Some of you may recognize me for my pictured Sisters of Battle Reports. If you do then you are well familiar how ragtag my army looks. None of its vehicles are properly primed nor painted. Many of my models are painted and none are based. Shortly after my 9th battle report, I decided to put a temporary halt on my battle reports and give my models proper attention they deserve. I'm also expanding my army to the infamous Immolator Spam!

A Little About Myself:

I started playing Warhammer 40,000 in late 2007 a little before Orks 4th edition came out. My first army was Tau. Since then I've expanded and now proudly own 3500 points of Tau, 2250 points of Sisters of Battle, 2360 points of Deathwing, and 5000 points of Dwarfs.

Now I admit I'm more of a gamer then a painter. What really attracted me to Warhammer 40k was more of the gaming aspect then painting. My Tau army is a testament being entirely done in a "quick and dirty" fashion. I bought and painted 2000 points worth in less then a month. It wasn't anything fancy, just primed black and basecoat Shadow Grey with a heavy wash of Badab Black. The bases were primed Dheneb Stone, basecoat Shadow Grey, and dry brushed Skull White. I just wanted a complete painted army before I started any long term projects.

-My Tau Army Complete

After a while I got bored of playing Tau. Their play style rarely changes and they get their arse handed to them in 5th ed. They are mid tier, one of the few armies that gets boned the most in moral checks, lack armor save denial, weak against horde and AV spam, and struggles agaisnt MEQ. I tried various armies including Chaos Space Marines Undivided, Deathwing, and Blood Ravens (SM:C 5th ed). I finally landed on Sisters of Battle.

I started playing Sisters shortly after 5th edition was release. I thoroughly enjoyed their rules, fluff, and also because its an army made up entirely of female models! Their faith makes them versatile, they are fearsome as a mechanized force, they have powerful models (Exorcist, Jump Canoness with 2++ from Cloak + SoTM), they are one of the few all metal armies (metal feels good), and benefit from 5th ed changes. On top of that, they were uncommon in gaming community. Unfortunately they are one of the most expensive armies out there. Fortunately I was able to land a few lucky deals off Ebay and with some moderate conversion, made a fearsome mechanized force.

Immolator Spam Project:

stjohn70's LVGT Report inspired me to start an Immolator Spam army. The thought of having hordes of vehicles, which can move at cruising speed and still fire its TL-Heavy Flamers, has me drooling. Its tactics is relatively simple. Target saturation with great anti-tank and anti-horde. Here's an Immolator Spam list I'm working towards:

-2000pts Immolator Spam (optimal)

As mentioned above, I've begun turning my ragtag army into a proper Sisters of Battle army upgraded to Immolator Spam. I hope to have my army finished in time for April GT.

Here's the beginnings of my Immolator Spam Army:

My vehicles will have magnetized banners. You can find the tutorial here:

-Magnetize Banners on Sisters of Battle Vehicles

All of my vehicles will be painted using a color scheme according to their force organization type. So far I've completed painting three out of 12 vehciles and 10 out of 56 Sisters of Battle models.

Here's my first squad of Battle Sisters:

A while back I finished painting my first Immolator. Here's a few pictures of my Celestian Immolator:

Dominion Immolator:

Recently I have finished painting a Dominion Immolator. It's slighting different compared to my Celestian Immolators. For start the Immolator top is red, signifying that they are weapons specialists packing heat. While not implimented, it will bear defining symbols painted onto the banner.

I like seeing and SoB blog, But I have to say I am not a fan of the color scheme. The red and clashes with all the blue, and the white looks chalky.

I would suggest using a soft black wash instead of blue, and painting all the windows like stained glass. Also adding some more depth to the reds might help too it looks a little flat.

Have you thought of a slogan to put on the banners, and scrolls?

Keep it coming!

Alas my paint scheme will remain unchanged. I will try to add more layers of white to make the tanks look "crispier". Eventually the windows will be semi-tinted.

My banners will look very similar to the ones displayed on Immolator box. There will be a large icon symbolizing the the vehicle FoC type. The Order of the Ebon Chalice symbol will be used representing Dominions. The Order of the Sacred Rose symbol will be used representing Celestians. The Order of the Argent Shroud Symbol will be used representing Battle Sisters. THe Order of Our Martyred Lady symbol will be used to represent HQ. Last the large Inquisitorial "I" will be used to represent Heavy Support. Bottom left will be fleur de lys and bottom right will be an Inquisitorial "I". A white T with black lining will divide the three icons.

I may also attach icons that came with the sprue.

Cool army. I was also really impressed with StJohn's army, but we had a local Witch Hunter player, so I never built one. Hope to see further progress with the army.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Thanks for comments!

