and menacing skull helm he carried a two handed great sword and jump pack, one of the finest swordsmen, winner of the feast of blades.
“your skill is legendary, i welcome you to my guard, The sentinel will fill you in on our plans and tactics”
**********
On the Ork bridge the enormous kaptain sat on a throne carved from a wrecked leman russ tank, his huge kombi shooter in one hand and power claw slowly twitching as he waited for the fight to begin.
“oi you, ya know ya cowardly mek, if ya want some beaky armour this time ya better earn it, this lot are black beakies, not dem cowardly blue one this lot know how to fight proppa, choppa to choppa, none of that shooter malarkey, your going first ya here”
surrounded by his 9 foot tall nobz, he stepped down, huge metal boots sounding like thunder, come on ladz, yua know me, i always get us a good fight, follow me and we show them what a real ork looks nice n close up.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!
*************
The two fleets closed quicky, the fastest ork ships where soon turned to hulks by the Emperors Vengeance and its strike cruisers, bombardment cannons sending vast shells that caused the crude ork ships to glow long after there crews were dead. Burning wrecks, scrap metal.
The real fight would begin soon when they duelled the cruisers that followed, vast mass’s of crude armour and guns. A fleet of steel mazes, filled with orks, gretchin and all manner of beasts and savage creatures. A real challenge to even most skilled boarding force.
Big guns duelled as shells the size of buildings slammed home on both sides, shields battered, metal tore and the ships blasted hell out of each other closing to boarding range, BlackSword taking dozens of hits, shields gone its armour was wrent in several places and great tears torn deep into its hull but its cannons fury turned the attacker into a flaming hulk, explosions tearing from stren to aft as magazines detonated.
Emperors Vengeance duelled 4, its shields still holding and cannons reaping a heavy toll but ork torpedo’s hit home sending thousands of greenskins pouring aboard the starboard hangers, Deathkorps surged forward flamers burning both Kreig and greenskin in a savage pyre as several squads of marines joined the fight bolters roaring, swords clashing and driving them back lead by a chaplain shouting curses and reinforcing the Brothers morale as they drove the boarders back.
Ork ships burned savagely, the Black Sword was repelling boarders and Devine light took postion to Emperors Vengeance starboard protecting its weaker flank as they charged to board the great flagship and take its captains head.
Boarding torpedo’s and assault boats slammed home, first the auto guns shreaded anything that moved before the Marshall and his boarding party charged into the hanger, slaughtering the orks busying around crude planes and goliath battles as Marine ceramite met ork muscle in brutal hand to hand combat. Deeper in its maze like hull the Terminaitors headed to the engines and magazines to rig melta charges, as the Marshall and Honour guard battled down the ramshackle corridors to the bridge, finaly meeting the warboss in combat.
The bridge was a mass of random junk, ammunition, tropheys, guns and crude controls, as the two titanic forces met, shields slammed, limbs flew and finaly it came down to one on one, the Honour guard stepped back, one of there number slain, taking a blow aimed at his lord, duty done.
the two circled, “OI, come on and fight beakie, i want a new shiny helmet to put on me rack, unless ya a coward”
Silently the Marshall replied as sword met claw, shield slammed into its chest knocking it backwards and deflecting a storm of massive rounds from the crude firearm, seeing the threat Karak sliced the magazine in two, crude ammunition exploding blasting half the Orks arm away in the process.
Enraged again the beast charged, this time he had his opening, taking the beasts hit and reeling he caught its weakness, a gap in the crude armour, where the plate was damaged slicing its head clean off and causing the xeno corpse to the floor with a crash like a tank exploded.
“Bring back Brother Santord home, do not let his corpse be defiled by the savages, we retreat and blow the charges, gather any information you see and fall back”
from the Assult boat they watched as explosions tore the huge cruiser apart, separating into 3 parts and drifiting in space afalame, glowing in the darkness of the void.
Victory was not cheap, 21 Brothers dead, 54 wounded and Black Sword was damaged, Emperors Vengeance required its hangers purging of spores and corpse. Though 23 greenskin ships destroyed, warboss slain and one less enemy fleet to worry about.
