It doesn't affect me at all since I don't use Mantic minis and I base everything separately so that they can be used with many different rules but for some reason it rubs me the wrong way.

Another way to think about it is if Mantic is selling Kings of War models primarily to Kings of War players, most of the plastic bases included would be unused. I probably have 200+ bases that I'm not really using and that's a lot of plastic to ship around the planet to just sit in people's homes and not get used.

And if you're basing models for other game systems, you might want Citadel style bases for your models anyway.

Which brings me back to my earlier question:

Is multibase the norm now for KOW players?

I assumed that multibase was always a minority approach, but I haven't been paying too much attention.

Yes.

I would also assume that if someone is buying Kings of War models for a different game then they're probably hobby savvy to acquire bases on their own.

May be a stupid question as I'm going off of hazy memories from the early days when WHFB collapsed but the players at my FLGS always used big square multibases for formations of units. They got very creative with them adding terrain and such when converting over their fantasy figs. Am I not remembering that correctly? Or is this a different style multibase?

I guess I missed the transition from "a cool option" to "the new normal".

Our little group didn't multibase anything, even the couple players who used actual Mantic armies. Probably unsurprising though as our armies see use across several rulesets of which KOW is only one.

The only reason not to do it is if you need the models for other games that require single based models and one doesn't want dedicated armies

But for those who made armies dedicated for KoW this was already the "normal" in 2nd Edition and earlier as it reduces the amount of models needed by a lot without looking bad
