Hi all,
I needed a 6 week break to get my enthusiasm back, thankfully I've only missed 1 challenge =). I'll enter this one from last month that I never got round to (the one on the left). He is from an awesome 'fun' 'game' called super dungeon explore.

WIP on my cherub. I'm going for creepy so I hope it's working.
Dark Angels/Deathwing - just getting started!
Space Marines - Stark Crusaders 4500pts/PL244 (2700pts painted)
Eldar - Biel Tan 2000pts
Space Wolves 1500pts
So, life has been occupying most of the month so far, but I need to paint up these guys for our Dark Heresy campaign, which I figure fits the theme, so let's see how we go:
Bit of a shame as I got my Greebo miniatures Florentine knights Blood Bowl team in the post a couple of weeks back, but there's no chance of doing justice to them in the time left.

Some great-looking stuff here as usual guys. I've finished my Wyldwood, but I still need to take the photos. This is usually quite an undertaking as I need to comandeer my wife for an evening, get my son to sleep, and set up our makeshift photo studio, which consists of a lightbox balanced on to of the Imperial Knight: Renegade box, two lights each with their own extension cable, a DSLR, and an uncooperative tripod. It always takes at least two attempts to get good photos, too.
As a theme for next month, how about The Divine Comedy? You could go with something funny, something like Harlequins, you could take the highbrow route and reference the Dante poem, which deals with heaven, hell, and purgatory, or you could just paint a lovely horse.

Sounds like one for Midget - National Orkspress!
Dark Angels/Deathwing - just getting started!

Eldar - Biel Tan 2000pts
Space Wolves 1500pts
So, apologies for no proof pic, as I did this at Historicon's Paint and Take, and didn't think to take one. Not really happy with this, too many bits where paint came off after painting, but I really have run outta motivation for the month. Likewise, really need to crop these down, but...again, out of cheese error.

Finally yad some decent enough weather to go outside and take pictures. I realized that it actually is just little bit smaller than 3 inches so it works as an objective marker aswell!

Love the helmet there, Ninjapirate...it's really a cool detail.
I have almost finished my sorceress' hut and I noticed that a lot of others are including figures, so I thought I might try to get the cottage's owner done...
I know my proof pic is already painted but I will be doing a completely new paint job on her, nothing like the existing one. Looking forward to everyone's entries!

Very nice miniature to paint. I wanted to do something special this time, so I tried some freehand. I've never done freehand before
and I must say it's no joke! I can't even imagine how some artists draw mini paintings on miniatures. Even paint as simple as
a straight line is not easy. When I was doing the diamond pattern It was a nightmare to draw a straight line on a curve surface.
Overall I'm quite happy with the mini especially with the lightning on the staff.

Great job as always, Modock.
The blending of the yellow on the gloves and cowl is awesome and I really like the tones of the stones on the base.
Good diamonds, too!

Fantastic sea, Paul! And Modock, that Shadowseer is stunning.
Here are my final pics of my Wyldwood.
I really like the model. I bought it for it's in-game effects, thinking it was just a bit of scenery, but it's a great model in it's own right. It's so detailed and sinister. I wanted it to look quite realistic, but sort of creepy. Pretty at first glance, but with something unsettling about it. Like if you came across this glade while out walking you might hesitate to enter.
I entered this as it fulfills Paradigm's suggestion of something that is a game-piece rather than a miniature. Scenery is an often overlooked part of the table, and without this challenge, I reckon I might have done a much quicker, more functional job on the wyldwood when I got round to painting it. I'm glad I didn't, because it was fun to spend time with the model, find it's cool little details, and try to bring out it's sinister character.

I'm going to enter this month; I got inspired by the "Show off your objective markers" thread, so I've made 6 crates. I took a 20 year hiatus from playing 40k and just got back into playing around the release of 7th. I don't get much time for "fun and games" and have only played 3 games of 40k, but a friend and I have finally got the basic mechanics down, and I want to make our games a little more interesting than just trying to clean each other's troops off the table.
The stock for these is carpentry leftovers and I suspect it's white pine, but I'm not entirely sure. It's high quality though (not your standard 2x4 material), and very light colored (almost white), the picture makes it appear darker than it really is. My question is: does anyone have a favorite method to paint wood to look more like... wood? Thanks for any tips you guys can provide.
Proof:
@Gulgog TufToof.
Well the paint schemes i used for my pallets & crates were as follows, also cool crates nice and big!
Gray crates:Abaddon black Undercoat,Drybrushed Dawnstone.
Green crates:Abaddon black Undercoat,Drybrushed Castellan Green.
Brown Crates & Pallets:Scorched Brown Undercoat,Drybrushed Bestial Brown,or its equivalent, using up my old paints for such things.
@feltmonky you've done a cracking job as usual on the wyldwood cant wait to see that in the table next time we play. @moolet thats an awesome treeman thingamy bob looks fantastic. Good job to a lot of the guys who have funished already.
Got a couple of things to do this weekend but see you all at the finish line.

Great entries again.
Looking forward to seeing Midget’s orksome creation.
N1ceguypaul - your board is looking great, love that sea it is so realistic.
Feltmonkey - great work on the wyldwood, those details are really eerie and I agree with you about this month’s challenge. I don’t usually do any terrain either, so it was rewarding to do something a bit different.
Moolet - that treant is super-dungeon-cool, awesome blending on the teeth especially.
Anyhow, this is my finished entry for this month. It is meant as a set piece for a game of DnD some friends have coming up but I think I might have spent two weeks painting something that will be used for two minutes…
The exterior is an old Games Workshop building that they don’t make anymore and the interior is scratch-built. Overall, I really enjoyed this project and am pleased with the end result.
See everyone for some brutality next month!
