It's time to get some of these Ork vehicles finished. Well, at least one of them. I need it for a game. And I'm getting back into with the most riveting part of vehicle building: Riveting! The ultimate form of self flagellation for any sculptor or kitbasher! There are many ways to accomplish it, each with their own unique form of pain!

Rivets for the rivet god!!!
Some great work going on here
Think I prefer some of your conversions to the forge world sculpts, some of them have become a bit dated and a bit bland by comparison. It's almost like you need to kitbash them a little to make them less generic and have a bit more character about them.
Anyway, great stuff, subscribed

Thank you, I'm really flattered!

I do prefer the FW sculpts over the GW ones, though. There's a busy-ness that FW resin has that I think is slightly lacking in GW plastic. And that's part of the fun of kitbashing ork stuff. Taking as many different materials as I can and piling it on top of the basic model. Of course it never really feels like it's finished. Just a couple more plates here. A few more rivets there.

Your wagons are beyond cool, proper orky and the right level of killy and silly

I come back to this blog whenever it pops up, it's about time I posted here and told you how good a job you're doing!

More work done on the main body. I need to buy some sort of saw blade for my Dremel tool. Something that would make it easier to break apart the body of these built models. Until then, the easiest way to build these ork vehicle is to just throw plates of the imperial bodywork. Hopefully I've tacked on enough exhaust ports to imply the presence of a large engine. The next step is to stair at my work and wonder if I've added enough scrap to the whole thing. And more riveting.

Have you ever tried using a 1/16 inch paper hole punch to make your rivets out of plasticard? I use it all the time on my vehicles and it might be faster and easier.

Interesting. That's something I might need to experiment with. It might also be useful for making piles of gold coins. I do like the green stuff for it's randomness. I figure orks would not be that consistent at riveting, half heartedly heating and hammering them flat.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I probably should have held off on the update, I actually got the riveting done rather quickly. And I'm looking at this thing from end to end and I think I'm safe to call it ready. I think I'm ready to start painting this thing. I have a whole pile of grots to pick from, I think I'll add them after everything is painted up. And maybe give some extra attention to the nob boss on top.

Orks use only the finest operating systems: grots. Versatile, Compact and easily replaceable. The humble grot is immune to all kinds of digital and spiritual warfare.

Seriously though, I think GW putting goblins/grots in the same army as Orks was a stroke of creative genius. They easily add so much character and visual story telling to any miniature. And their small size makes them easy to fit on vehicle and model bases.

I am totally with you on this point, and your use of them to convey the character and visual story telling is superb!

I’d not thought of grots as an OS, but it makes so much sense! Love the one hiding by the barrels

It is done and just in time for the big game! I messed the rust process I had figured out so it's not as gritty as I'd like. And I might have to go back and put more grots on it at some point. But overall, I consider quite the accomplishment on my part. And maybe I have come a step closer to having enough dakka.

Thank you. In hindsight a big, boxy turret may have been easier to construct. Bending plasticard is a pain.

Well, you need the additional space for ammo storage with that many guns, so worth the effort

These are absolutely brilliant! If it helps, for rivets we use blobs of quick dry PVA applied with a cocktail stick or paperclip and it usually does the job

Interesting. I should have some normal PVA, but I'll have to see if my craft carries something with a faster dry time. Do some experimenting.

Try the tacky glue, basically PVA with some isopropyl alcohol in it to make it dry quicker

Finally, more Ork stuff!

The new codex is coming out soon and I've got a game lined to play with it. I have five days to get two tanks done, so need to do this quick and dirty. Starting off with a scheme that can be accomplished with just an airbrush, which is just a basecoat of brown with rough patches of reds and oranges scattered on top.

I don't know why my camera makes it look like baby poop, but it came out much more orange than this.

These are excellent I miss generic ork vehicles a trak or a buggy makes more sense than everything being 1 of 4 totally specific vehicles.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass.