Marshall Karak got on the Vox, “Brother SGT Tangir, pass on our success to HQ, get repair crews on the double and find out who we lost. Have them Honoured and placed among the great vaults until we can place them the Eternal Crusaders sacred halls of Honour. “
TOHQ FROM LORD MARSHALL KARAK

A small box sat before Captain Aurelius, his head to swimming from the losses of his brothers on Chormi. It smelled of deep dark wood and its color matched what his nose told him. No more than the size of a backpack it concerned the Captain he did not know how it got there or who had put it on his desk. Aurelius took to giant steps forward and put his hand above it. He hesitated, something didn’t feel right. Being a man with no fear, he yanked it open.
Inside was a letter.
“Honor Captain Aurelius, I am sorry for your losses in persecuting the Xenos threat in our Holy Crusade. I have sent records of your deeds to High Terra. Along with reinforcements from Strike Force Fury I hope you find this gift able to help you in the coming battles.”
Below the letter lay an ornate Gravitation pistol. Wreathed in gold and silver it shimmered in the box. Aurelius could smell the holy oils it had been blessed with and beside it lay the scrolls and purity seals. Aurelius smiled to himself, how the General had come across such an advanced weapon he was unsure but the General knew how to play the political game. If an astartes actually played it.

Headed back to HQ at fast warp, ready repair station 12 Bravo and 17 alpha.

Aurelius, reporting.
Emperor forgive me. My boarding assault failed you. Honour to the Black Templars, for their timely aid and assistance.
We claimed the lives of 3 Cruiser-class vessels personally, and countless small frigates and their crews.
Imperial losses number around 5 Cruiser-class vessels and 9 Frigates and their crews and resources, 2156 Navy Personnel from other ships, and 22% casualties from Strikeforce Praetoria.
May the Emperor smile on you, my Lord.
Spoiler:
--T-Minus 1 hour before Mogrok's Exterminatus--
"Captain Aurelius, Command has sent you a package." Legate Hyperion announced as he entered Aurelius' personal chamber. "It'll arrive in about 4 hours. Do you wish to postpone the boarding action?"
Aurelius glanced up from his sector map. His skin seemed drawn, paler than since Hyperion had last seen it. He suspected it wasn't from the reconstructive surgery the Acting-Captain had endured after the Sack of Chormi. The skin graft had bonded well, leaving only a slight lump where the flesh and muscle had been burned away. No, Hyperion realised, it was the deaths of the four Ultramarines of Strikeforce Praetoria. Their unavoidable deaths had weighed down heavily on the fresh commander, despite Lord Calgar's insistence otherwise.
"No, Legate. We must strike now, whilst we have the advantage. We can't let them get down to Mogrok. Ready the fleet and strikeforce now, if you please."
"Of course, Captain, Cou-"
"Acting-Captain." The emphasis on the first word was unmistakable.
"Indeed. My apologies. Courage and Honour."
"Courage and Honour."
--T-Minus 3 minutes before Mogrok's Exterminatus-- Aurelius looked over his honour guard again, this time unhooded by his now-ruined battle helm. Their heads were bowed, but their iron grips on their weapons betrayed their readiness. The last time Aurelius led an assault via drop pod, it had resulted in victory at high cost. The Acting-Captain only hoped this time would be different. His grip tightened on his sword and shield, making one last prayer to Guilliman and the Emperor.
"++Captain, we're in range. Permission to begin bombardment?++" Commander Vandis relayed over the vox. The Valin's Revenge was accompanied by a small squadron of cruisers from the local battlefleet, prepared to rain fiery death on the ork ships. Meanwhile, Strikeforce Praetoria would board the commanding vessel, identified as "Da Thundablitza". At least, that was the plan. All it took was one word.
"Begin, brother."
--T-Plus 10 minutes after Mogrok's Exterminatus-- Blood dripped off of Aurelius' relic blade. He breathed hard, feeling his open wounds rapidly clotting. Grunting, he pushed the decapitated Nob Boss' kneeling corpse down with a ceramite boot. It's thick, bestial blood seeped through the decking. The assault had been a disaster.
