REALLY?! You guys like the middle one the best? Wow, I find that super surprising. Thanks for all of the feedback but I like the middle guy the least. Is there any reason why guys all agree on the middle one? What about him jumps out at you guys?

Maybe its the picture. I am looking at the real model next to me. Perhaps I should get out my camera and see how it comes out, then we can reevaluate.

For me it is probably that it looks slightly more natural and a bit brighter than the rest.

No. 1 is too dark, nice contrast though with the green.
No. 2 is very cool, but I like the life in the others this is dead.
No. 3 is bright and has life to it, nice colour with the yellow accent, could vary the leaf colour through the autumn range.
No. 4 is a bit artificial for me, the red bark.
No. 5 is a very close second for me, has a nice feel to it, colours are good, apart from for some reason I feel it is a little orange, as opposed to brown on the bark.

Now to be completely honest, they all look brilliant and great work all round. I am being really finicky with those comments, I think any of them would make a spectacular army.

Thanks Cam. I will continue to mess around with these paint schemes. I plan on having a nice mix of colors, as you can see, the only consistent factor will be the green runes. I think the spirit of durthu will be painted more like No. 2, with his giant sword being menacing and green. I may have to try my hand again at No 3. I can't place a finger on why I don't like him. No 1, his brown is mixed with purple. You can not really tell in the picture but it makes the leaves look very vibrant. There will be more of that for sure. No 4, in natural light, doesn't look nearly as red as the picture makes it.

More experimenting is required, and better pictures.

On a side note, this weekend has been beautiful. I will be priming some Kharadron company at some point.

PHOTO DUMP!
It happened to be a gorgeous day today so I snapped some photos. I apologize for some of the lighting issues that natural light causes but I think you may still get a good idea of what is happening with my Sylvaneth. First up, all of my recent painting projects.

Here is my Branchwych.

Lots of Dryad Pictures. Please give me feedback on these guys. Thanks!
Purple and Red

The whites.

The brown one that everyone seemed to love came out SUPER dark. You can hardly see him. I will try again here soon to have an improved picture. I also have four more dryads on deck, currently being washed. When this is all done it looks like I'll have three "squads, or units, or copse, or hedge?" Whatever, I'll have three groups based on paint scheme to work with. Current Treelord is of the brown variety. I'll paint my durthu spirit in the white scheme. I am not sure I'll end up with another treelord model, but that would cover everybody I have thus far.

Now see that group shot is excellent, all that variety and colour really works for me.

And it would depend on the formation, in line they would be a privot, but in general they would be a shrubbery surely!

I like that Cam, lol.

I had game two in the escalation league. I played Orruks for the first time. I was destroyed but the game was a blast. My local shop wired my table and myself and it was streamed live on their facebook page, which was hilarious. Nothing like people from around the world critiquing your game play.

In new projects, i finished the previous 4 on deck and started another 4.

This is the beginning of my spirit of durthu. I figured he would look good in white.

And it does indeed.. I think I like the lighter wood looks aged. This one give a nice dried drift wood look . I suggest having the spouting parts go from the white to brown to the green to show new growth.

Like where your going with this guy!

Today I managed a battle of Age of Sigmar. 1700 points of Sylvaneth and Free People versus High Elves and random forces of Order. The battle scenario was called Places of Power, there were three objectives that only heroes could hold and get points on. Here is the set up.

I am at the bottom. My army consists of about 1250 of Sylvaneth and then a unit of Free People crossbowmen, hand gunners, and a cannon. The other side of the table is a whole bunch of high elves, a doom seeker, a cogsmith, a unit of arkunaut company, and a Khrybdiss. The objectives are in the very center of the board, the building on the left and in the graveyard on the right. He gets turn one. He has mediocre results but did manage to charge his griffon directly at my Spirit of Durthu. He does two wounds to me. I kill him outright.

These pictures give you an idea of the carnage that proceeded the opening salvo. The Spirit of Durthu was amazing as was the cheap Empire crossbowmen. My cannon shot twice every turn and only hit on the last turn in which it killed out right the high elf repeater bolt thrower. On his side of things his Reavers killed one of my branchwyches on the first turn. They then proceeded to harass my flank until my treelord caught up to them. His swordmasters were chewed up on their march across the board but died under a hail of crossbow bolts. My dryads proved to be surprisingly resilient this game, they usually aren't. When turn 5 rolled around he only had his cogsmith, everything else was dead. I killed the smith in turn 5. The interesting thing was that he managed more victory points then I. It ended 10 to 9. He did not have a single model on the board but from what we determined, he won the battle. His cogsmith sat on the objective the whole game and was raking in points while I could do nothing until I got through his screen.

Overall the game was a blast. He did get a little frustrated with some of his rolls near the end as it seemed once he started to loose a grip on the battlefield his rolls seemed to worsen. I think next time he will be a little smarter with his griffon, if he brings him at all. The griffon has a very poor track record in my house for some reason. Part of my goal today was to try out two free people units, the gunner and crossbowmen. They are the same points, they share similar rules. I can't explain why, but the crossbowmen appeared to be leagues better. Could have just been the situation but had you looked at the set up you would have thought it the other way around.

Any ways, enough blabbering. Have a great night guys. Thanks for the comments. I hope you like my small break down of our game. I can not wait to have another one to share.

Oh, one last thing. I ordered some Sylvaneth trees. It is really silly to play a Sylvaneth army without them, FYI.

This is out of character for me... but I don't see how an army that has been wiped out... can in any way win the battle. Victory points or no.... you've been slaughtered. One guy left? Fine, you're in. But no guys left?? Nope... you're toast.

Agreed, my understanding is: If you are not able to finish out the game then it becomes a forfeit/concede

That is my understanding however.

Im glad you guys liked the report. I did not intend to start a debate on winning conditions. After seeing the pictures again, i have decided that i need to make those unpainted terrain pieces a priority. I have been very pleased with my board over the years and after the trees arrive and the buildings are painted I'm not sure what else my boards would need.

Thoughts?

Wow Ice, now there's frozen trees to marvel at too? I don't know if you're still looking for input, but I myself love the 'dead-tree' looking one from the group of five, thats a direction I haven't really seen with these new models, plus, as in your group shot of the white ones, you can add the start of new life. I think they fit your style the most, personally

You are lucky that in this ruleset that the cannon can't just blow up. In my 8th games, all the cannons blew up always. Dang misfires!

Thanks bbl. Im glad you agree.

Moonpie, i think when the league gets to 2000 points. I'll be bringing an engineer and more cannons to reroll my misses for all nearby cannons. Do you have 4?

I have a question for you fine gents. My sylvaneth all have green swirls of power. Durthu will too. His leaves will be either be green or purple. What color should i make his glowing eyes and mouth? The same? A contrasting color? What are your thoughts?

You need 4 cannons or 4 engineers?

It would take some building, but yes, I have 4 cannons. I have an updated inventory on the bl0rg.

Great orange. I think the stripes look good, though the shoulder ones could maybe be abit closer/denser?
