Well he's my rather quick design for my own spur of the tunnel system. Hopefully it'll be easy enough for others to just tack on their own tunnels by knocking in one of the recesses.

Actually, having each of the different Cardinal Tunnels be a different design could be pretty cool.

also- only 420 stacks of cobble? That little? Wow. More doable than I thought!

Indeed, it could also help navigation without glancing at signs or your compass (F3).

Especially because compasses don't work in the Nether, IIRC.

If I could get to an ender chest, I have a fair amount of rails and such I could donate to the project.

In light of all the discussion over the Nether tunnels I'm going to put on hold my project of building the main tunnels, as it makes no sense me continuing with the very simple design currently being used if it'll only get torn down in a week or so's time. When the new design does roll out feel free to use any of the materials currently already placed on the now temporary nether tunnels I built

The West therefore to my knowledge is the only fully build tunnel so far (apologies to everyone else) so when it comes to changing to the new design I'd suggest people focus on North, South and East first so everyone can be linked in. THEN start work on redoing the West tunnels.

My nether tunnel's complete, barring the railway track, but I'm iffy about that. However I've found that now Blazes are spawning inside my portal room for some reason. I guess the nether fortress through the wall's too close or something. =/

the southern nether tunnel obviously has to be viking styled...... i would be interested in helping with that

There was about 3 double chests full back at my place. I am assuming it got moved over, so if so i'm sure that would be usefull in the building of your Nether Tunnels?

Apparently, snow can stop huge spruce trees from growing, so you need to remove the snow next to the four saplings.... weird.

Just surround your saplings with a few torches until the bug is fixed then I guess. We'll have to see how long until the next patch comes out though (the dismounting bug is a little dangerous...).

Have started work on the Northern arm, to my own design. It's 5x5 (well, actually only 4.5 high as the bottom 0.5 is slabs), using only cobble, stone, stone slab, stonebrick, netherbrick, netherbrick slab, netherbrick fence, and lighting made from a mix of glowstone, burning netherwrack, and torches. Will try to get some screenshots up soon. I'm heading south from around 400 blocks north, so it may be a while before I join up.

Can I ask anyone who visits to shut doors and gates behind them please? It's not just common courtesy, but also stops mobs wandering into people's houses.

thenoobbomb, I encountered a rough tunnel of yours in the Nether. I hope you don't mind -- I've upgraded one section of it, as it was on the agreed-on route of the Great North Trunk Tunnel. It looked like you'd just been mining netherwrack, but just in case it was en route somewhere else, I've ensured that the whole of your route is still navigable. All that's happened is that a short section of it is slightly grander, being part of said Great North Trunk Tunnel.

You're closest neighbours are Doctadeth and Oshunai, by a few hundred blocks. Unless either of them is looking to start up some sort of shalley there it looks like a fair spot to me.

I'd like to make sure before I start to turn it into a project with some friends.

Here's a few shots of the northern tunnel design. It's a little over 100 blocks long now (1/4 of the way to Spawn).

Vera nice. I really need to get my portal set up. Problem is, I don't have a diamond pick yet, or a place for my new Nether portal in the overworld. I got plans, see.