Emperor knew how, but according to fleet reports, someone had performed Exterminatus against Mogrok. The rocky planet had ripped into the greenskin fleet and disrupted his boarding party, the drop pods flung through the oncoming debris. The drop pods had slammed into different parts of the battleship, and were now fighting individual battles through the ork infested hull of "Da Thundablitza". None of his men from the Second Company had lost men, although Tactical Squad Vorolanus was dangerously low on ammunition and Assault Squad Ixion and Tactical Squads Solinus and Vorolanus had sustained many serious injuries amongst their men. No, it wasn't their problems that weighed so heavily on him.
It was far worse.
Somehow, Vanguard Veteran Squad Thracian had found itself in the ork commander's bridge. Aurelius had no doubt that the elite squad of veteran Astartes had taken their toll on the warboss's command cadre, possibly the brute itself, but there was no hiding from the fact. The squad were dead. Aurelius' other two veteran squads, Terminator Squad Vitruvilus and Sternguard Squad Demetrius, were fighting through the bowels of the ship alongside Aurelius and his retinue. Their demise hurt Aurelius more than any ork blade ever could. Those were his brothers - Thracian and Aurelius had served together in the same taskforce that cleansed Thrax of it's daemonic denizens. Even now, he saw his grinning face, his slicked blonde hair. Gone. Defiled.
The bombardments still rattled through the hull. Reports from the fleet were dire. The ork armada had somehow weathered the rippling first volleys of the Imperial warships, only losing a few small frigates. Not for the first, and certainly not the last time, Aurelius cursed the manic ingenuity and resilience of the greenskins. In fact, so much damage had been taken that aid had to be called in, originating from Strike Force Hammer. They were meant to have arrived several minutes ago. No sign. No vox. Nothing at all.
Gunfire echoed down from the corridor, flashing brightly past a corner.
"Sons of Ultramar, with me!" Aurelius yelled, charging ahead, rounding the corner. He couldn't see the orks' attackers through the swathe of greenskins between them, but that didn't stop the captain. His men descended on the distracted horde, rending and tearing through flesh with every shot and swing. The engagement was over in seconds. Along the corridor stood proud warriors clad in black power armour. Their white shoulder pads bore a resplendent cross, now anointed liberally in vermillion blood.
"Black Templars. We did not seek to find you here." Aurelius called out.
"Nor we you, Acting-Captain. We feared you dead."
Aurelius sheathed his blade sharply, indignantly.
"Well, I am sorry to disappoint you. Come, let us avenge my dead and slay this Warboss whilst we still can!"
"Unnecessary, Acting-Captain. Our host has seen to that. Don't worry, your dead have been evacuated and taken to the "Devine Light" to await your return. The Warboss lies dead, and his ship is mined, ready to explode. We're here to extract you and your men."
Hadris Aurelius stood speechless. He had no words left to express his shock, his relief, his... anger. Anger that his men had bled and died, all for nothing, and for the fething Templars to come and take the credit. Instantly, the heretical thoughts were banished, crushed away. It served no place here. Another time, perhaps, Aurelius thought.
"Very well, Templar." the Acting-Captain spat. "Do as you must."

To all crusade forces, we have had success and failures in our initial foray into the Charadon sector. The center sector and Strike Force Hammer have defeated Ork fleets and have established control on a few worlds. In fact pushing farther than anticipated, Lord Marshall Karak and his forces have shown much honor. Strike Force Hammer will push further into the center, expecting to see large amounts of ground forces and dug in positions. Little human civilization if expected to be found in this area.
On the Western front we have slowly stalled, Strike force Praetoria and the 2nd Company of Wolverines Valiant face difficult tasks. While taking Chormi and attacking Ork fleets they have suffered horrible losses. With the help guidance of the Emperor, Strike Force Hammer has helped secure the Western front and avoided a bulge in our lines. I am tasking strike force Fury to help bolster this front. I am also sending the Wolverines Valiant 3rd and 7th Company to ensure success. We must press on in this sector, heavy ork armadas are expected to be found in this area along with civilian populations.