I just finished doing a conversion using Games Workshop Sister with Power Maul model, spare Flamer nozzle bit I clipped off during my Heavy Flamer Sister conversion (see Battle Sister squad), and Canoness Power Sword and twin flames Back Pack.

I started out by snipping the power maul off the Sister Superior and hand + sword grip right below the hand guard on the Canoness' Power Weapon bit.

I used a small drill and pinned the two together. It wasn't easy given small size of the sword. Right before I super glued the Sister Superior's hand to the sword, I cushioned the joint with a small ball of green stuff.

After that I drilled a small hole into the underslug bolter grenade launcher and back end of the flamer nozzle.

Which I pinned.

Here's what the final conversion looks like:

At the moment I haven't decided whether to use the Canoness' twin flames backpack or a regular Sisters Back Pack. This model will represent one of two Battle Sister Veteran Sister Superiors. If I use the twin flames back pack, then I must use it for my OOP Canoness model. Unfortunately the back pack bit conflicts with her elbow. Thus I may end up using a regular back pack and all three twin-flame back packs for my future Dominion Sister Superior models.

While WYSIWYG would say that's a combi-flamer, I'd prefer using it as a Brazier of Holy Fire.

My Heavy Flamer Sister conversion involves using a Battle Sister with Flamer model and Cadian Shock Troop Flamer bits. Snipped a few bits here and there and used green stuff.

Here's a few pics showing my conversion:

Just finished painting 90% of my OOP Canoness model, which will serve as a Veteran Sister Superior in my upcoming Immy Spam army. While I have a consistent color scheme for the body, I'm still brainstorming on how I will paint the face, hair and base.

Thanks! My Immy Spam project is progressing smoothly. Four vehicles and both Battle Sister squads are painted. After April GT I'll resume posting battle reports for my Sisters of Battle. For now I have two reports of my other two armies in the works.

As I promised, I finished painting the second Battle Sister Squad. Working on the two Rhinos.

I also got my hands on Ogyrn Flesh Wash, which was recommended to me for painting faces. I'll experiment with it and decide whether to include it in my standard paint scheme.

Due to a short-fall in budget, I won't be able to fund an additional 3 "Sister Superior with Chain Sword and Bolt Pistol" models to my Immy Spam army. Instead, I found a cheaper alternative using my 3 Retributor models and a handful of close combat weapons + bolt pistols I've collected in my hunt for 3 twin flame Canoness backpacks.

Credit goes to FalcesImperatoris who came up with the idea of using a Retributor Heavy Bolter model combined with Canoness Bolt Pistol, Close Combat Weapon, and Flame Back Pack. Here's a picture of FalcesImperatoris' conversion: http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e317/tacotheif/SisterSuperior.jpg

Eventually I'll create something similar to FalcesImperatoris' conversion (though nowhere near as detailed or beautifully painted) except I will use twin-flame back packs instead.

After field testing a variation of the Immy Spam list I posted in over 10 games, I'm changing my Immolator Spam army to include trade in 2 IST in Immolators with 2 Exorcists instead.

So far I've painted 8 more bolters girls who will become part of my future 4 Celestian squads. I'm also in the final stages of painting two Battle Sister Rhinos.

Sadly my 2 Exorcists, 1 Immolator, and 10 Cadian Shock Troop boxes have still not arrived. It's been over two months now and I'm getting extremely fed up. If worst comes to worst, I'll order it from GW in 3 weeks before the tournament and demand a refund from the original vendor I bought it from.

I just got back from competing in my first major GT. Up until now, I've been playing in small local tournaments, so this was a real treat for me. Unfortunately I haven't had a lot of game play with my experimental Immy spam list because of school work and other personal related matters. In fact, I only had 6 real games and a couple practice ones online (on a program that shall not be named, but starts with a letter "V" ).

Here's my list: http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=251414

I won 2 games, draw 2 games, and lost 1 game. In battle points I placed 9th out of 22 competing players. Not great, not bad, just a little above average. Overall I had a blast. Even though I didn't do as well as I hoped, I'll continue to play and overtime perfect Immy Spam.

Later, I may post a brief summary of how my games went in Dakkadakka's battle report section. Unfortunately the tournament organizers banned pictures, filming, or audio-recording game play, so this will be a lot different from my usual detailed and narrative battle reports.

Alas I wasn't able to finish painting my 2000 points Immolator Spam army in time for the GT. With one day left, I made a mad dash substituting my Pipe Organs with Whirlwind missile launchers turret for a cheap and quick Exorcist conversion.

Now that the GT is over, I can set aside time to bringing up my army to decent tabletop quality. I'm keeping my eyes open for future local tournaments in the Bay Area.

Here's a pic of what my army looked like before the GT:

Normally I don't purchase terrain pieces. I don't have enough space in my room to fit a 6' x 4' table dedicating to playing Warhammer, which is why I frequent local gaming stores. However, one terrain piece has caught my attention.

