Thanks for all the praising comments people. Sorry for not replying earlier, but busy life and such...

As the camo is quite easy to do and people seem to like it so I have started doing tutorial to cover the subject.

life.

how did you do the cameo colors? and how did you do the cameo itself, pattern wise?

I collect:

Grand alliance death (whole alliance)

Stormcast eternals

Slaves to Darkness - currently Nurgle but may expand to undivided.

The camo looks great, although I though O'Shovah's force was red? Whatever, it's a great scheme. I think the Tau would look better in this scheme than any other army out there, including IG.

Looking for the Empire spearmen from the Warhammer sixth edition box set (empire vs orcs) Must be unpainted and in good condition. Also looking for MIB Empire State Troops boxes.

Looking for Battle for Macragge and Black Reach Tactical squads, unpainted and unassembled.

Threadromancy!

But actually with new stuff.

Since Tau got their update in April I have wanted to do some new stuff for my army. I attended one tournament week or so ago, which was a perfect excuse to paint some new stuff for this project. And now i even got some photos taken.

First of a Broadside unit, two Shas'ui and one Shas'vre with High-yield missile pods and Smart missile systems. Love the new design for these guys, gorgeous models. I was disappointed about the High-yield missile pods design thou, which looked like the good old ham hands IMO, that we saw in so many plastic kits in early 2000s. As the Rail rifle from this set looked so cool I decided to combine the weapons to get more Ummmff look for the models. Ended up with this result, which I am quite happy with, glad to hear your comments on them as well.

And the Broadsides trusted companions/buffer wounds, the missile drones

And the new plastic Pathfinders, really nice set. Some really cool SWAT/modern military poses. I wish GW would do a plastic set that had these kind of poses but with humans.

And Ethereal, my local store didn't have any on stock and I was running out of time before the tournament. So I ended up converting mine from Island of Blood HE mage.

Glad to hear your comments as well.

Hey dood, I am digging everything you have going on here, big fan of Tau camo when done right, I think the only piece I don't particularly like is the ethereal. It isn't the model either, you did a beautiful job converting the high elf model, I feel it is the color choice. Where as the camo works well for the more military models of the rest of the army...

i dunno, I just feel like an ethereal should in general be more flashy, like brighter colors to represent his badge of office.

Always nice to see Tau in grittier, more realistic schemes instead of the clean anime look they often tend to get. And that Broadside conversion is an incredibly simple idea which looks great. Nice work.

That's some great work!

Any more pics of the bases on the Devilfish, also how did you make those misslesides guns!?

Thanks for the warm comments gents!

gameandwatch: I understand your point. I was between this style and the more flashier you mentioned, and in the end I went this way as I felt the Ethereal would be clad more toned town manner as he is going to the battle field. But it's 40k so I guess he could wear royal purple robes and carry all the bling in Tau empire and still it would pass

And note people, if you do this conversion, remember to cut his extra fingers so that he wont be suspected as first chaos Tau

Deacis657: I'll try to take more pics on the Devilfish soon while I also photograph my Riptide.

Unfortunately I did not take pics while building the high-yield missiles. But basically it goes that you take the railgun and then cut it in two from bit further (towards the hand) from the base of the barrel. Then you take missile arm and cut the arm off so that you are left with the missile pod. Smoothen and clean both parts cut sections. You then turn the pod around so that the targeting lens thingy is on the upper side (as it normally is supposed to be on the bottom side). Then you glue the two pieces together, simple as that. You might have to "adjust" the broadsides other arm a bit, as the stud aimed to hold the railgun from specific groove dowork properly anymore. The arm posing might also require bit more work that in standard railgun configuration.

Hope this helps a bit

I will try to get some pics form my Riptide for this blog soonish.

Hey no doubt I would say he would at least have some form of camo so he wouldn't be a massively sore thumb, but hey man, they are ethereals, they have enough bravado and ego to fill a cosmos.

Thanks killykavekommando

As an update, here are the Riptide pics. Overall very nice set, very tempted to do another one for the army.

Some close-ups. Did some detailing with Tau transfers, they are surprisingly big, can't see them being used except on this and hammerhead.

The base, small project of its own.

Magnetized weapons

I also noted that I haven't linked on this blog to my tutorial on how to do the camo. Here's the link http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/242021.page if somebody wants to try it out.

Cheers,

Riptide looks great! Actually all of your new Tau stuff does. I really like how you have the missile pods aiming where the head is looking. Nice little touch.