The Eastern front has seen little resistance and continues on in the persecution of the Orks while being on the lookout for Traitor marines. The 121st will be tasked to garrison the civilian populations in this area, bringing forth any man worthy to fight into our reinforcements.
The 5th Company of Wolverines Valiant are tasked with persecuting the destruction of the Chaos cult taint found on the planets. Remaining companies are on call for reinforcements and will harass the center sector until needed.
Mogrok is finally behind us, we are now free to release forces from this area and use to push further into the Charadon sector. Again we will take on any reinforcements, if a sector finds itself needing more troops I shall raise the tithe again for imperial troops, they will be untested sadly.

Kaptin Grinbad was in a rage throwing anything and anyone he could find. He yelled at his inner circle. "How da Zog could dis have happened, First dat git Lud goes rogue, Den Mogrok blows up along wif all da gitz dat were supposed to pay us, Now all those other stupid Kaptinz have gone off on a suicide mission to go fight da umies head on". The ork removed his large pirate hat and rubbed his bald head "Somone give me some good news Now!".
Grinbad's first mate Krem BootBlazer stepped forward "We did take some serious losses including Zed, Togg, and BrainBreka along wif our Stompa, about 42,000 of ork boyz..." Grinbad shouted interrupting his first mate "I know what we Zoggin lost, tell me some good news". The first mate gulped down his fear,"but, but after the fallout on Mogrok I've found 5 Krozas and 2 Dakka Gun boats that have pledged themselves to our fleet along wif der various surviving forces. Dat brings our fleet to 6 Krozas and 3 Dakka gun boats, along wif a zog load of Fightas and Landas. Wif deez additional forces I believe we ought to make up fer most of what we lost on Mogrok. Kaptin I advise we cut our losses and head fer.." at that moment red lights and sirens began to wail on the bridge. Gadnuk spoke "Kaptin I've detected somefing in da Stompa bay" Grinbad shouted "Good I could use a fight, Gadnuk fetch yer Gutrippas and meet me in da bay." Gadnuk replied with a aye aye and ran to collect his team of Kommandos.
As Grinbad entered the large vehicle bay designed to hold a maximum of four stompas he was puzzled by what ge saw, a glowing blue tear floating in the center of da room. The tear flashed and flickered for a few more seconds and than exploded into a blinding light, Grinbad thought the blast had killed him but when his vision returned he saw his Stompa along with at least a thousand of the boyz he thought he lost on Mogrok. Atop the Stompa was Big Mek BrainBreka and at the center was Warphead Zed KlockWog glowing blue and steaming.
Grinbad ran to meet the weirdboy
"I thought you died when Mogrok exploded." Zed was tired and barely able to speak "Boss, we thought Mogrok was where we had to do the ritual but wez were wrong." The Warboss looked confused "Da zog you talkin about dey said Mogrok wuz where da fing was hidden". Zed laughed and coughed up blood "I had a vision when I went into dose ruins on Mogrok. On da wall was a great icon and when I touched it mork himself spoke to me. He showed me dat dere iz four different things we need to open da doors to the vault." Grinbad seemed displeased at the news "A vault, how's a Zoggin vault gonna help us stomp da umies". The ork coughed up more blood "Mork showed me da vault has everyfing anyone can evah want, he showed me mountains of teef, Dakka so powerful it'd make entire worlds tremble, Ships, armor, you name it da vault has it." Grinbad seemed intrigued at this prospect "all right let's say we were to go for dis vault what would we need to open it" the weirdboy groaned "Four different pieces of power, da first iz da box dat traitor Lud haz. The ork passed out and dropped the three eye skull at Grinbad's feet. The ork bellowed "someone get da dok". He than picked up the skull and said "Well perhaps all isn't lost than.

Lord Marshall Karak stepped off his Thunderhawk into the cavenous docking bay of the Starfort that the Lord General was operating from, ships busied and ground crews dodged dozens of craft going to the various ships of the fleet in orbit.
