Hello!

Hobby space is at a premium at my place, so I'm looking for advice (and links!) on what is the best paint storage rack out there?

I mostly use Vallejo paints, but I do also have a fair amount of GW stuff too.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

This is a pretty good article and I built one like it. I have 53 Vellejo paints and 8 GW pots, they all fit on the back end easy enough (I use mine longways). It's a nice little set-up that you can put away as needed. Hope this helps. I think mine cost just under $30 when all was said and done.

This is what they have at my local GW as well as several people here on Dakka have them.

I saw somebody on the "Show off your painting area" had a very sweet (and cheap) setup. Essentially spice rack sized shelves, with an elastic band across the front to keep the paints in place. Worked well for ALL sizes of paint, and it was very easy to see exactly what was in what bottle, how much, etc.

I think I might do something like that for myself if I ever move the table next to a wall to hang it on.

The paintier, referenced by Ghost in the Darkness, is the best I've seen, especially if space is at a premium. What's more, Ben Pope, the guy who designed them, is really friendly and you can email him and get some more trays and rods (for a price, of course), to expand it even more. I have six tiers on mine, allowing me 120 paints stored in about a square foot of desk space.

I'll second the paintier. A bit pricey but worth it just for the joy of being able to rotate things.

I have the full GW range (and extras) on one, and the full VMC range on the other (double stacked). I'm tempted to get a third but the double stacking is not too annoying.

Nice!

It is pricey, but most likely worth it as it takes up the "least" amount of space, which is certainly at a premium!

if i were to put it the way i see it, i would say the best painting station is all of your paints in a dirty great pile in the middle of you workspace. that way you can see all of your paints and put them in any order you want if you want to be a little bit organised. it works for me. it WILL work for you.

I use a plastic tacklebox that I bought at the swap-n-shop for $5. It's ugly, but it works.

You could goto any home improvement store and find pretty much the same spinny dealy for much less in the kitchen sections. Id imagine simply drilling some holes for your brushes and presto.
Personally I do EVERYTHING on a piece of plexiglass, so when Im done I just put it all on the plexi and put the whole mess away. It makes my wife happy

I would like to thank everybody on this post!! I purchased a bunch of Paintier paint trays and used 4" diameter PVC pipe as the spacers.

A nail polish holder works very well if you have an area to mount it.

I have the paintier (2 actually) but they take up too much of my desk so have just bought 2 of these:

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

I use this:

However, I don't think the shop still makes them. I like them becuase they fit neatly flush against a wall, and can store a good number of paints.

My workspace, far clearner than it's been since:
