Yes, I think they look wonderful even though my IG characters hate them. The darker more realistic style is better. Most Marine armor colors just scream out for attention. The Eliminators shouldn’t subscribe to that.

The secret to painting a really big army is to keep at it. You can't reach your destination if you never take any steps.

I build IG...lots and lots of IG.

They were proxied in my last game, Scouts blue tacked to 40mm bases, but I've no idea when I'll get to play a game again, stupid apocalypse.

Thanks, I think it's my best effort so far.

Yes as an IG player too I feel your pain, IG need their characters more than most too. You can't even just hide them behind a Russ as these guys can shoot round corners. Yes I always find it funny when you see the old Scouts too in camo cloaks and white jump suits...

Been able to do a bit on the dread and blue tack out the laser Elim squad, so some pics will follow eventually.

So I've managed some more progress..

This guy has been plugged away at..

Slowly getting there..

Here I've washed and done the first stage of highlights. I'll try to get a bit more in as he's approaching completion (ish).

The next thing I'm lining up is my mini lascannon team...they are roughly blue tacked out in likely poses...

I trimmed off the pouches on the Reiver legs here...

So I can mount his powerpack thingy..

Not sure if I should trim off the other side and put a pistol there, mostly so the legs are less obviously Reiver ones..

In other news MLCS very kindly set up a game of 40k on Table Top Simulator for us, so far we've managed turn 1 but we'll be able to finish that off soon. Once the 'proof of concept' 1k game is done, we might do a BattRep in it (seeing as we're not allowed in the same house). Let me know if that would be interesting..

Hope everyone is coping with all the madness. I'm feeling a bit more inspired so I hope to do a bit more painting.

Hello.

I've not found much time (ironically) to get some painting in but I've been able to push on with the Ven Dread..

All the main base colours are highligted and shaded now..

So I've started adding the details...chapter logo on the right (his) like all my other units....

Dead No. here...

Company No. and generic battle honour on other leg...note travel chess groinal attachment too....once the first pass was done on these I went over and tidied and then messed them up with cracking/scratches...

These too have had another layer...the white has had brown chips and some Argax drips, getting a bit bleached out here...

A bit more obvious on this pic..

First Co. logo has had laurels added...

I've started his basing proper here...the cream panel has been cut so it will lie at an angle and is from the KT box terrain. The brown panel under his foot is from the Galvanic walkway thing I got from CONQUEST! The matrix of stuff it's all sat in is your basic polyfilla kind of stuff..

I've a last pass of scratches and highlighting to do on the hull and, obviously, finishing the base and it's all done.

Not sure what to do next, maybe the terrain walkway thingy, it's all undercoated and ready to go...

Hopefully some finished pics on this guy next...

Hi Randy,

Loving your recent work. I can't agree with Nevelon re the washing machine dreads (Contemptors are best) but I do have lovely vivid memories of getting the first 2nd edition metal 'Blood Angel's Furioso' it its bright red box. It cost £25 quid and for that you could have got loads of actual penny sweets and individual snouts and bla bla zzzzzzzzzz...

Huh? Sorry I must have reminisced myself asleep.

Primaris Snipers came out really well. I'm looking forward to seeing the Reiver bits bashed ones too as they will be even more unique.

Hugs and kisses - let's finish that TTS battle sometime. Mwa x

*THE XENOS*

The white has a little more nuance that always gets bleached out in these pics..

Converted ML, I like it and think it adds a nice bit of originality, as does the Contemptor head, which I think fits much better now it's painted.

The base. The panels started brown and were then dry brushed silver. Then stippled orange and finally inked with Argax and Reikland. I added chips back on with Mitheral. I think the 'shot-thru-the-head' skull was off a Black Reach(around) Terminator.

I'm happy with him though he will probably be my last 'washing machine of death' type Dread. I do now have 3. He joins the Comtemptor in my 1st Co. contingent and the 2 fancy Dreads are mean to the other two 'standard' ones. Dicks.

I think I will start on that terrain next, it's very civic minded of me. Not sure how it'll turn out really but with enough washes anything will work(?). Hope you like the Hellfire Dread.

xx

Sorry for the slack reply. I've not been painting much at the mo. When I have free time in the eves I've a few recurring internet based meet ups and I'm often ready to just go to bed otherwise.

I did manage a tiny bit of terrain though.

I like the idea of joining the competition CB but the models I'm doing aren't scratch builds (and I wasn't planning on painting them super great), I could paint a red cross on the side of this thing....

It's a 3D print a friend chucked in with some printing he did for me a while ago. I sprayed in with the last of the Scorched Brown like spray we got from Halfords to do the KT terrain and then over brushed some Snake Bite analogue over it. I want to keep a similar tone to the other terrain so it sits nicely with it.

I then went over that with Bleached Bone which is the predominant colour of the other terrain. I added some silver to the supposedly bare areas..

I scumbled some orange over that and will ink it till it looks good.

If I can make it look good I will apply the recipe to this thing too...

Here's a bit more on the 3D printed terrain..

I gave it a few goopy washes and another dry brusjing...

Think it's ok..

I wanted it to be similar to the stuff I've already done so as not to be jarring when/if they're all there together..

Pew Pew, help I'm wearing the wrong camo!

I think I'll do the gantry thing next as this was quite quick to do.

I know, it's only the 2nd time I've really spent time doing terrain, the previous being the KT stuff. I never did it before. I have been pleased with the results and it's much nicer to play on.

I've started on the next bit, seen here...

In other news..

I stuck together a basic build on Eliminator squad No. 3. All squads are seen here, 2 with BSR and 1 squad with the Lasers..

These are Reiver bodies obviously and I think these legs go with the 'cradled pistol arms' much better than the stock build..

I'm going to replace the leg pouches with some sniper ammo left over from the OG squad and pistols (for close encounters)...

These are just rough sketches of poses so far, I was thinking of GS'ing their backpacks to give them the same camo wrapping the 'proper' models have. I may add tiny shoulder cloaks too..

The new squad..I may retcon the guy on the right to be resting his shooter on a bit of wall, may improve that pose that I'm not super happy with ATM...

So some gentle progress..hope you are all well etc.

Hello

Sorry for being absent so long, Lockdown wasn't a productive time for me with the kid never going anywhere, but now there's some school, at least for the next 2 weeks, I've been able to play with my toys a bit.

I'll show the terrain progress first..

I added silver and bronze areas..

The leg supports, I left brown and dry brushed silver a bit and filled in some metallic details.

I was aiming for a Victorian Cast Iron kind of look...

I added a very dilute orange/bronzed flesh to simulate rust...

I've finished this feature now but have yet to get any glamour shots yet..

I've also been building the next squad of Eliminators..

Seen here semi built, I've made basic covering for their back packs a la proper Eliminators..more on these guys soon.

Thanks, I got the Gantry cheap from Conquest! Pity that's over, there was some really good deals in it.

Here are the final pics from this project:

I added some chipping and drippy washes..I decided the big skull crane thing was too GrimDerp so I just left off the front and turned it around. Looks more spidery now.

Hadn't really used a very dilute colour wash to simulate rust before But I like how it's turned out...

Brothers! I see a new Edition coming!

It's all a bit bleached out here but I think the disparate elements of terrain tie together OK and will look nice on a Battlefield....just need to find the time to actually play a game now. 9th may provide an impetus and the points bump will mean some list jiggery pokery.

More on the Eliminators build soon!

I've been pressing ahead with these Elims..

Seen here, bluetacked together..I've added camo wraps to their back packs (badly) but I'm determined to no get too bogged down on these guys, and whilst building/painting them to a better standard than my mini Marine army, I don't want them to take as long as the completed squad of Elims (I've a 3rd to do as well). Also Table time may be a factor.

All that being said there's still a reasonable amount of conversion work needed here. I added the gun arm on with a basic blob initially. I cut down a spare Reiver arm and jammed that in place to take the binocs hand from the box. I also altered the angle of the head..

I cut down the ammo pouches so they are less excessive ....

I added a swirl of cloak as well as the binocs arm..

I tidied up the cloak bit and added a neat layer to his gun arm, I added an edge of shoulder pad too..

Here he is mostly finished...

This guy was simpler, His trigger arm is off the sprue but I had to cut down a Riever pad and and GS is all together. The support arm is also a Reivers with one of their shoulder pads too...It took a reasonable amount of fuss to get the power pack cables to match up with rifle, I shortened them and GS'd a join..

I added some cork 'rubble' to the end of the wall he's leaning against to blend it into the model more..

This guy was relatively simple too, he had a shoulder bit to add his arm into but the cloak sculpting just ends, so I decided to make a mini cloak/pelisse sort of thing..

This sort of deal..

I added some more crap to his base, including a spare power pack thing off the Elim sprue...

The 2 gunners had the 'tell tale' Reiver leg kits cut off, one side to allow the power pack thing to be mounted, the other a pistol..

Here they are built, I think the GS was tidied a bit after this but once painted the roughness won't show anyway. I'm pretty pleased with the conversions, I think they are effective whilst being as simple as possible.

I'll do the painting coverage soon...hope you like, especially as there's still another squad to do!

Ask and you shall receive!

Here they are base coated, I was planning on doing a less involved paint job on these guys, as previously mentioned, so was going to cut a few corners. There was a much lower square-footage of camo and that would save a lot of time too..

Ink washes on the camo..

Next I reapplied the base colours and then another wash of Argax in the recesses...

Finished!

Quite happy with them even though they took about half the time of squad 1...

I think the conversions are nicely hidden once painted...

Hot camo action..

Laser sniper..

I think he still looks like an Eliminator..

Other guy, he's supposed to be looking back to receive orders from the Sarge doing the 'Guided Aim' thing, I don't think the head is angled enough and that I got it placed better on a blue tacked version. I always find there's a nuance of pose I don't quite recapture when finally building a guy....I am not pulling his head off however...

And the obligatory 'missed mould line'. I added a brown stripe down the offending bit of the wall to make it look like a drip and it hides it a bit...Also just visible on his chest, a skull with radiating halo thing I added to give the appearance of being a proper Eliminator and not a repurposed Reiver. The bit is off the top the their special skull topped purity seal they have. I cut off ll their central skull & crossbones that Reivers get on their chest plates and removed the dangly parchemnt bits from the skull and filed it flatter. I then stuck it in roughly the same location as the sarge has his skull insignia...

Here are both completed squads hanging out and sharing their feelings. The last squad is in the building stage now and whilst I don't necessarily 'need' them for games, it would seem the efficiencies of doing them whilst I remember what goes where is probably worth it. I built a LT ages ago and may do him next, I may rebase him though...

Hope you like these guys. I'm pleased with them and look forward to finishing my little Phobos enclave for now (I've 6 painted Reivers collecting dust as well). Maybe we'll need to do another SCOUT FORCE! battle report eventually?

Thanks! Please only use your powers for good. The super power I've gained is a broken graphics card (FML). About half the time I used to play games has been spent painting. I've also been really enjoying it recently.

Nevelon wrote:Looking good all together.

Yes that's true. The BSR can actually kill characters occasionally and the laser dudes can really hurt big stuff. I'm out of Phobos bodies now but I've even found myself toying with the idea of building a Phobos Captain. As he'll be sitting around directing tanks etc he may as well be sniping at characters, he can deal 4 damage with a WL trait. I'll see what he costs in the new (leaked) points. I think I'm just enjoying painting Camo!

Speaking of which I found myself assembling squad 3...

I've covered the starting off of these guys, planning the poses and cutting off the leg kit so I can swap it...here they are all glued and I've started on the GSing..backpacks are done and arms are begun...

Here I've done the final layer on the arms and the basis of the mini cloaks can be seen on one guy. I've found starting small and adding layers is the easiest way of getting a good finish..

