Ian Sturrock wrote: Could it be easier to generate a new world, and 'drop' a load of interesting new biomes from it into the existing server...?
That's a bit more diffcult, given that biomes have specific characteristics besides blocks. Aspects such as grass shade, water shade, "temperature", weather type, specific mob spawns (see horses, mooshrooms) and who knows what else they'll tie to biomes in the coming updates.

Ma55ter_fett wrote: I dunno dark, you'd have a hell of a time copy and pasteing my place into a new world.
Yours is actually the easiest, it's so big that it's just a chunk level copy from bedrock to skylimit, and it is (or was) pretty square and self contained. It's the small but sprawling, scattered, odd shaped buildings that are annoying.
Yes I could copy an entire biome, I didn't say it would be impossible, just a lot more work. And it would probably be difficult to keep it from having square edges, because as far as I know MCEdit doesn't have a "free/draw select" option. Either way, it would be a lot of work for something that would end up looking rather rubbish.
However, I can't stress this enough. This is the first snapshot of what will be months of development. Let's at least hold off on any rash decisions for now.
My place would be ridiculous, because of all the underground railway I have going to my stable...
might it be an idea to remove all that and make do without, until closer to the time?
EDIT: "Stable" here meaning another building approximately 275 blocks from my house...

Right now, I doubt it. It requires Forge to hook into to grab the live stuff. However, there's no telling how far along the mod api will be by the time 1.7 is released, so who knows if there will be a vanilla compatible Dynmap (or if Overviewer will be able to make use of a mod api to do similar magic).

Absolutionis wrote: I heard that Quartz was a thing now. I guess it's rare in the Dakka Nether because most of everything within reach has been generated long before?
You do have to travel out a bit, but not too far and when you do, it's not really rare. Add a fortune pick and it certainly seems possible to build large with Quartz.

Now, in completely unrelated news, and coming from a conversation I had in-game last night, I have decided to add a new rule to the server.
It really is a shame (and slightly ridiculous) it has come to this, but here is the new rule, taking effect immediately from the time of this post:
If you moan, whinge, whine or complain about having to gather resources and/or create or build things in this game called Minecraft, perhaps this particular game is not for you and I reserve the right to ban you without any other reason.
Now I might be blind to any downside to this rule, so if anyone has any legitimate reasons against this rule let me know.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Cross posting this addition from the FTB thread for further clarification:
There is quite a difference between "I will" and "I reserve the right to". For example, I'm not going to ban someone for saying "Oh man, I have to go to the nether again!". This is mainly about the whining, particularly the persistent offenders. Most of you are well aware just how patient I am, so if I've never told you personally to stop moaning, you probably have nothing to worry about.

Some_Call_Me_Tim? wrote: Why the heck would someone complain about having to build stuff? The whole POINT of Minecraft is building stuff!
~Tim?
The building stuff is fun... the gathering stuff I can deal with in waves. I know I did some complaining about netherrack pages back, but when I get the itch to play minecraft again, I'll be back, mining it again so I can finish my planetarium.
DR:80+S++G+M+B+I+Pwmhd11#++D++A++++/sWD-R++++T(S)DM+ Ask me about Brushfire or Endless: Fantasy Tactics
Admittedly, mining is a chore, but it can be fun at times. I, personally, work in nice cycles where I get in the mood to explore/mine/horde stuff and the get bored and go into a planning/building phase. I end up taking breaks from the game if I stay in the planning/building phase for too long with not enough materials.
I was wondering if Darknnit will ever implement command blocks to our server. I've played with them and find them quite entertaining. Would be quite cool to have it when I build my labyrinth with monsters and a radius to ensure mob griefing only affects a certain area. Same with keep inventory
But eh. It won't. Oh well just an idea.

From whom are unforgiven we bring the mercy of war.
Hmn, portal updates, but I guess the Ftb root of adding linking books to them so as one might better designate which portal goes where isn't on the dev's agenda. It would seem that they're aiming to have a decent amount of content in 1.7, though its still little steps until the game has the amount of content that some of the mod packs provide.

They are trying. I really like that they are making dyes more renewable. Now if only they could do that with string
