I did know that she had those.....at one point, but I shall wait as I’m sure they will probably become some form of zombicide fig in the future...maybe with a Comfy Chair .

Started cracking on the hatchets, but many more layers on the metal need to be done.

Not casting my own foot , that’s just weird. Especially since my surgery on my toe a few weeks ago. Points for the idea though. Size 13 extra wide would use up a lot of material. A LOT of material and would cover a huge portion of any playing field. I have the original foot of Gork template from 2nd or 3rd edition Warhammer somewhere.

Got a bit sidetracked/back on target.

I just wonder if I should coat him in blood like he just butchered his way through a castle of horny virgins.

I worked on Covfefe’s cotton candy@$$.

And used more dry paints to do his soft scaly underbelly.

The big question is who should be next?

That beastie is pretty cool. How do you like the dry paints? I've never tried them myself.

Now showing Shieldmaiden Hearthguard from Bad Squiddo!

Painting total as of 10/13/2018: 187 plus three sets of Osgiliath ruins and Great Cthulhu and a Japanese peasant farmhouse and a rice paddy and a whole bunch of resin Frostgrave terrain.
Painting total for 2017: 267 plus two SF buildings and two specimen tanks and two Treemen and two chariots and lots of Frostgrave ruins and an evil tree, six mythos monsters, two GF9 swamps and fifteen pieces of scatter terrain.

Making some good progress here! I particularly like the knight, very nice muted colours on the robes.

I just got some of the dry paints and they work pretty well, they don't run into other parts of the miniature unlike regular paints like to do.

I really like them. Takes getting used to, but I like the outcome.

That’s it exactly, didn’t know why I liked them more than regular paints for drybrushing, but you just nailed it.

Oh but the bunny was so last page .

Well on to Montabone....or whatever they called him . I have him almost done, but forgot to take a picture before I left. I think the king will be last of the party to get done.

I took a couple days of time off so 4 day weekend starting tomorrow, I have lots to do at church, but most of my time will be with the wife as she also has the same 4 days off. But she likes to sleep in, so there’s plenty of time for me to paint in the AM.

Well we had to go moderately contrasting as the funds for making The Holy Grail movie got blown on alcohol, so they had to go with not as elaborate wardrobe .

Well like I said above the figs themselves are really well done, my only big issue is with Chauncey. He had servere mold slippage all over his body, head, leg and hand. No excuse, but it really messed up details.

Still a WIP, more to be done on him, then on to Gilbert and Mortimer.

For those not in the know, Gits has been championing a game called BUSHIDO over in his thread. Though I will probably never get to play against him or his buddies I decided to get into the game since they are releasing a true samurai faction called the Minimoto Clan (mountain clan with bears and Tetsubo). I have the starter set and two other figs and the faction cards coming hopefully tomorrow, and another character ally coming next week. That’s all the figs for the clan released so far, but just yesterday they showed previews of the bear and another blacksmith who chucks molten metal and ashes at opponents. Rules are free on their website GCTstudios.com. In the mean time I’m pushing my skills to do some tests on old L5R crab samurai to see if I can get a good scheme going. They use red, black, white and a greenish metal color which I’m not a fan of. This I should a work I need progress, the armor is only washed to help me see texture and details, but I kind of like it. The leggings and waist band are done and skin is done as well, but I might give one more shade up on the red still. Let me know what you think.

As always, comments appreciated.

Edit: made a few bases using some wrath of kings bases and plumbers putty. I then pressed a rock into the putty to stamp random texture into the base.

Thanks Cam , I think it does really work with all the details on this model. He will eventually get completed for some use, probably for test of Honour though.

CommissarKhaine wrote:Someone's moving fast...One nice tetsubo. Minor comment though: they usually were wood with metal nobs driven into them.

Yes, I know on the Tetsubo, but the artwork on the Minimoto Clan has the Tetsubo being metal, I guess when your clan rules the mountain with metal smiths and mines you can make whatever you want.

So I got my package today, it was waiting on the counter when I got home from work. These are hands down the BEST metal figs I have ever handled, much less owned. Out of the seven figs there was only 1 piece of extra metal flash which came off with my fingernail scrapping it and no mold slippage anywhere. Not nearly the detail as the L5R figs, but matches the artwork perfectly.

I’m disappointed in how they were packaged as the card s are bent and the edges are worn. Being important to the game I figured they would have a better way of protecting them in transit.

All 7 out of the packages and stood up in their bases. Sorry that I’ll be cutting the tabs off to glue them to their permanent bases, but they will get primed on these tomorrow.

The bases I made this morning which these and others will sit on. The card is the clan emblem, a bear superimposed on the mountain. I tried to get the bases to look like the rocks of the mountain with black, brown and reddish washes on the white air drying clay.

Closeups of the bases. Really simple technique. I filled the bases with the air drying clay level to the rim of the base and then took a random rock and pressed into the clay to imprint the texture, turning the rock and using different edges and covering the whole base with multiple overlapping imprints. These sat for about 12 hours while I was at work and then I hit them with Nuln oil, some Agrax earthshade and then tiny bits of Reikland fleshwash. I think I’ll have to touch them up in the morning to see how much the clay draws the colors in.

Also was playing with another L5R fig and I think I may have the green down now how I will try it on the Minimoto. While painting this guy I realized that he isn’t a shamrock Samurai . Look at those knee pads with the three leaf clover .

Thanks Dr. H, not sure if I’ll use them though as id have to cut off these huge tabs under the models. I’ve got time to think about it though as I have the models to paint.

So I ordered Hisoka on the 7th late at night and it arrived today 5 days ahead of time , or a few hours late to get primed with the rest of the models . I’m a glass half empty sort of guy I guess. Anyway he brings my rice total up to 52 without enhancements, events or specials.

In the mean time today I’ve been painting.....

Still plenty of work to do on him, but starting to take shape. The brown coat will get more red and the blacks have had no highlights yet. The skin is done, but he needs eyebrows and beard. His socks and white sleeves are also done at this point. I don’t think I’ll go any whiter with them.

Thanks Meer_Cat, I hope they turn out well. I think I’m changing up the color scheme slightly by doing the reds as browns though...I figure that might help bring the bear into the color scheme, we will see eventually.

The old L5R figs are really nice, too bad the shamrock samurai has such an odd face, so long and narrow.

Maniac_nmt wrote:Not-Tim is very well done. Nice, muted colors that you can still separate visually.

Thanks Maniac_nmt, he turned out better than I had planned in my head.

So more work done on the blacksmith, almost done, still must finish his fur collar, rings on his arm and assorted small items.

As I mentioned above, I think I’ll keep the brown color instead of taking it up to red. Hopefully it will help bring the fur of the bear into the clan colors. I think I’ll still do some red like the Tetsubo handle and small bits here and there, but not as much as I had planned to go with.

Thanks graven , red will probably happen, but I need to get some supplies first.

In the mean time I got the next model base colored and hit it with a few washes. Aya Masaema, ashigaru, Gunso

It feels strange painting Japanese armor with metallic paints, but that’s how they look to me in the paintings, and being the highest of armor levels (3 and 4) it makes sense.

Hopefully it will look better once I get to do layers and bring colors back up. The primer covered spotty and a bit grainy, but I think it’s still okay.