Along side him stood the Sentinal, Chaplain Vargos and High Chaplain Saladin respectfully took there place a few steps behind there lord as the group briskly strode to the doors.
up at the ornate and overly decorated command centre finaly they met the General stood with a group of officers as a sharply dressed crewman distributed Amsac to the officers.
"greetings my lords, welcome to the Starfort, Amsac or other refreshments required? "
"no they are not, i have come to relay somthing we could not trust to the vox. Chaplain Saladin if you are ready"
" i am Lord Marshall, Many reports of ill dreams, dark omans and images have come in, the reports all matched in some degree, A black Skull with 3 eyes, a Broken sword, a key and a box, plain of metal. these artifacts we believe relate to some form of ritual. Chaos, Old ones. or Dark age of Technology we do not know. all i know is this, trouble is coming."
The general was surprised, he could find a way out of anything yet this stumped him. "thankyou, i am most disturbed by this news, your information will be put to good use"
Silently the 4 Marines walked out, Space marines he thought, impossible to guess, suspicious Templars but such news he could not dismiss out of hand. "LT Archer, inform the Navigator, the highest priest you can find and THEM......

Sent to Imperial Forces, Beta strength, Alpha Security
Lord Commander Jeremiah it is good to have you in action again. Your family name brings you great honor and history. As already informed by acting Captain Aurelius you shall strengthen his Ultramarines for the time being. I am asking that you and the Ultramarines take the rear guard at the time being and insure our supply route stay stable and flowing. I ask your Imperial Guard Regiments to make land fall throughout the 20 planets we have conquered and do general occupation force work. Also be on the lookout for any source of heresy as it has been spotted in our sector.
I am reassigning Wolverines Valiant companies, with the leadership of Chapter Master Harbo, of the 4th and 9th to bolster the 2nd,3rd and 8th companies. The Western front must be brought to bear in our three pronged attack, I believe we can cut resources from the center if the West and East push far enough ahead.
We have yet to reach the Arch Arsonist’s area of influence, when we reach further in we shall see more brutal and cunning orks.
Lord General Kruger Zonand

Strike Force Panther, reporting in. We apologize for the delay, our communications systems are suffering badly from the fall-out from Mogrok's demise.
Our Scout forces continue their investigations on Grimdi following the discovery of object designated Theta-Grimdi-Alpha. We believe the object to be of Necron descent, although its form and construction do not match any known Necron devices. Scout Squad Primus and the Forsian 11th Cavalry Company are now pushing deeper into the Grimdi's southern hemisphere, as our Scout Sergeant is convinced that there is more evidence to be found there.
He would also like to personally commend Captain Holt and his company for their exemplary service against the Greenskins plaguing the area.
Meanwhile, our main force has descended on the planet of Volentis on the Eastern Front, where we are currently engaging the final Greenskin fortifications at Hive Scelata. The 121st has performed admirably thus far, although rumours of dissent against Lt Col Truax seem to be increasing. We have also sent the most trustworthy of the 121st to garrison the civilian districts, as per your orders.
Strike Commander Tullius, out.
Earlier, on Mogrok…
“I hate this place”, said Zhoran to no-one in particular, as he wiped the ash off his helmet’s eye lenses. He peered over the cliff to the dark landscape in front of him. “Quite the grim dustball.”
“Reminds you of Olympia after your last visit, Zhoran?” Gorgyron joked. The Death Guard legionnaire stood few steps back alongside Sisyphus, a Dreadnought of his kin.
“More of Barbarus, really. Before it was blown into a billion pieces, that is.”
Gorgyron snorted. “How long do we even have to stay here?”, Zhoran continued, idly kicking a rock over the ledge.
“AS LONG AS NECESSARY”, Sisyphus boomed, as he stepped closer towards the edge of the cliff they were standing on. “WE CANNOT RISK DETECTION BY OUR PURSUERS.” The Dreadnought’s armoured form looked positively menacing in the dim light on Mogrok.