I think this is about 3 layers. I've added the edge of a pad too...

I've built up his base so he isn't sniping on tip toe now. These 2 bodies are pretty unsuited to being snipers really and took a bit of imagination to get working...

This guy had about 3 layers on his mini cloak as well...

I also added a purity seal to cover up a bit of a gap from where I removed the leg kit and replaced it with the ammo packs..

Squad leader was simpler, didn't have to build any large areas..

He gained a custom purity seal, the parchment bits of which where rescued from the sniper eliminator 'skull topped purity seal things' they have stuck on their ammo packs. The top of which is glued to his chest in place of the proper Elim skull badge..

Painting has even begun on these guys. So more soon. My kids ends the little bit of school he's been doing on Tuesday and the long summer begins. I'll have less time to play with myself and may be away a fair bit if I can swing it. So I want to get in the painting when I can and maximize my current enthusiasm.

Hope you like.

A little side note on trying to buy Indomitus.

I don't want most of the models but I'd like the Rulebook and some of the SM stuff. Buying it off a discounter for about £100 I would expect to make most of my money back and keep a few SM units and the rules. I prefer Darksphere games as I find them the best deal and super quick delivery. I have been hovering about their website for days and the had a pre-order pre-order system which was never open as far as I could see. It sold out before either scheme went live. I went to Element games where it costs the same as GW but you don't get the little tokens. So "Sod it" I say, I'll pay in full and buy off GW (for once, and I'd get the little bits!), only to find it sold out already! I try Wayland, whom I tend to avoid as they can be pretty bad but they had boxes and about a £10 discount. Their website was super slow however so I had to wait a few minutes after every click, all the time imagining all those last sets flying off....finally I get a conformation email so I think I've bought it!

I don't think I've seen something sell out before pre-orders are live before and GW itself selling out of something so major day one of pre order is pretty crazy. Still I'm planning on selling 70% of the box so the eBay market should be looking good!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Now Wayland is 'down for maintenance'!! Looks like that was close! It's still up on Element if you are looking yourself. I'm tempted to buy another to sell!

And they said they made tons of them so this wouldn’t be a problem. I told my FLGS that I wanted two boxes, but havn’t put any money down or anything. Hopefully they have a list that they respect. Never preordered here before. Some places are lured by cash on hand, or don’t track things.

Eliminators are coming along well. I should really paint up a squad of mine. One thing about the full kit is that it gives you so many spare bits. Did you want 3 squads of them in your army? Too bad, you are making them now. Seems a waste not too, and those phobos bodies are not going to do anything else on the table. I’ll probably make a captain myself, but it’s a low priority. I like the one GW makes, just balk a little at the price. But as the 10th company grows, tney do need their leadership...

Yes I remember them saying 'Everyone who wants one can get it'. We'll see. Wayland is out of stock now too. This is all before lunchtime on pre-order day! I hope Wayland don't cock up my order, makes me think about buying another off Element in case!

Yes the extra Elim bits aligned too nicely with the spare Reiver bodies from 'Wake the Dead'. Not to churn out another 2 squads would seem churlish. They are getting a bit more expensive in the new pts but were too cheap before so are still a good pick. I'd like to expand my 10th Co. stuff I've always had a soft spot for it (and 1st Co. obvs), the Captain is really expensive but so convertible it's not a big deal.

Aaaand Element are no longer selling it! They say GW are no longer distributing it? And it'll only be available on their website (which it isn't).

I always liked 1st and 10th lists thematically. You start with a bunch of scouts skulking about the battlefield, doing recon and making initial contact, shaping the battlefield. Then WHAM, drop pods full of sternguard slam down, and terminators step out of the imatierium and start the wholesale slaughter of the foes of mankind. Just a very satisfying playstyle, that fits the lore and the rules, and played well.

10th company works like that for a lot of mobility lists. Cheep troops you can start on the table (often infiltrated on the good spots) calling in backup once the enemy shows up in force. With 9th ability to pop anything in reserves, I think we might see more of this kind of play, at least at the fluffy theme level.
