Very nice GS work on the hair. It could have ended up in a something messy but your technique is good. 
Of course it gives your marine an odd late 80s/early 90s look, but I really liked David Hasselhoff when I was a kid

Liking the hair on that lad a lot, it looks great. You have to give one of your ultras a full beard, it would look great with your technique!
Or maybe a Lincoln-beard?  Or a big mustarche? (I think I'll have to try this myself one time!)

You could always look on eBay for the metal versions and strip the paint off them? Or maybe get some alternate models, but you'll have to bear in mind that you will not be able to use non GW models in a GW shop. Edit: Or you could convert them if you have the skills, patience and time.

I wouldn't be so certain, the Romans had crests on their helmets as well... below is a Roman centurion helmet with a red crest...  I do agree with the fact that the helmet that bubbles bought has a greek shape, but if it was painted a tarnished silver + gold with red for the crest it should be roman enough.
