2001, but still amazing achievements, surprising how long a company can treat it's fans poorly and still survive. Glad to see you back and motivated to working on some of the older pieces.

Wellll, I got another battle in...which is amazing!

My opponents, Brady and Brandon. Brady's a nice Necron player, doesn't push the limits. Brandon's a Necron-tainted Iron Hands player, who is new to 7th, and had fond memories of 3rd.

I brought an incredibly silly IG list. Let's begin.

We rolled the perfect mission for my army's silliness level. Hammer and Anvil, 'The Relic'. I can't POSSIBLY win. But I can provide a very good time.

1500 Points.

My army:
Fortress of Redemption with the Krakstorm Upgrade
2x Command Squad, Kurov's Aquila (everyone in the fort has preferred enemy, effectively), 2x Master of Ordinance
2x Vet Squad, grenade launchers (the fort is now nothing but BS4)
2x Hellhounds
2x Wyverns

annnnd...

A Baneblade.

I roll my Warlord Trait, Tactical Genius. I put the hellhounds and the 'blade into Outflanking reserve. How they didn't hear the Baneblade coming, I'll never know.

I have ZERO ability to take and hold the Relic. Or anything else, for that matter. I brought an army to team up with someone else at 750 or provide an epic amount of firepower to bomb the heck out of someone.

Spoiler:
They won 3VP to my 2VP. I almost had 3, but I forgot to back my hellhounds up.

Their Army:

Brandon brought a techmarine on a bike, a couple of squads in Rhinos, and a Vanguard squad with TH/SS.

Brady had 3 Wraiths, 3 Destroyers, a squad of Warriors, a squad of Immortals, a Ghost Ark, and a Command Barge with his lord.

Necrons take the Warlord, and gain the Cityfight trait, bonus cover and move through cover (ruins). Perfect!

PROTIP: The new Reanimation Protocols are disturbing. a 5+ super feel-no-pain save.

This is my entire starting position:

And here's their lineup:

Uneasy Allies.

They advance quickly to the Relic, but even with move through cover, it'll take a couple of rounds to get to it in the building. Meanwhile, I start the orbital bombardment, smashing buildings, Marines and Necrons. The barge goes down early, along with both Rhinos. Wraiths take a beating, but Brady is rolling saves like a champ.

And then the Outflanking occurs.

The Techmarine survives long enough to plasma-and-beatstick one Hellhound into scrap for the Machine God. This is where I forget linebreaker.

The Necrons turn around, and in two turns glance the 'blade to component particles, which predictably explode. The lone Necron Warrior survives the apocalyptic blast, and will get a new paint job to show his status as 'the one'.

Here, we see Brandon very excited to receive a beating.

The Vanguard vets arrive, and proceed to knock on the door. The vets answer the door with a pile of lasguns and krak grenades, killing two of the five. the remaining members would jump up to the battlements, force the hatch open, and return the grenades. Heavy hand to hand combat ensues, but the vets manage to kill one, and hold their ground inside the bunker.

Knock, knock!

The wraiths grab the relic, but are whittled down to a single wraith. Things are very, very tight as Brandon moves some forces in to try and pick up the Relic, should it be dropped. To their credit, they really focused on the Mission, and this carried they day for them. The command barge delivers the final blow.

At the end, they had a couple of Vanguard Veterans and a couple of Marines on foot, a couple of Immortals, a couple of Destroyers, one Warrior, and one Wraith-with-a-relic.

Everyone had a ton of fun, and they really enjoyed the thematic battle of having to retrieve the relic under massive city-leveling bombardment.

Necron/Marines: 3VP (The Relic)

Imperial Guard: 2VP (Slay the Warlord, First Blood)

Hello! Have some bunkers! Next up, some baseboards for them, for maximum stability.

I love the designers of these terrain pieces, but damn do they suck to build.

The card stock warps easily, and while they do have the plastic bulkheads, they're not used at all the junctions of the card stock. So, really, I should have broken out my squaring jigs.

Not enough actual fighters.

So, the board, which is the new thing, was an experiment. Printing out tile-able textures from the internet (typically used for them video games) and gluing them to mdf boards. And they look great! So very cheap.

Indeed they do. Is the table top one solid piece, or are there sections that can be moved & rearranged to create different designs for the table?

They're my standard 1/4" mdf sections from Home Despot/Lowes. 2'x4'.

I used wood glue for this experiment, in future, I'll probably stick (ha) with my gold standard, 3M's Super77.

In OTHER news...

After being lost since at least the beginning of the year, I have found my stash of decals. this is especially important because I own dozens of the original 1991-era decal sheets, which have symbols and designs no longer produced by the Gee-Dubs.

This includes an entire stack of about twenty Epic-Scale Imperial decals.

Tank painting can re-commence, my wallet breathes a deep sigh of relief.

And so, the ladies come out to get their winter coats. There's a pair of leman russ and a chimera still in constructionville, or boxlandia.

About half way to the 15 Russ Chassis needed to fill a Combined Arms Detachment...

And thus the blog has come full circle. It began with winterised imperial guard tanks before going through a series of distractions and has now returned to the winterised tanks. They look really impressive.

I just read through all 106 pages of your blog and you have made some impressive stuff. Good job and keep it up.

Still waiting for Godot.