“Ah yes, our little flock of ravens. What were they called again? ’Death Ravens’?” He spat over the ledge. “How stupid.”
“This coming from you, ‘Iron Warrior’?” Gorgyron chuckled, his Barbaran accent slurring his words as he spoke.
“Careful now, Sisyphus. You might be a Dreadnought, but I’ve got the Lascannon”, Zhoran said provocatively.
The Dreadnought snatched Zhoran from the ground, the power armoured claw bringing him frighteningly close to eye-level.
“TRY ME, TIN MAN.”
“Children.”
The Traitor Astartes looked to their leader. A giant of blue and gold stood motionless on the edge of the cliff, his long brown cloak waving gently in the wind. His Terminator armour was a magnificent work of art, a remnant from a planet now long-forgotten.
Prospero.
The Thousand Son peered into the darkness above. A Sorcerer Lord of tremendous power, right hand man for The Remnants’ Lord and leader of this small expedition.
“It is almost time. Prepare to leave soon.”
“Finally”, Zhoran sighed in relief. “Although I still don’t understand why we didn’t kill that Kill-Team that was snooping around.”
“Because we don’t have to”, the Sorcerer replied. “We have what we need. The artifact is safe, and the decoy we left behind will serve its purpose.”
Zhoran snorted. “Tricks and illusions. I was under the impression we were soldiers, not magicians.”
The Sorcerer turned his head towards him, an icy stare quelling Zhoran’s complaints.
“Perhaps you should join your brothers then. After all, they will do what we will not.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Zhoran asked, slightly concerned. He wasn’t very keen on seeing much of his former comrades again.
“Observe.” The Sorcerer pointed to the sky, where blinking lights were slowly descending to the surface.
IV Legion. Iron Warriors.
“Here to claim the same thing we have already procured for ourselves." The Sorcerer finished the sentence forming in Zhoran's mind. "You should be glad, Zhoran. I thought you would like this opportunity to embarrass your former colleagues.”
Zhoran swallowed. He could only imagine what the Warsmith in command would do once he found out the artifact was a fake…
Spoiler:
Sorry for the delay guys, I was in Spain for a week so I couldn't really follow with the rest of the storyline. Hope you don't mind me putting in a little bit of intrigue with fake artifacts and Necron oddities
Also, I'll pick number 21; let's hope the Death Ravens don't run into unexpected troubles on Volentis and Grimdi....

Claudio strode with purpose into the Lord General's audience chamber. Sepheran and Samson flanked him, helmeted unlike their Sergeant. In his hand, the Ultramarine carried the shattered half of the artefact, emblazoned with the horned skull. The two Tempestus Scion guards outside the chamber took one look at the black armoured Astartes and bowed their masked heads, their ceremonial power glaives drawn away in a gesture of admission. Samson took one look at the guards and tutted.
"Our Lord General here would be far safer with some skitarii instead. Far less upkeep, for more loyal. More expendable, too." Ignoring the Iron Hand's remark, Claudio nodded to the Scions and pushed open the ornate nalwood doors.
"Ah. So these are the ones who ridded my hands of Mogrok." Zonand addressed the Deathwatch, rising from his desk. Despite being dwarfed by the power-armoured giants, he still radiated an aura of power. "I must say, I certainly wasn't expecting that." "No one expects the Imperial Inquisition, Lord General. Consider it a gift from the Deathwatch." Zonand retreated back to his plush grox-leather chair. "Could I interest you in a drink? It's the least I could do, after you mentioned your comrades passing. Traitor Astartes, yes?" Sepheran spoke up. "Iron warriors, IV Legion. I'd take an amasec, but we fear our duty is not yet done."
"Done?" The Lord General scoffed. "You've done a fine job! Mogrok is gone, our enemies' fleet routed on the Western front. I'd recommend you very highly to your Watch Commander." "We were sent to Mogrok to obtain an artefact." Claudio placed the staff on the officer's desk. "This artefact. I cut it in two with my power axe to get it out quicker. The Chaos wretch has the other half." "I see. But all we have to do is retrieve the second half of it, yes? I'm sure we can-" "No, Lord General. We have a bigger complication. You see this staff?" He gestured at the artefact. "It is a fake." "But-" "Someone got to it first. They have the original." Samson spat, hatred barely disguised in his voice.
