hmm...that could work...will test this tomorrow...for now i thought of using the caps but i guess this would be a good way of using the cans and getting them to be movable...thanks for the idea...i think tomorrow i will have to develop a cardboard sponson set to get the thing working!

well the name oddball tanks for your thread had always given me a certain fuzzy feeling^^
well i have to make a top that is at least two layered and can hold the top of the platform and then a bottom that is too at least two layered...then a middlepart to make the platforms let snuggly fit ...guess i will have to look into your design again^^
i am currently thinking about ordering zinges stuff...or do you think i can come up with those vents you did on the sides and some hatches too by myself? well it isn´t really the time for the dtailtalk but the dreaming has started long ago^^

LOL!
Being as broke as I am, I used bitz that were floating about. If you can get the stuff you can afford, remember the vent is made from a basilisk ladder I am not using with parts cut off and then grooves cut for the plasticard slats. I say go for whatever way you want to!

well i guess my wife wouldn´t find it funny if i would go for the bits... so it might be a good move to scratchbuilt the hatches and the vents myself^^...bits of tanks are currently not available...but then all can change in due time... as i just loooove visiting fleakarkets...and these are as everybody knows like a box of chocolates...^^

Regarding movable sponsons: Magnets! There are many advantages, you can replace them whenever you like, take them out for painting, make alternative sponsons, nothing can break or jam... need I go on?

well actually i do have quite the number of weapons still lying around... some HW sprues i bought and got over time...with the lascanons i am far to hesitant to cut them up like you did... that´s hurting to do for me...^^ so i guess the main gun... maybe a double barreld one will be made from feltpens... this might look the part actually...with a little extra tubing for muzzle i might actually get a cool looking thingy...and the vents....maybe something like that
could be redone on a smaller scale... didn´t say on the package that the vents had to be angular^^

That is a nice looking one.
As for the lascannons,. well, I really didn't cut them up, just a little shaving and then glued them together, the rest of them is in that beefy main turret I built around them! is a little fuzzy, but there is the back end of the las-canons, uncut.

Well, the auto-cannons on the sponsons got the hobby saw and the snips applied to them. I will admit to that, so did the orky weapons that resemble Vickers MG's as I desired the ater cooled jacket look for the heavy stubbers for those!

i guess when you are good with the saw then this is a good way to achive good cuts...the thing is even tho i have screws and other means to stabilize and secure my to be sawed stuff i still am so crappy with the saw... the knife is a better ally to me but when it coms to a certain presiceness ... then i lack it...

meh. I'm fairly useless with a knife (for plastic and plasticard), and a similar story for the saw (except for metals).
I tend to reach for the clipper on most things.

well the clipper produces these raised and bent edges... for certain jobs a definite no go...but like my late grandad used to say: for each job use the right tool...too bad that secretly the right tools are there just the needed left and right thumbs sometimes seem to change themselfs to their inapropriate counterpart...and not letting it show beforehand, otherwise i could compensate^^
on a serious note, if i was able to get good cuts i could be miles further in each scratchbuilding project... the frustration of having yet again a bad cut drives me to more and more new projects...

Knifes can be tricky. Especially if you are a cheap ass like me and you don't replace your blades, knowing they got dull.
Saws are a whole different thing. IMO one needs two kinds of saws: One like the normal modelling saw from GW, but with blades that cut in all directions, so you can snake your way through any material. And a second one, that uses sawblades in the gauge and shape of razor blades (LOVE it!), my most important tool. Saws through plastic and metals easily and only takes away 0,25mm of material.

at shaso:
i got plenty of files and sandingpaper so this is not an issue...to my defence i never had proper courses in school to show me the proper use of most tools... so when i recently started in this hobby i am still in a older version of try and error...
at baiyuan:
normally i tend to ignor sharpness and dullness of knifes too...but since i had to cut to so much foam these days i have seen the benefit of changing alot the blades...
i also have a small collection of cheap and sometimes rather old small saws... so no telling what kinds of saws and their blades i have...the all direction saw sounds rather useful...will have to get a closer look but i guess i dont have such version of the blades...

so lads and ladies,
picture update time here on our family friendly neighberhood thread...
it is finally weapontime...as a little brirdy trilled to me you seem to want to see some sponsons in the works? well who am i to not listen to these beggings? right...we deliver...:
not that the pics are a rough wip still and get a skin all around to complete the look...
the filmcans are a 30mm something in diameter and i tested many ways to make them swivveling...too bad my tool didn´t put up to the job at hand... i had tried everything...foam wood and cardboard...tried round holes but ended up again in this odessey with cardboard and angular wholes that still allow movement...and are far better to cut out...when the next tank will be sitting on my workstation certain things will be different as i will change some processes and ways of aproaching certain looks...i learned quie a few lessons by this project...sometimes the hard way and lots of ruffling hair and stuff like that...here is a further step in the making...the glue is here still rather fresh in the pics and will be by now mostly cured...later...probably ´morrow or even later still i will try to give the weaponplatform here a skin and then some early on detail...how i will be painting this is still a mystery as not to loose the movability but living is a learning process...
after this one is finished i will move to the second sponsonsystem...and then the hull gets again my full attention...
any thought are more then welcome, so don´t hesitate to grumble or mumble here^^

100 points for the mister^^ yep i used the HW mortar...atm i have no use for this weapon and i thought it might make a good oldfashioned bolter kind of weapon...i had thought about using the pipes of felt pens...but they would be too big and totally without details...so i misstreated quite a bit the mortars and i am rather satified with the look now...
thanks neil, i hope that in the next days the look will get better and to make it more convincingly...as for the size... these capsules are so high that a catachan can stand easyly inside one of them... so i will try to add viewpoints/slits to the capsules and then some rivets too to make the look archaic enough ...
