sounds like the way to go Dark_Gear - thanks for that. Hopefully I can be astonishingly lazy and get the laser cutter to do it for me!
When I was having a go at it this morning, I even changed blades on my scalpel thinking I had a blunt one in, but no, it was just a bitch to cut. Doesn't help that I was aiming for perfect 23mm circles on my first attempt! Bladey things hopefully a bit easier as it's a longer cut...

Umm, why 23mm? Are you making your own bases?

If so, why not use another of my tricks.

Glue the really rough cut circles of plasticard to the base with plastic cement, not crazy glue. Let sit for 20 minutes or until fully cured. File smooth. Voila, perfect circular addition to existing base.

Just caught myself up on the blog mate!

That was a real shame about the Golden Daemon but your new plans look even better than before, i'm sure you'll blow the judges away this time round!

I'm going to be watching for progress eagerly from now on!

a 25mm base is 25mm at the bottom - the actual flat bit at the top has a 23mm diameter.
That's a good suggestion Dark_Gear, I like it (still means fiddly cutting out of the markings... ) I haven't had a chance to get on the laser cutter this week, but apparently it's doable, we just have to fiddle with the settings/power levels and then run away when it's working as the fumes will probably kill us

@Hyena - the Craftworld Eldar are still knocking around, just taking a bit of a break from them

Thanks Casey >fingers crossed<

... slow going on the DEldar - the greenstuffing is almost done, but it does take a while for it to dry properly, and I tend to get distracted while it's doing that. Plus I'm back into work-mode, so I'm not getting whole lot done during the week.

Just had another go at the plasticard, and I just don't think I'll be able to get it clean and sharp enough doing it by hand, especially all the tight corners on the symbols. So I'll wait and see if the lasercutter is any better. Hectic week at work coming up with our Department Review, AND, the 'cutter is on the fritz, so I'll wait until it's been serviced to have a go. I'll have to get everything drawn up in Illustrator first anyway.

SOMETIMES I have a lot of free time, yes. During term-time, no, especially with my new fitness regime as well.

Are you implying that teachers do something constructive?

Oh, the shame!
I'm a weak, weak man, and my breaking-stain-of-a-Kit Kat-willpower has plummeted to new lows. Either that, or Games Workshop is indeed an Evil Empire, and they have perfected their mind control technologies, and global domination will soon follow.
/looks meek and ashamed
I pre-ordered the Hobbit set (with the Company and Radagast). Rest assured Dakka-chums, I shall be punishing myself throughout the day!

I even bought White Dwarf too!
Clearly I'm having some sort of emotional breakdown and I am just going crazy. Crazier.

minor update: apparently the laser cutters are all fixed at work, so they're good to go - yey! I'll try to remember to take the plasticard in tomorrow so I can have a play around with it. I've drawn up the bases on Illustrator and lots of bladey things, so we'll see how they turn out.

Still ashamed of the Hobbit pre-order.

Even more ashamed that I'm actually a little excited about getting my hands on the Hobbit stuff!

Just remember, if you're exited about the hobbit stuff, perhaps one of your GD entries for next year can be with that.

I would expect them to allow those in under the LotR, or they'll change the LotR categories to be 'The Hobbit' categories... or even add 'The Hobbit' Categories.

I hadn't even thought about that side of it - I was just assuming that they'd go in the LotR category... I wonder if they'd expand it to two categories? Or perhaps just have a Middle Earth category?
... have already considered doing a Thorin Chopping Off A Goblin's Head diorama... lol
(also, doing Radagast for LotR/Hobbit single miniature... I'm just waiting to see how he actually comes out in the flesh - I would have preferred the patterning on his coat to not have been sculpted on, so I'll need to have a look at it and consider how I'd tackle it)

LOTR has been replaced by The Hobbit now.

Not really replaced, the rules in the Hobbit are for both.
Or, at least, that's what the GW website said yesterday, seems they've changed it...

The Hobbit rule book shows pictures of LotR armies (not Hobbit: an unexpected journey warbands) battling each other...

Well, yes, it'll still have rules for LOTR, but it's effectively an edition change, just instead of say, 6th edition to 7th edition it's Lord of the Rings to The Hobbit.

ah, I thought you meant as in LOTR is gone, forever and that you have to play the hobbit, and can't follow the story of Frodo...

but, yes, you are right, it i basically an edition change

Let me rant for a moment Dakka chums.

I ordered some pigments from an online store at the start of the month, and when they hadn't arrived almost two weeks later, I e-mailed the store politely asking if they had a dispatch date. The reply I got was that they hadn't been dispatched, but would be the next day.
Not overly pleased at that, but I wasn't in a huge rush, and at least they were on their way.
Ten days later, still no pigments, so I e-mailed the company again asking for a tracking number. After a day, I got a reply with the tracking number as well as:
"I would suggest you to just have some patience "

I've just replied in a polite, yet annoyed way saying that I have already shown patience, especially considering the delays in that product already and that I expect prompt service from retailers, not advice to be patient. (the products still haven't arrived btw)
Now, is this just me pushing further into Grumpy Old Manhood, that I'm being narky about a flippant reply from a retailer to a product that hasn't arrived 24 days after the purchase date? I told a couple of friends about it tonight over dinner and they were outraged... I was a bit gobsmacked myself when I read it yesterday, and it still seems an incredible thing for a service provider to say to a customer. I'm actually a little impressed with myself for not replying immediately and with considerably more venom and vitriol than I did. Am I over reacting?

... rant over.

I also had a go on the laser cutter yesterday and got some stuff cut out - I'll try and do a proper update tomorrow with some pics for you.

Frankly, no.
The fact that after 2 weeks they simply hadn't even dispatched it, then almost a month after giving them your money, you don't have your product - 2 emails is hardly 'impatient'.

If you paid with paypal, I'd open a dispute. I also wouldn't purchase anything from them again.

A little while back I had some things take longer than they should to arrive, including the C. Land Raider to finish my CSM and some bits for Halloween. (was ultimately completely Royal Mails fault) but throughout the whole thing the owner kept in regular contact, replying swiftly to all emails, was apologetic, and queried royal mail for me.
While it arrived 10 days late, I have no problem with the store because of the owners response and attitude, and will use them again.
If they'd behaved as the guy you're dealing with has, not a chance.