Zonand sighed in resignation, and reached for the decanter of amasec. "Feth this. This is beyond a joke." Claudio nodded. "Aye, my lord. But we do have some good news." "Yes?" Zonand grunted. "We have identified the thief. It so happen to be a Chaos warband. They call themselves the Remnants, made up of Chaos renegades from shattered warbands." Samson took over. "We can assume that this artefact is related to the recent anomaly that occurred over the sensor network. When the seven points and Mogrok are cross-correlated, it forms an eight pointed star." "The Mark of Chaos Undivided." Zonand grimaced. "Exactly. The points link up to this world here." Claudio gestured to the star map on Zonand's wall. "Gallor Prime. There is something on this world, something big. In the name of the Inquisition, we need to push for this world. In order to do so, we need to find out what's on the tips of each point on this Chaos Star."
Zonand groaned in exasperation. Why couldn't things just be simpler? Why did these complications have to interrupt his plans. Somehow, the Lord General realised someone out there was laughing their ass off at his misfortune. How quaint.
"So? Are you going to have me pull out all my forces, Watch-Sergeant? Take these world of yours? Because in case you didn't know, I'm over extending as I am, and-" "No." Claudio cut the raging commander off."There's more good news. the Inquisition have heard your call for help. My masters in the Ordo Xenos have seen fit to deploy more assets to your cause. Those seven worlds were raided and cleansed two days ago." Zonand gaped, open mouthed at what the Astartes was saying.
"The Deathwatch have come."
Spoiler:
Ooh, a plot twist! Me like plot twists! More Deathwatch have arrived in system to boost the strength of the crusade, and the seven worlds making up the Chaos star have had the relics on them recovered and Exterminatus'ed. Ave Imperator indeed. For the sake of the next numbers choice thing, I'll throw the number 39 in.

As a hideous shriek came from Archarus' chamber, anyone who heard it cowed in fear. The Warsmith had ordered a dozen men into his chambers and by the sounds of it they weren't coming out. The screams eventually resided, and the Chaos Lord burst out of the door.As Archarus walked out of his personal quarters, Skiraz approached the Warsmith.
"What is the matter, have the loyalists-" Skiraz began.
"It's. A. Fake." Archarus hissed.
"I don't understand, what is?" Skiraz said, taking an involuntary step back.
"The artifact. The staff. Someone set a decoy there. We were tricked." Archarus was on the verge of snapping. All of his careful planning, wasted in an instant.
"Are you sure, my lord?" Skiraz asked, "The loyalists wouldn't have sacrificed themselves for a fake."
"No loyalist fool could think of such a plan. They fell for it as much as we did. Only the Eldar or another warband could've done such a deed, and there was no Eldar taint in the temple. We must find this warband, and crush those who tricked us."
It was at this time the Pugarr returned, with several squads of astartes behind him. "I have brought the toughest I could find, Warsmith. Surely some of this rabble will work." He rumbled, sensing the Chaos Lord's foul mood.
Archarus nodded, and calmly strode up to one of the astartes. "Our primarch had us kill our own brothers when he was discovered.. I snapped the neck of my own sergeant. We paid for our faults, have you?" Faster than even the traitor marine could react Archarus swung his thunder hammer into his chest, cracking the armor crushing the chest cavity. The marine fell to the ground, and Archarus swung down onto the back of his skull, crushing it.
"No weak links. We will claim the true artifact, and none of you will fail me. Let this fallen marine be an example." Archarus turned back to his chamber and gestured for Skiraz to follow.
"Train them well, Pugarr. I need a fully operational army before I can do anything else."

Have arrived on outer rim of new operational area, beginning recon on the first planets. minimal ork presence detected thus far but longer range scans reveal larger populations and fleets deeper into ork space.
will take slower pace, and take planet by planet securing the frontline as we go and proceed with caution given lack of information about the deep ork planets.