The Chapel of Sanctuary is stunning work of art. It's one of the few models made by GW that is sold fully painted. Unfortunately, it's out of production. GW no longer sells terrain made out of resin or pre-painted.

After browsing E-bay, I bought one for $85. It's a hefty price, but totally worth it. This coming from a guy who bought the old metal Daemonette models and two Imperial Guard female Commissars. :p

Box finally arrives.

Opening box.

Comes in two parts.

Assembled view of inside.

Assembled view from outside.

Unfortunately, the Chapel of Sanctuary isn't perfect. My guess is the resin didn't set right during production. Hence why it took so long for GW to finally release resin models, which know today as resin fincast (which also has a history of production flaws).

After toiling round for 10 minutes, I noticed a couple of rocks blocking part of the wall. Rummaging through my tool kit, I found a cutter meant to sheer bolts off.

Snipped both rocks off.

Now the wall is snug tight.

Unfortunately, there's still a noticeable gap in the back. Not much can be done, except passing it off as building structure damage.

Edit:

Oh yeah, almost forgot. A while back, I bought two more Immolators for my Immy Spam army. However, I might shelve this project depending on 2nd half release of white dwarf codex Sisters of Battle.

A couple weeks ago, I won an Ebay auction for a Flying Canoness sculpted by a famous sculptor back in 2007, when he/she used to do commissions. It used to be listed on coolminiornot.com, but was taken down around the same time I won the auction.

It's an impressive model and well detailed. Her wargear makes her ideal to be a stand in for Saint Celestine.

One day, I hope to commission a Golden Demon winner to paint this gorgeous model with the same color scheme as my army.

Lately, I've been painting my Exorcists.

After a couple of trial and errors, I've settled on a paint scheme for the Organ barrels. It's still not complete yet, but here's a few pictures of what my organ barrels look like:

Front

Right Side

Left Side

Rear

My paint scheme is simple. Prime white, base the organ pipes Vallejo Red followed by Citadel's Gehenna's Gold and a heavy wash of Vallejo Lavado Sepia Shade. The silver-ish parts of the organ is done using Games Workshop Ironbreaker followed by Vallejo Lavado Black Shade.

As for the exorcist base: Vallejo Red and later Citadel Agrax Earthshade. I could use Vallejo Lavado Umber Shade, but I don't know if it has the same opacity as the Citadel version.

For your Flying Canoness, you can ask Frontline Gaming for a quote. Let them know you want a Level 3 paint job (I believe that is the best). The ones I normally get are Level 2.

You can look in the Painting & Modeling Showcase forum for their Commissions thread to see their work.

Wow, I'm touched that my Sisters of Battle battle reports inspired other players to start and play Sisters armies.

I've played them a couple of times in 6th ed and lost each game. That's not to say they are non-competitive. In Bay Area Open 2013, a Sisters of Battle player placed 16th out of 144 players. It seems Sisters of Battle have to take allies to remain competitive. Most of the Sisters armies I saw at that tournament paired up with Grey Knights. The only other Imperial army that I own is Blood Angels pure Assault Marines. I haven't tried SoB + Sisters, but there should be good synergy between the two. Sisters are close ranging shooting specialist while Blood Angels are close combat specialist. Another combo I would love to try is Sisters + IG.

When I have time and sick and tired of playing my Tau (who just recently got a new codex so getting sick and tired will take some time), I'll play and report a few Sisters of Battle games.

My Sisters will make a comeback in 6th edition, but it won't be pure Sisters.

You should keep the Faith with your Sisters. I am doing pretty well with them in 6th, have taken away Best General a couple of times and come second at a small tournament at Warhammer World. I used to run a squad of Guard Vets w/ 3x Plasma Guns in a Chimera, with a Hydra as allies. I have had some good success with pure Sisters in friendly games, but suffer against fliers. You can mitigate that with the extremely poor Avenger, or you can just take your licks and sit on objectives.

As to your Army, it looks great. You really should keep going, every sisters Army is generally a unique accomplishment in it's own area, so it would be a crime to give up on it!

Here's a quick update to my Sisters of Battle army.

I've acquired 9 Heavy Bolter Retributors. I can now field 3 squads of 4 Heavy Bolter Retributors. However, 7th ed has made mech armies popular again, meaning my Exorcists may see more action.

Unfortunately, I've been super lazy and haven't painted anything. I should make it a habit to paint at least one model a day.

Army wide picture:

58 Bolter Sisters:

14 Vehicles

3 units of 8 Seraphims. 3 units of 4 Heavy Bolters

6 Heavy Flamers. 13 Flamers. 16 Meltaguns. 3 Storm Bolters

1 Canoness. 1 Saint Celestine. 1 Female Comissar (Jacob). 12 Superiors. 4 others.