Lord Marshall Karak looked down from the bridge, streams of fire raced to suraface, even from orbit huge mushroom clouds rose from the orbital strikes and smoke choked the atmosphere turning day into night on the surface.
This planet would fall easily. The deeper planets where a very different story. The signs showed the potential for billions of orks in the systems as a whole. This campaign would not be easy.
Turning to chaplain Saladin, he ordered.
"Have the crews ready the extermitus warheads for deployment . They will be needed in the coming weeks, I want them armed the instant we require them"
"It will be done, I will oversee the task personally" was the respectful but firm reply.
The Lord Marshall scanned the central viewer showing the ork world, all was going to plan, landings where forming bridgeheads and the death korps where beginning to make planet fall.
Grim, inflexible but they where ideal for this brutal war, lives mattered not, only progress.

In the Warp, getting trolled by Tactical_Spam, AKA TZEENTCH INCARNATE
Meanwhile, aboard The Wandering Wraith, flagship of The Remnants....
The Sorcerer walked slowly through the halls of the ship as he made his way towards the Commander's room. The Commander had claimed a small room for himself close to the command bridge, where he spent his time planning the warband's next move with the few individuals he trusted. The Sorcerer was one of those individuals.
His weapons hung mag-locked to his belt, his mace softly ticking against his leg with each step. His left hand clutched a jet-black metal container, which had about the size of a staff. He could feel the artifact's malevolent influence radiating from the box, as if something inside was trying to reach out. He ignored its pleas. He knew better than to deal with daemons.
His father's mistake had taught him that.
Two ex-Black Legionnaires, veterans and companions of the Commander himself, stood guard outside the Commander's office. Both nodded respectfully as the Sorcerer approached, one of them signalling his arrival to those already inside.
The room was brightly lit by the blue light of a hologram of Gallor Prime, the planet slowly rotating as attack vectors were drawn out. Five figures resided in the room: a Word Bearer, an Iron Warrior, a Night Lord, a Fallen Angel and finally, the Commander himself.
The room fell silent as the Sorcerer slammed the box on the table, disrupting the hologram, which switched to stand-by mode and covered the room in a crimson glow.
"Ah, good to see you again, Sorcerer", the Word Bearer began, a smug grin on his lips. "I take it your little expedition proved fruitful?"
"It was as you had described, Bearer of the Word", the Sorcerer replied starkly. "And the arrival of the Inquisition and our errant brothers happened as I had foreseen."
"Poor Archarus", the Iron Warrior chuckled, as he bent over the table to observe the box. "The look on his face must have been priceless."
"Let us focus on the matter at hand, brothers." The Commander's voice was a deep bass, almost like the rumbling of a tank's engine. "The Deathwatch has deployed in full force across the sector. They have retrieved the other artifacts and rendered their holds to dust. Only Gallor Prime remains."
"Good for us, then", the Fallen Angel spoke, "Saves us the trouble of finding them."
"My concern is that the Inquisition is going to try and keep the artifacts rather than destroy them, brother", the Commander replied. "Those artifacts are more dangerous than anything we've faced before, and there are more than enough Inquisitors willing to make use of such power."
"So what would you have us do? Assault the entire Deathwatch fleet to destroy a few measly artifacts?", the Night Lord said angrily. "Such an act would doom us all, and you damn well know it."
"Calm yourself, Night Lord", the Sorcerer replied, his eyes focusing on the Commander, "That is not what our commander intends, is it?"
The Commander sighed. Everyone looked at him expectantly, waiting for him to reveal his intentions.
"We must set an example. Something terrible enough to convince the Deathwatch that these artifacts are better off destroyed. And with this...", the Commander spoke, as he picked up the black box from the table, "...will help us do that."
The hologram sprung back to life, Gallor Prime appearing in the center of the room once more. All eyes in the room looked at the planet, as it rotated innocently, unaware of the sword of Damocles hanging above its head...
